Disappointed. Its always good to win & to keep an unbeaten run going. My main concern is that by the sounds of it we didn't threaten much in front of goal.

just hope its a blip & we are better on Saturday.

Losing thanks to an 87th Minute goal, against last year's play off finalists, I dont think its to bad

I listened to the Derby County coverage, and their blokes were not disparaging at all, they were well respectful, and even worried that we would beat them.
I agree we still need some players, and that we are a work in progress, but there have been many more miserable defeats than that one and we will learn from it. Quite a few plusses like another quality 90 minutes for Joe Gomez, and what sounds like a much improved Pope performance.
We dust ourselves down and move on.

I wasn't depressed last season as expectations hadn't been built up.

That's 2 poor performances in a row, though only one seemed to really matter as we snuck a result out of the other one.

Brentford - Poor - I really don't get why people thought that was a good point?
Colchester - V.Good
Wigan - Good
Derby - Strong upfront, poor at the back.
Huddersfield - V.Poor, but Lucky

Didn't go in as favourites, and agree we don't have the depth for a cup run at the moment. Have to say though, am a bit worried we wont fulfil the early promise of this season. Need a winger, and I'm not convinced George is up to it, despite his decent half last week

Scenario 1 - our form in the first four games was a flash in the pan, we flattered to deceive, no reinforcements will arrive, we face another mediocre season at best.

Scenario 2 - our goal is to challenge for the play offs at least, we have a much improved squad and a talented young manager, we gave some squad players a game tonight in a tournament which little more than a mild distraction. We will be back to full strength at Brighton and pass them off the park in a superb away victory. 2 or 3 quality additions to the squad will join within the week.

My money's on scenario 2.

Possession and style are different.

We can be organised, let teams play in front of us and then play fast passing football, be attractive and effective when we do get it.

Tonight wasn't our strongest side and we played just one striker.

We played a different team/formation against Derby at home, scored 3 and still had less possession.

Think you are being over critical.

Listening to the game, it did not sound at all like we played as badly as Saturday or badly in general.

We got beaten 1-0 by a late goal from a team 10 days ago most fans would have predicted us laying down for on both occasions.

Never been strong in the League Cup, never going to win the competition so prefer to be out now rather than wasting our legs in some match where we could be battered by a Premier League side

(Yes we could do a Milton Keynes Dons and beat the big team but see above we NEVER do well in the League Cup)

Can bang on about all the chances that Derby had yet if they're gonna be that wasteful it'll hopefully continue on into the League and of all the stats being thrown about only two matter.

Best bit about tonight... Allows the doom merchants (the we told you so's from Welling and Ebbsfleet) to come out of hiding for a few days

I've said never, 50% decent games is a good average to me.
My team in Belgium has one good match in 6 or 7 games, I could get used to the idea of 50%, but then again Cercle is no top team...
