So it's oficial. at CAFC, we're going to have another transfer deadline day for all the out of contract players that no one else wants. Thrilling stuff. RD comes across as the sort of multi millionaire who saves money by collecting dog-ends on the street and rolling them into second hand cigarettes. There comes a point where you have to speculate to accumulate, but this guy is just a penny pinching git. He picked a new manager that no one else wanted, the manager appears to have warned we needed two new signings, and whoosh, RD continues on his merry way. I'm not renouncing the Addicks, but I'm buggered if I'm spending another day on here waiting for reject signings that never arrive.
Serious question, is there anyone at the club who's actually experienced in transfer dealings? Utter shambles.
Serious question and this isnt a dig @ you Robin
But is there anyone here that has experienced in transfer dealings to know what happened last night... this aint Football Manager
I don't really care about the ins and outs of why we didn't sign anyone. The fact of the matter is we needed to, we didn't and some of our rivals did.
That tells me that either we were lied to, again, or RD and Katrien simply arnt very good at their job and failed to get potential signings over the line.

Both worrying.
Well I never remember KM or RD saying "We promise that we'll sign two / three players before the close of the window tomorrow"
Instead it was always "we want to try and sign two / three players before the window closes"
Unfortunately as I've said, this isn't Football Manager yet the real world, players may not be available, they may not want to come to London, dont want to join Charlton or are happy where they are... In those situations there is nothing that the owners can do cos its just a factor in life...
Yes we shouldn't have left it till the last minute but this is the problem with the January Transfer Window, a club isn't going to sell a player without knowing that they'll be able to replace them (and yes I agree it was a mistake letting George Tucudean go in that sense but this freebie may well be a Striker still)... the Managers are constantly saying that they hate this transfer window because it can seriously hinder their season

I look at our rivals, Millwall for example, and they've inreased their squad but with poor quality. the kid they got from Spurs was meant to be woeful on his previous loan in L1 and Tonge is crap. Leeds didn't even want him.
There is no denying that we need players in desperately, but as FA says above, this isn't Football Manager. first off the right players need to be available. I see no benefit of bringing in players of the same standard as our U21 players. Fans would be up in arms, LePoint has already been labelled as no better than Muldoon after 15 minutes of game time. Then some deals break down, for whatever reason. I'm not trying to make excuses for Katrien or RD, cos quite frankly I can't be bothered anymore, but it would be nice to know further details of yesterday's attempts.

Agreed as one of those possible Millwall players being Luke Varney who has already flopped at the Valley... then we're going back to the desperate signings that got us relegated from the Championship in the first place.
Like you @ValleyGary would love to know further details of the failed attempts but how much info, we know it was probably a CB and Striker but thats about it, we cant demand to know the club / player because that would (1) be disrespectful to that club (2) could simply be seen as tapping a player up (3) could damage relations between us and that club with future transfers.
How would we like it if Sam Allardyce for example came out and said: We wanted Joe Gomez, we tried to make a deal yet couldn't get something done.
Hell as I mentioned above, we could have gone for players only for the attempts to not even have go to talks between us and the player

The fact is that half decent players will think they'll be turned shit at our place.
Happens every transfer window though, we leave it late then say we tried hard but didn't quite happen. Same old excuse. The first time I believed them, the second I was sceptical, third time in a row shouts incompetence at negotiations to me.
ForeverAddickted says they never promised us players; but a) why let the manager talk about 2 or 3 signings if they are not all but done and b) why did KM tweet along the lines of 'we will make it happen'?

The bloke won't pay the going rate for what he needs (as with Kermorgant) and given the small world that football is word will have got round that the set-up is bonkers. It's because RD is in denial about the facts of life - not the supporters - that he can't sign the players we need.

Why would anyone half decent want to come, given our poor reputation, the revolving door of coaches and our downward trajectory ? How would Luzon (or, indeed, anyone else) credibly sell CAFC to a player and his representatives at present ? There is also a financial disincentive to come, as we are not prepared to compete with other Championship clubs on that front.
Perhaps, following the demise of FFP, Duchatelet has made a decision on CAFC and we're embarking upon a new age of austerity.
He clearly believes that he is right and everyone else is wrong and therein lies the problem. You'd have thought he'd have the odd moment of reflection, as it must be obvious to him and Katrien that it's going down the tubes. No evidence of it so far and yesterday he replaces the Standard coach with Jose.
If he wants to give the Network idea a real go, he should acquire some decent clubs, like the people who own Watford. He's trying to do it all on the cheap.
Serious question, is there anyone at the club who's actually experienced in transfer dealings? Utter shambles.

Top post Rick. Like many on here I feel disappointed and disillusioned not just by the lack of quality players the club is unable to attract but the declining confidence in those owning and running the club
Where has RD or KM promised us these signings ? And to be fair if we get Johnson that will be two signings including Lepoint , not saying I'm happy but I havnt seen any promises ?
We haven't had a number 9 for over a year. It's not a case of they haven't had enough time to look about, talk to potential signings etc. They just haven't bothered trying hard enough.
Plenty of other teams on a similar level have signed players in the mold we are after during that period. We haven't been 'unlucky' unless you count having a narcissistic tight arsed prick for an owner.
For a team that has struggled for goals like we have, swapping 1 shit tall lad for 1 unproven small lad up top is not the sort of business you conduct if you have any clue what you are doing.

Gotta say it's quite funny your moaning that we havnt got a number 9 , so if Watts favourite number was 9 instead of 32 everything would be ok lol ?
Did anybody really believe that KM and RD would deliver 2 or 3 new players. Complete bollox churned out again. Going to get worse before it gets better. For that reason. I'm out

True, but wasn't quite I was getting at it. Obviously none of us know if the club really did try to sign anyone in the window. My point really was that is there anyone actually that club who knows what to do anyway, especially as most to our incomings are free agents / network loanees anyway. I imagine that zero expertise is required to sort those out.
