In fairness Saudi Arabia’s human rights record took a major step backwards yesterday (which is a remarkable feat given where it was) when they executed 81 men in a day. But howay the lads, fishy/dishy…..all’s right at the toon
All beheaded evidently. How the fuck can things like this be happening in 2022.
It’s insane, and how can the regime responsible for that act own an English football team?

Thought I heard the commentator say yesterday that they'd only last 2 weeks as it stands. If that is the case, does that not mean they've been breaking FFP rules all this time?
Had the pleasure of dropping some fans off at Stamford bridge yesterday and seeing plenty of glum faces around the stadium pre kick off. Was having a right old giggle to myself. 10 minutes later i was dropping more off so l got to see it all again. Muuuahahahahaha

£££££
About £1.5 billion to the UK in arms deals from Saudi Arabia probably explains that! And that was just in a quarter a couple of years ago! God knows what the true figures are...
How is that not a penalty to Newcastle. Defender had hold of his shirt?
Was explained to me today that because the ref did not see it as his view was blocked, it can’t be deemed as an error, he just didn’t see it, so end of argument

What a load of bollocks, surely exactly why VAR is there.
Kieran Maguire in his podcast confirmed the wage bill at £ £27m per month. He also explains why FFP has no relevance to this
Thanks for pointing me in that direction. If I understood him correctly we won't know if Chelsea can afford that until pay day comes. And then it's a race to sell the club to someone who can afford all that.
I am convinced they will be okay. That the sale will go through and the funds held in escrow until it's all resolved. But it can't possibly go through in time for the next two pay days so that means a lot of players not getting payed. I hope it gets really complicated and messy and even the government can't help them out of it.

depends how much they are making in merchandise/advertising and match day sales. Could be a massive destruction of FFP - the biggest test it's ever had. The fact that Chelsea games are still being televised and advertised across... has to bring any sanctions into question surely? They can't even sell match programmes...
I'm not sure the criticism Chelsea and Newcastle fans get is wholly warranted. I do however exclude the tiny minority of their fan base who chuck up banners, flags etc.
In my experience their fan bases are like any other clubs would be in the same situation and can be put in 3 groups.
Group 1 - The majority of fans who might not be comfortable with the ownership but recognise there is nothing they can do about it and have to resign themselves to the fact they have no say in who owns their club. They either have to like it or lump it.
Group 2 - The small minority of idiots who will throw up banners and flags trying to provoke controversy. Every fan base has their share of idiots.
Group 3 - An even smaller minority who have decided morally they can't get on board with the ownership and have walked away. Fair play to them for that.
At the end of the day the vast majority of fans of any club would be in group 1, and I know that is where I would be likely to sit even if morally I'd love to say I'd put myself in group 3. Charlton is such a big part of my life and I'm not sure I could just switch off from it even if I didn't like the ownership.
How many fan bases can say they would have categorically rejected the investment of either of the above two parties if it had come the way of their club? I don't think any would, and let's be honest fans don't get a say anyway so their views are almost irrelevant (That's not how it should be, but its how it is).
Also, if you place yourself in group 2, you are an idiot.
One of the best Panoramas in years. Make sure you watch it. It is now absolutely crystal clear exactly how such a young person could have become so unfeasibly rich before anyone even knew his name in Britain.

A Programme for the Chelsea v Newcastle game was available at the game yesterday but the print run was limited to 2,000 only.
Was there actually on there we didn't already know though? Or was it more a case of confirming some of the rumours / possible truths that have been doing the rounds?
The political journalists have known about Abramovich for years, but have seen it as a football story so haven't written about it much. It's taken a war for the sports journalists to get interested.

It did a great job in explaining how the Sibneft deal was the big deal thst suddenly made him unimaginably rich. I think very few people could have stated that clearly before watching the broadcast, including me.
The key Russian witnesses on camera was pretty amazing too. I can’t imagine the planning that went into getting that in the can (and getting it out of Russia)

When the owners support beheadings is it surprising that we read of players kicking cats and hitting women? Rotten from top to bottom. Nik Cohn's book says as much..

I don't think that's true at all. Which political journalists do you refer to? It took Catherine Belton years of research to finally get her book out in 2020, 17 years after he took Chelsea. Which political journalists picked up on this book? Which of them stood by her when RA and the other oligarchs came for her with their puffed up British lawyers (and failed)?
I can answer that last question for you. Luke Harding, Nick Cohen, Carole Cadwallada. The rest of them didn't have the bottle to do the research necessary to write lawyer-proof stories about him, and/or thought the Great British Public didn't care because "Roman" was making the FAPL even more glamorous. Or worst of all, they saw how entwined the Russian money was becoming in the Tory Party, and that's the way the political wind had started to blow. And on that last point, if you think I'm just blowing hot air, take a good long look at John Whittingdale, starting with his Wikipedia . Two spells at DCMS, the ministry responsible for journalism. Anti -BBC (and n.b. I have personal experience of that in the aftermath of the Olympic Stadium documentary). One of the biggest pro-Russia MPs in parliament, and clearly highly susceptible to the, ahem, tools of soft Russian power.

Makes Thomas’s 8 million loss a season on us look a bargain!

Roman Abramovich: New evidence highlights corrupt deals
Roman Abramovich's Dirty Money is on BBC One, Monday 14 March, at 20:00 GMT and on BBCiPlayer afterwardshttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-60736185
But all of a sudden nobody's afraid of him and his lawyers any more...bring it on!
