  • It all proves Top Gear was Clarkson, Hammond and May. Love them or hate them, and i really hated them, they made that show. The early challenges were even a decent watch.

They need to kill it, I can see why they've tried this route though I'm pretty sure it won't work.

Ah I thought this was an offshoot of the cannabis thread... no worries

    Beat me to it.

Andrew Flintoff - quite possibly the least funny human being alive.

He's not supposed to be funny, he's an ex-sportsman, not an excuse that McGuinness can use, nor for that matter humourless oxygen thieves like Macintyre and "Mrs Brown"

At least Chris Evans was proven to be a capable TV host. From 2 minutes or so of the risible Take Me Out McGuinness is crap at that too. Paddy will only not look and sound like a moron on max volume if Peter Kay writes his script, and directs his every move.
P McGuinness must be one of the luckiest saps in TV - to Peter Kay what Orville was to Keith Harris.

    You're a fan then?

I made the mistake of watching some tripe with gordan ramsey last week and gino the italian thief... even that was following the clarkson/hammond/may model.

It's just lazy tv - stick a bunch of celebs together with inflated egos and watch them fail miserably to say anything interesting/entertaining.

The word 'celeb' lost its meaning a long tine ago - there must be about 400,000 celebs doing the rounds on TV. Hard to know what the worst celeb show is?

The last series was actually pretty good, imho. Matt Le Blanc was getting more comfortable as a host and there was a little bit of chemistry building between the three of them, particularly Harris and MLB. There was more to the success of the old series than the trio of hosts because the Grand Tour has not been nearly as good as Top Gear was and, in fact, post Chris Evans, I think Top Gear has been better.

Not sure about this new lineup, but think it'd be fairer to watch a few episodes and then comment on how well it works than just decide not to like it before anyone has even seen it.

It's much easier to rubbish stuff without seeing it - requires less effort.

Quite hard to watch something that hasn't been on yet though I guess.

Yes but it doesn't mean you can't slag it off though - ignorance is bliss.
  • I would have liked to have seen a new direction when the three jumped ship to amazon. Maybe a different format, something different to the laddish humour, which was fine for a while but why not freshen it up. I don’t particularly want to see a car show that feels it has to be a serious car show, surly there must be some decent quality script writers in this country. But I guess the BBC have a cash cow and want to milk every single drop out of it.
  • Yeah but Paddy’s missus eh......

Perhaps they should stop trying to ape the Clarkson era lads show, and go back to just making a programme about cars and motoring. They also need at least one ex womans footballer on it.

Bizarre comment - am I missing something?

Yes, MLB and Harris were working well together, and when they had all 3 together (e.g. in Japan or that SUV test in the final episode) they produced some good stuff

A MLB is leaving, not convinced by this new line up

I thought Matt Le Blanc was really good

  • Me too, liked MLB in the role.
  • I don't get all the love for Major League Baseball on this thread?

  • New series started last night. Didn’t see it myself but it’s getting lots of good reviews on twitter.

    anyone watch? Verdict?
  • What channel is it on ?
My odd son out is in to cars
  • A big improvement on last series  more ladish.

I think you have to get the matey laddish mentality into it and ensure it doesn't feel too false. Flintoff is a good call. It was ok yesterday, it can go either way still for me.
  • They’ve got good chemistry.
Flintoff is quite pleasing on the eye.
Harris is a top geezer as he drives a 2CV.
    Paddy is.............a bit annoying tbh.
    Jury is still out.
  • Watched it tonight, had me in stitches, when they were getting electric shocks while driving.
  • I enjoy the new version, but it is basically a rehash of Clarkson, Hammond and May.
  • I watched it tonight. It was ok but I’ve seen it all before over and over. A bit too contrived like it has been for years. Maybe if they tried to do something different with the line up and the format, tried to be original it might get back to where it was years ago.
  • Only watched the first one - improvement on last series but Flintoff is a bit irritating.
