The programme was fine Both hosts nervous but that's no surprise Few differences from the previous incarnation evolution not revolution If you want stilted and ropey scripts have another look at the first couple of seasons of Clarkson's version Most of the criticism comes from the anti TG brigade and the anti Evans lot (all fuelled by daily fail drivel) Bottom line it was the most watched show on telly that evening and the audience increased during broadcast hardly bad signs are they Proof of the pudding will be how the audience holds up but initial signals are all good After all it's just telly there is always the off switch
Stuart Lee can well be in the same annoying bracket as the likes of Clarkson (kind of the opposite, left-wing equivalent actually) but this sketch on Top Gear genuinely had me rolling.
Top gear was never about the cars only the personalities amongst the presenters may, Hammond and clarkson made the show and made comparing cars more interesting, bbc never got that.
RIP top gear!
I don't understand this at all. James May doesn't have a personality. Clarkson is a nasty piece of work and Hammond was a single-joke buffoon. How is that more interesting?
Because not everyone, necesarily, shares your opinion.
The fools!
In all seriousness, I don't buy that those guys have a kind of unexplained chemistry that nobody else could achieve. There are a bunch of things that make Top Gear watchable, mostly the way it's shot and edited, and the interesting stunts they come up with. Given a bit of time to bed in, I don't see why other presenters can't do the same job, if not better.
There was a sense that Sky needed Gray and Keys in the same way, but that clearly wasn't the case!

I do kind of agree because the old presenters were hate-able, but what they had built up was a dynamic (or 'chemistry') which was - Clarkson is the offensive one, Hammond is the giggling schoolboy sucking up to Clarkson, and May is the butt of the jokes (who occasionally gets one over on them).
Going slightly back on my initial view that it's doomed to fail, but Evans and Le Blanc need to build something like that to either match or go above it, otherwise it'll be the same - but without the depth of 'characters' presenting it, if you get what I mean? At the moment it looks like Evans will be "the shouty one" and Le Blanc will be "the wooden, but relatively likeable one". Not sure that's enough to be a success, but we'll see. That's why I think it needs a change of format to shake it up.
Didn't like the first one of the series. Will watch a few more to see if it improves but I won't be holding my breath.
What really didn't work (and it's already been said by a fair few already) is that they've transported the same format, gags to different presenters. Badly misjudged. I'm not a huge fan of Evans or LeBlanc although I do like Sabine.
Would much rather see Clarkson, Hammond and May. At least they had chemistry and were funny - although to be fair it's a bit marmite - you either love or hate them.

Nothing has changed then, except we now have 2 strangers trying to play the buddy card when the obviously have nothing in common other than they can drive. At least the banter worked before, just seems even more contrived now
Be interesting to see what the three of them come up with for Amazon. More of the same will do me, just an hour of harmless bloke orientated TV is not such a despicable vice is it?
As for Ginge and Joey Tribianni I will give it a few episodes to settle down but agree it was a tad disappointing.

I doubt many people on here are Stuart Lee's target audience !
just a little bit patronising! maybe we cant all on here appreciate his own special blend of wit, sarcasm and smugness, or maybe he just aint that good? if he was genuinly funny maybe they wouldnt have cancelled his tv show, or perhaps that wasnt his target audience either? I havent read that Netflix have offered him millions to move over to them.

And I'm patronising ! It's all about opinions and taste and you don't like him - I get it. I do if that's all right ? I can see how he winds people up but that's part of his act. As for cancelling his show . Everyone's show gets cancelled at some stage and four series is pretty good for someone who isn't funny.
I wasn't impressed. In fact I was so not impressed that I turned over shortly after they started getting rained on in the Reliants. I just didn't find it funny or entertaining. I genuinely hope that they turn it around. Reintroducing motorbikes would be helpful of course ☺.
Thought the bits that Evans wasn't in were alright. It's a bit like it's being fronted by Richard Hammond now though and he was always the most irritating and least funny of the last three. Think the interaction of just Evans and Le Blanc will get tired quickly, needs a third wheel.
The fact is, nobody was going to be impressed. But I don't think the BBC have understood why the previous programme worked. Having said that, I don't think it had long to go anyway. But it was the chemistry and the laddish humour - You need a sensible one, a complete pillock and a man who is still a boy! It is about getting the right feel - If I was putting a new show together, I'd have kept May - nobody can do geeky sensible better than him, bought in Robbie Savage who could tick both the complete pillock and schoolboy boxes, which would give you a place for Matt le Blanc. If they couldn't get May - the sensible one could be any number of women out there! I think understanding the ingredients was essential.
Obviously the same script writers are providing the Knob Evans with the same blah blah blah and woooooh! that is seriously exciting! they provided for the Knob Clarkson.

Chris Evans ruins the show for me though, far too annoying in every segment he's in.
