What a bizarre end to the game that was. Any umpires on CL know what should have happened? Surely that was a dead ball and so Anderson couldn't be run out?
Anyway, Australia win by 111 runs & Taylor ends on 98 n/o.
For those that haven't seen it - Taylor is given out LBW but he reviews it and that decision is overturned. However he is then given run out for what happened after he was given out LBW.

It was Anderson that was given run out, Taylor ended on 98 not out.

Thanks Callum.
The Umpires may well be right according to the current Laws of the game but that needs changing. As does the fact that the batsman doesn't get the run when he successfully appeals an LBW decision for hitting the ball.
A batsman is given out lbw. The umpire collects the ball after review is called. Decision overturned. Could the batsmen technically run until fielding side get ball back from umpire, accumulating multiple runs?
Thanks for the updates guys! Shocking to hear we bowled in the wrong areas.. It was obvious before the game that full and straight was the way to bowl and force them to go for the longer boundaries straight on... If England have no one capable of working that out then I suggest they watch the bbc as Simon Hughes always manages to get it!
Drop Morgan, Taylor as skipper and replace Morgan with Bopara. For my part, I'd drop Ali and Anderson and bring in Hales and Jordan. Still a team lacking in 'what it takes' though
England have a good chance of beating NZ. Conditions should suit us and NZ have played teams not suited to the conditions in warm up. I still think NZ or SA will win overall though
If that wasn't a dead ball then they should change the rule book.
Taylor is the only one of the England team that can stand up tall(ish).
Finn did well also but the rest of the team especially morgan should be ashamed
Haven't seen the performance, but aren't Finn's figures a bit misleading? I mean, he got three of his wickets with the last three balls after the damage was done, surely?

It it's possible to get a "bad" hattrick then Finn's was probably as bad as it gets and going for 71 off 10 isn't great.
Morgan openly admitted afterwards that it was a definite ploy to ball short but it didn't and hasn't worked in the past so time to ditch that idea.

Yep, worst economy out of the full time bowlers. I was surprised to see he was given the opportunity to bowl at the death.
"Following Australia's 111-run win over England in the Group A ICC Cricket World Cup clash at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Saturday night, the Playing Control Team (PCT) met and reviewed the final ball of the game which resulted in James Anderson being given run out.
Article 3.6a of Appendix 6 of the Decision Review System Playing Conditions states that the ball should have been deemed dead when the batsman (James Taylor) was given out LBW. No further runs or dismissals were possible.
The PCT spoke to the England team management and acknowledges that the game ended incorrectly and that an error was made."

So there you go. Two of the world's leading umpires together made a basic mistake on the same delivery and that's worrying for ICC. Good on them for coming out and making a statement though.
Looks like India stepped it up where it mattered again. Was expecting them to have a bad World Cup after the way they performed in the tri-series but that big win against Pakistan has set them up for the rest of the tournament.
Zimbabwe look like a danger in that group. Had one of the favourites South Africa at 120-odd/4 after 30 overs or so and posted 270+ themselves. I'm gonna be watching out for them in the coming weeks to see if they can keep up that level.

It means little in this game but if the umpiring is going to be like that in a World Cup tournament then it makes a mockery of the occasion.

Two wrongs don't make a right as they say.

Bailey said that he would have batted first had he won the toss and was delighted that they were inserted.
