David Whyte - RIP

edited September 2014 in General Charlton
Someone on the Facebook Group is saying he died today. Real shock if true.

Can't find anything online, so if it turns out not to be true admin please delete this.

*Edit. Person on FB is saying he knows a friend of the family. Seems legit.

43. Way too young.

  • If true, it's awful, far too young.
  • Prob some duckhead like the Martin Pringle rumour
  • Let`s wait for some confirmation but if true, bloody hell! What a sad loss at such a young age. Always remember his class and quality for what he did for us. Favourite moment was when he ripped Leicester`s defence a new one at Upton Park to put us 2.0 up. Quality goal from a player who had it all!
  • David had many hard times after leaving Charlton. God bless him where ever he is.
  • I think this thread should be closed until something confirmed.

    Agreed

Obviously very saddened to hear this if true. Will wait until confirmed until I pass on my condolences. Just a side note, I thought we signed him for the 94/95 season, after our days of sharing with West Ham, or did we have him on loan earlier on?

On loan in '92 I believe.

    I see, thanks.
  • Why are people so keen to start these RIP threads?
FFS, at least be 100% sure.
Would it mean that much to you if someone else posted it tomorrow?

  • I am 52 years old. Can I ask Admin to book my RIP thread for 2064?
  • Prob some duckhead like the Martin Pringle rumour

He'd have to be quackers to make a rumour up like that though.
  • I repeat again, I think it would be respectful to close this thread.
  • Whilst i very much doubt this would be made up, on the 1% chance it is incorrect, lets wait until some form of confirmation.
  • Given there has been a couple of people confirming and one day on no denial, reluctantly re-opening this.

A very talented striker who I always felt could have achieved more. Very sad
  • Very sad if true. As AFKA has already said, a very talented player and one of my very first Valley favourites as a kid.
  • I can't find anything on the cafc Facebook page or on twitter. Gutted if true. As a kid he was my first CAFC hero. Heard he was suffering with depression amongst other things for the past few years and went off the rails so don't want to imagine what could have happened
  • He was my first Charlton hero I remember him scoring a great goal against Watford at home in 1994 in my second ever game

Scored twice at my first game at the valley.

  • "Possible RIP"? People really need to think about the way they word things on here.

    He was brilliant that day

    David White White White
  • If you think he looked good for us, imagine how he looked against kent league defenders whilst playing for Greenwich borough!
Was very surreal having him come down on numerous occasions to watch my side on a Sunday morning after I'd watched him for us on the Saturday.
Was obvious back then he had problems but was always approachable, polite and had time to talk.
    RIP
  • Is it true or is it speculation
  • Apparently unmanageable but a real talent. Remember him hitting the bar from 35yards against Millwall.
  • The first player I really took notice of in a Charlton shirt, I must have been about 9. Absolutely gutted if true.

Someone who knows his family put it in a Facebook group yesterday afternoon. Someone else later in the evening said they were also a family friend, and that without wanting to go into the details, that his life support had been switched off in the afternoon.

I don't think there is anyone who can 'officially confirm' these things, but it appears to have been accepted as credible by the wife of the Charlton Secretary who administrates that group.
  • Very sad. A wonderful talent and a life ended far too young.
