As sickening as yesterday's events were I think we can all agree they were not in the least bit surprising.
I think you have a big problem when after an incident like this the first thought in a lot of people's minds is along the lines of "we shouldn't retaliate or tar all Muslims", rather than a determination to stop the people and causes of the incident. The first thought should go without saying. The 2nd one should be all that people care about atm.
Some people pf course will wrongly get tarred unfortunately, it's the way of the world, just like Irish people were during the IRA campaign and just like as an England football fan, I always am too.
What sums it up for me is that if you had two demonstrations planned in a months time - one against Islamic extremism and one against the far right in this Country I know which one would be more popular with joe blogs - why is that?? The far right are, on the whole, at this current time, a symptom of Islamic extremism and mass immigration etc (bar the odd loons) yet more would protest against them than against an ideology that is causing bloodshed on our streets at an alarming rate.
Some people appear to have only just seen that video of Luton for the first time yet it's old - footage like that should be headline news, so that everyone of all creeds can see what this extremist element (however small) are doing in ours and others Countries, but it's almost blacked-out - why??
I attended a demonstration in London in 2006 (I think) against Islamic extremism as I believed it was a huge problem and would only get worse all the time we were allowing these clerics to preach on our streets. It was attended by men, women and children and was nothing to do with EDL /BNP etc and was completely peaceful and ended with a fantastic speech from an ex major in the Army.
During it we were treated like filth by the police and looked at like filth by the general public.
I knew back then it was over and only going to get worse as the British public on the whole and authorities just don't get it imo.
And I shouldn't need to say this but such is the current climate you feel you have too, I will have 3 Muslims attending my up-coming wedding so have no problem whatsoever with the peaceful, good intentioned ones, but as someone says above there is a significant minority in many communities in this Country alone who detest everything we stand for and they have been allowed to exist and grow and it's now too late in my mind to reverse the problem and I fear we have a long violent path ahead of us unfortunately.
A more articulate person could probably have explained all that a lot better than I have which is frustrating.
The apologists on this site make me sick. People who would clearly consider themselves to be liberal and progressive have a massive blind spot when it comes to conservative Islam for fear of being seen as racist. It's time the zealoted defenders of intolerance asked themselves some hard questions.
Sky are saying that one of the attackers came into Europe through Greece last month. If true I can't see the open border policy surviving and Merkel's position will come under enormous pressure.
I would imagine, like the rest of us, she is greatly saddened about what is going on and feeling for the people killed and their friends and families.
If you are trying to link the large influx of migrants into Europe with people who are terrorists and murderers then that is plain wrong. We can discuss and argue and disagree about the rights and wrongs of migration policy. And we can argue about whether those people are being forced to move due to poverty and danger or for economic reasons. But to equate them with murderous thugs is stupid.
I wasn't wrong was I? It's already happening, more to come I'm sure
Be nice if there was a public extensive debate as to why the ideology behind religious extremism is so wrong. Hopefully expose all religion for the horseshit it really is in the eyes of some of the believers. It's a very complex issue but addressing at least the fundamental ideology has to happen

I feel for the victims and their families. Do they need all of those BBC reporters sent to Paris, appear outside the hospitals etc. and posing inane qestions. Increase in the licence fee anyone!

Exactly what I said
And what I warned when the tunnel was shut earlier this year, it's so easy to go from coast to coast without being stopped, anyone organised and prepared can cause a huge influx of people willing to harm the inhabitants of the country's they enter, do not think that we have just been lucky, the English channel is the best protection we have, letting these bstds sneak in in lorries and then welcome them is the biggest mistake we will make

What would be the definition of a fundamentalist, extremist Christian then?
Surely taking Christianity to its extremes would be to behave as Jesus taught. A person who killed in the name of Christianity would not be a fundamentalist but a fraud.

