Most of us have been embarrassed to be a Charlton supporter for the last three months (at least)
When Riga come in he changed the style of play and after a couple of games the crowd were singing his name. GL is playing basically the same way as BP which has not proved fruitful in the last 2 months, he looks totally out of his depth and his substitutes were the same as CP's bringing on defenders to see out the game and look at stick he got when we gave away goals in added on time. I for one do not think he knows what he is doing.
After the first two substitutions, Charlton scored.They appeared to be strange substitutions. Vetekele may be knackered / injured but did not look happy to be taken off. It did seem strange to replace the Tottenham No.5, Veljkovic who had a good game for Le Point who was generally very poor. However, Le Point did create some chaos in the Rotherham defence. Charlton scored.
The main problem was the appallingly clueless third sub. And the fact that there was no additional striker on the bench. Church or KAG should have been there. This would have provided the outlet which have allowed Charlton to play forward and prevent Rotherham pinning Charlton back. Gomez came on and the whole team looked confused as to where he was playing and the general shape. Along with the sitting back and the confusion created by the 3rd substitution helped to let Rotherham equalise. IMO Luzon definitely helped to mess things up.
I've always been super critical of our support since the latter Prem days, but this time was the strangest feeling because I didn't agree enough to join in, but didn't blame those who did.
Roland's referred to as 'the enemy' yet he's pulled us from the brink and given us a foundation to build on. The new manager is presumably doing the best he can, yet as an apparent 'yes man' I don't feel like getting behind him, he's not had a chance to earn my support.
I didn't have a problem with Roland's approach when it was working, so it's fickle to complain about it now. The best hope is that he will learn and improve. He clearly doesn't intend to spend much more this year in transfers, but the new players looked the most effective when they came on, so I've got hope.
Some of the team gave their all today, some of them gave very little, and some tried hard but weren't good enough. It was poor but I don't think it will get any worse. In amongst this lot should be a hard to beat side with goals from multiple areas. We've seen evidence of it. Luzon needs backbone and nous, if he provides that we'll finish mid table and I'd take that.
I think I agree with vff, if anything Luzon did more harm than good today. I am really struggling to discern what Luzon is bringing to the table, because it certainly isn't new manager bounce.
If RD had appointed Curbs (we/he seemed very keen on the idea) would people be as impatient and willing to aim stick at the coach just two games into his tenure?

I think it is stretching it to say that Curbs was happy to come here under the same ownership. I think he said that he would be happy to talk to them or something like that. It was a pretty neutral and general statement.

its not his 2nd game ever is management, he has a career in management, It dont matter if he has not managed here before, if that was needed why was he hired, BP had a great start to his career here despite having no Championship experience.

Only person being naive Paulie is you, we played ok in spells today and there was definitely effort from players from where i was sitting, unfortunately we fall a bit short in the quality of player department. Its so obvious to all that the ball just does not stick up front and it would not matter who you have as manager it would be the same, so until that is addressaddressed you carry on being naive with the kids who sing these silly songs in the north upper.

I think our fans were right to question the coaches/Rolands idea to keep just one striker on the pitch.
I think this was the hair that broke the camel back for me, i was fuming before kick off. If Igor's carrying an injury even more reason to play a striker alongside him? He didn't want to come off, good i don't want players happy to come off when they are the top scorer at the club.
As someone who did clap Solly and the players who came over at Watford, despite the rubbish i had seen, Luzon nearly got lucky today.

I can't remember any Charlton manager getting pelters in their first home game before. This, to me, is way more significant than what was being sung.
Whatever we think of Chris Powell, in Jose Riga what we had just 8 or 9 months ago was a respected and popular manager getting a set of players who had been messed about for 2 years united and playing with a freedom and confidence we hadn't seen in a while. If it wasn't bad enough Riga was replaced by Peeters on the basis the latter was the best option, the board waited just half a season before ditching him and turning - not to Jose Riga who had proved his ability in this league and was available; not to Alan Curbishley, our most successful manager who was not only available but interested - but to a guy who has even less qualification to be a Championship manager than the guy they just sacked. Then they told the fans they'd been through a comprehensive interview process in record time, only to conclude the guy they were paying to sit on his thumb was the best possible choice, treating us like idiots, then - in a remarkable PR coup - told us we just had to accept whatever they did.
Luzon may not have deserved that particular chant, but I think it had resonance as an expression of where this lot have taken our magnificent and historic club and its support. At some point they might notice the fewer and fewer fans - season ticket holders included - who are bothering to show up at the place they were at the heart of rebuilding. What a sorry state of affairs.

Curbs didn't make it clear he was happy to come here under the same ownership, he said he was available for talks. I don't think anyone can suggest it likely he'd have come away from a chat with Roland and Katrien and still accept the job on their terms!
