Can someone enlighten to me as to why they call us the Clowns? Couldn't think of anything wittier?
Because its the best they could do Ross. Remember this is a club who have 'forced' a rivalry with Brighton, just so they can have a day at the seaside with their carers. All football clubs have an identity, which they (mostly) should be proud off, but The Nigels just dont have an identity, unless being 'grey' is an identity. Even though they are a league above us, I actually feel sorry for them, I really do.
We should wave a few brighton flags around in the away end..
How is that abuse?
Because we are Charlton Athletic, if you can't see why people wouldn't want to wave another clubs colours and sing their name, there is something wrong with you.
A Nigel at work just spent 10 mins telling me they don't care about us and that EVERYONE knows that them and brighton are rivals and that why EVERYONE knows it as the A23 rivalry?
the fucking A23 rivalry??? I have honestly never heard of it before.
I hate to burst the CAFC bubble, But when Guy decides to play the same team as in the last round, Average age 21, are you all going to give our head coach pelters ? Because he feels the league games before and after, are more important. Just saying.
Agree - League much more important however realistically promotion is a very long shot and taking a free pop at the Stripey muppets is a chance for a bit of local bragging rights. We have nothing to lose and playing younger players in the kind of atmosphere likely to be generated is formative stuff. I would very much like the points at Rovers and a few important players rested at Sainsbury's. Even taking the game into ET with fired up youngsters would be a success in my eyes and guarantee a laugh at their expense. I hope Pardew includes a number of their 1st team squad but he is a cynical character and it wouldn't surprise me if he rested a number of theirs seeing as they have Chelski, MC and Tittenham before us and may well feel that Watford and WBA are must wins after three crap results. I think that their "fans" may well be disappointed with his approach to playing us as his arrogance is likely to mean he considers us a distraction from his path to England greatness. It does however present us with an outside chance of victory.........and that would be very funny indeed.
The Pardew I remember likes an excuse. He has two choices really. Balls out picking his first team to try and ensure a win with maximum embarrassment factor if that fails, or pick fringe players so he has an excuse ready. Which do YOU reckon he will opt for? This is not a bloke who likes to accept blame.

It used to be known as the M23 rivalry, But has been downgraded to the A23 rivalvy.
Used to work down the road from the White Horse, handy when we were playing over there, Saturday morning OT then a beer in the railway club then onto the game.
Just did a bit of research, purely for ticket purposes.
Palace V Newcastle last season round 3 league cup, had a crowd of just over 13k, if this is the case again then we should get loads more tickets than the initial allocation.
If we don't and the crowd is much bigger, it proves these morons spouting "we're not rivals" wrong as it did with Millwall away the last 3 season.
Soapy - you wish you were us and you know it. Premiership success, vocal support, local pride, oh, why is this not happening to you? Maybe because you are a bunch of pitiful outcasts.
No-one has EVER wanted to be anything like your tragic football club. Use the Twitter search tool to see what other clubs think of your support. Villa fans the other day were saying it was shite and massively overrated - exactly what it is. The last time we came to your place we couldn't hear a thing all game - and we lost!
You also need to stop clinging on to this false notion that Millwall don't care about us. Look at their two highest attendances at their dog breath ground. Us and er, us. I don't like Millwall fans as a whole and having to live/work with many due to the proximity between grounds, football is a frequently discussed topic. Millwall and Charlton fans don't agree on much, but they do on one thing - that Crystal Palace is the most embarrassing football club in the country. Bar absolutely none.
The original point you made, about other clubs wanting to be like you, is absolutely laughable haha. League status aside, Crystal Palace are an utter travesty of an outfit.
@soapboxsam If guy goes with that youthful side, I'll be happy enough as I agree league is the priority...
It should end up Palace Kids vs Charlton Kids.
I think it will. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see some loaded benches on both sides. Ist teamers after 60 mins up front.
I think Pardew will see the Cup as a chance of silverware and put out his best team possible. Think we will do the same. Big difference between playing the likes of Kennedy in front of 2,000 odd away at Peterborough and in front of 15,000 plus at bitter rivals where both sets of fans want to win and where youngsters will get slaughtered by some of our own fans if they make a mistake that costs us a goal/chance of scoring a goal/the game.
@matt_himself It has been said before, but let me reiterate. I have lived in various parts of South London in my 26 years on this planet. Not once have I encountered a single palace supporter, not one!
That says more than any post on the internet, any tweet, or any banner or sticker ever will do.
The notion of you lot are South-east London and proud is tedious and cringe worthy. That notion is offensive to me as Charlton fan, a fan of a club who have contributed massively to the local community, as well as bought an FA Cup back to it, unlike you lot...

Think these morons struggle with the concept of basic geography - in particular, what the word "east" means. If indeed that is something they spout.
would love to get down for this one, especially as Virgin East coast have some terrific deals a t m .. BUT .. as a non season ticket holder I will almost certainly not qualify for a seat .. AND .. London hotel prices are just ridiculous

That's gotta be B.S to a degree.
I live in Surrey and I have met Palace, Man U, City, Chelsea, Tottenham, Burnley, Brentford, Bradford, Yeovil, Brighton, Liverpool and Millwall fans.... even a couple of others that are Charlton all within say 1/2 a mile of me.

It's certainly not bullshit.
Also, If you live in Surrey then Of course you've come across a palace fan or two. Probably whilst parking your ranger rover in the Waitrose carpark

the fucking A23 rivalry??? I have honestly never heard of it before.
Afraid to say 'it' is not winding you up.
Their rivalry stems back to the 70's when they played each other on a very regular basis.
Chrystal Palace hate Brighton so much that they have "The Albion" as one of their home fans boozers all decked out in Barcelona colours at Norwood Junction. Amusing little south London club that they are.

I'm aware of the rivalry but NEVER heard anyone call it the A23 rivalry but he was adamant that it's a well known by that name.
the rivalry itself started after Brighton pipped CP to gold in the world cock sucking championships in the early 70's, the palace ultras, or "rent boys" as they are widely known, can often be heard taunting their rivals with chants of "we love willy more than you" and "we love the glory hole"

Yes the A23 rivalry, very nasty business, not as big as the M62 rivalry that Hull and Everton share being at opposite ends of that motorway. Also as the M62 has more lanes and service stations it is an exceptionally big road-based rivalry – hate each other.
Are Crawley allowed to join the A23 rivalry now they’re a league club or is that the A23/A264 rivalry?
These threads really do separate the men from the boys.
I've waited ages to have a crack at the Nigel's any team is beatable on the day it only takes one goal. We have got a decent team in Luzon we trust. We win this game and he will be a hero in my eyes and any player that scores the winner for us will be a living legend.
Why is this one abuse? Sorry I don't understand my definition of abuse is a normal one and not a weird one.

Seems the younger generation are easily swayed by shiny crap and bright colours.

It will be a spotty Nigel on a wind up
quite humorous
