  • How mad I’ve just ordered a kebab and then opened the forum to see this thread 😂. We use Westmount Kebab in Eltham, highly recommend!
  • I eat far too many of them, must have tried 50+ take aways, this one blows them all out of the water:

  • i have never had a doner Kebab.

My favourite haunt for a donor kebab was near Plumstead Station. I don’t know how many times I fell in there needing a fix of donor with Chilli sauce. I don’t think it did my cholesterol levels any good but it used to make my knees tremble whilst munching on the way home.
Unfortunately or fortunately I now live in Central London and the kebabs are not the same. But I still dream of those kebabs.
I worked near the station in the 80's and the kebab shop near there on Plumstead Bridge was excellent. We had a summer student one year whose London student guide listed it as one of the best in town, think it played a part in his choice of placement

Anyone from Medway, Master Kebab. I’d say it’s the best in Kent. Won enough awards just a shame it doesn’t deliver.
As a veteran of many authentic Turkish cuisine establishments, I always thought the best kebab was to be had North of the Thames. Masters Kebab blow 99% of them away, everything they do is quality even the elephants leg. I have no problem with them not delivering, the guy who runs the place didn't want to over extend and their quality to suffer nor did he want to piss the council off with delivery drivers taking the piss where they park. For the quality its also very reasonably priced
It does make sense with that main road and I agree it’s so good you don’t really mind the hassle of going to collect it.

It’s not my go to but see if I’m late off the train or have been in the pub and need to sort dinner, straight in kebabies in Pickford lane for a large doner

do you eat other kebabs and just not fancy it or not really from kebab shops ?
  • Normally order from Express kebab house plumstead , always have a chicken shish and the Mrs a Doner , starting to get very expensive like most things .
  • I used to use the one in Lewisham opposite the old Ladywell baths, and apparently the police used it when there was a police station nearby so there was never ant trouble. Probably been gone 40 years but anyway, it's an old thread so why not.

Never ate one whilst I when I ate meat. Looked horrible. Now a vegetarian

  • Selins in Sidcup is great for a kebab Sunday-Thursday. Friday and Saturday is like any busy kebab shop and its sloppy greasy. Where as their portion for Shish is great any day with loads of fresh salad and rice.

  • Not a massive kebab fan, but I've had German Donner Kebab couple of times recently, really enjoyed it
  • Is the Britannia Grill still trading on Dartford Road opposite the Ship pub still trading?
And if so is it still just as good as 5-6 years ago
Life took me away from the best kofte kebabs but I may be passing by in the near future and will be making meal plans
  • Really thought ' having a kebab tonight ' meant something entirely different.

    Like a badly packed kebab

Used these for quite a while until the Quality and portion size went out the window and the fact they could never get my order right .
  • When he was with us Carlton Cole was fond of a late night kebab. Or was that a spit roast?

  • Anyone having a Wigan Kebab Saturday , sounds good

Surely more of a winter food

apart from the mushy peas, there’s nothing wrong with a pie in a roll (or barm or cob or whatever )

  • I think you'll agree @cafcdave123. The Scotch pie should a staple at football. Easy to hold, tasty and not too big.
  • Pitta Giros, that's all

best pies / pasties I’ve ever had at football are at Exeter. Going to places like that is one of the benefits of being a lower league team.

looking forward to pie and peas on Saturday.

Certainly is. Easily the best kebab shop in the area by some distance. Haven’t given into the Deliveroo / Just Eat mobs either, don’t need to, always busy.

Definitely, i always have them in the freezer and do occasionally pop them in a roll

  • I don't think I've ever had a decent kebab. It's always one of those that after a fair few pints that I think is a good idea then I spend the next two days regretting it for I can't get rid of the taste, smell and the stomach issues it causes.
  • I’ve never regretted a lamb kofte, but patience is not a virtue most of the time you’re stopping for a bab.

Regretted plenty of doners, but they do taste great.

My conspiracy is that 90% of Brits claim they don’t like it to their friends because of its extreme fat content, in reality, it’s delicious.
  • On a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being inappropriate and 10 being sex pest, what do we think of people who order kebabs but ask for the pitta bread separate so it doesn’t get any of the meat juice on it, 11 for me.

Agree, they’re lovely. I rarely have kebabs and always have chicken but can’t resist asking them to add a bit of doner meat as well.