PARIS—At least one of the attackers outside France’s national soccer stadium had a ticket to the game and attempted to enter the 80,000-person venue, according to a Stade de France security guard who was on duty and French police.
The guard—who asked to be identified only by his first name, Zouheir—said the attacker was discovered wearing an explosives vest when he was frisked at the entrance to the stadium about 15 minutes into the game. France was playing an exhibition against Germany inside.
While attempting to back away from security, Zouheir said, the attacker detonated the vest. Zouheir, who was stationed by the players’ tunnel, said he was briefed on the sequence by the security frisking team at the gate.
A police officer confirmed the sequence, adding that police suspect the attacker aimed to detonate his vest inside the stadium in order to provoke a deadly stampede.
Around three minutes later, a second person also blew himself up outside the stadium. A third suicide attacker detonated explosives at a nearby McDonald’s, police said. One civilian died in the attacks, police said.
The account sheds light on why the suicide attacks on Stade de France failed to cause the carnage that occurred at the Bataclan concert hall and restaurants across Paris. More than 120 people died in the string of attacks Friday.
"The main reason normal Muslims don't join these protests is because they have a lot of far right people in them that they fear will attack them for being Muslims. The reason they don't March alone is because of fear of attack same reason"
I am truely shocked by this video. My friend told me that things were bad in Luton but I never imagined they were this bad. That poor girl had so much courage to stand her ground when the big guy was rudely wagging his finger in her face. How anyone can agree with the sentiments of the Muslim leader at the end astounds me. If he doesn't want to live according to our laws, then go. How can the lefties back this stuff?
The scumbags on this 'protest' should have been teargassed and then arrested .. the ringleaders deported .. I have had enough of these dirty, ungrateful foreigners abusing my country .. it's kid gloves off time .. Extreme, UK hating muslims must have it made plain to them .. either behave or you'll be thrown out of the country, born here or not .. the British people have had enough of you ... keep your medieval religion to yourselves if you must .. but behave in a civilised manner .. anyone plotting murder, terrorism or mayhem should be banged up for a long time and then deported along with their family .. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
Forget the extremists (of which should be referred to as murderers and nothing else) and let's weap for those affected by these attacks. RIP those dead. The murderers want this to be about them, and to scaremonger, but we shouldn't be scared; we should come together. Some of the pictures of French flags around London and other Cities around the world are heartwarming, there's a hell of a lot more good-willed people in this world than bad ones.
It makes you think just how low these bstds will go,
Lock down is required across all Of Europe in the short term , inconvenience over executions all day long, evey entry point stop and check every vehicle every person until a solution is found, search every lorry and detain and deport every single person in the camps around calais

Well that's exactly my point... I think (my point might be ill worded) I'm sure if you asked ten different fundamentalist Christians what fundamental Christianity was you'd get a different answer. Some would kill homosexuals, others would be really, really nice to people! Now get them to explain why they are right and others wrong...
Fundamental and extreme are different things of course
Cowardly act. Let's see if they are brave enough to meet our soldiers on the battlefield which is inevitable now. They won't be of course they will melt away into the towns and villages and hide behind the skirts of the women. Bastards.
It's really wonderful seeing the sea of French flags all over Facebook, I have friends and relatives from all over the world from all different religions and culture too, and they have all changed their profile picture. Amazing respect.

What - exactly - would you be checking for? How would you know when you'd found it? And when would you know it was right to stop?
You stop look and Check for weapons and known persons on watch lists, or people with no Id or permission to be there, disruption and work rate increase for anyone wishing to cause such atrocities,
The last time I was in France you couldn't buy an ak407 in the supermarket, we have gun crime but not normally machine guns,

Santa this really isn't helpful.
An apologist would be someone who defends or excuses what these murderers did.
I've read through this thread and posted on it once before and I haven't read anything that in any way tried to defend or excuse these barbarous attacks. If you believe otherwise then I think you owe to the rest of us to 'out' these apologists by finding and posting what they said.
If you can't do that then - because this is a very emotive and serious subject - I suggest you think more carefully and responsibly before you post.

Genuinely can see this being the end of Merkel in Germany if this is found to be true in the coming days. She is already out of favour due to the Syrian immigrant issue in her own country, this will not help her at all.

I'm sorry I offended your sensibilities. I will of course limit all future comments to the narrow range of views you find acceptable.
Can I also just say, having watched some of the news... And I know this is a bit of a nasty thing to say, but has anyone else felt like some of the broadcasters are almost reporting this like it is the latest, most exciting bit of celebrity gossip? I also heard a person calling in who was in the local residence and heard it all going on who called BBC News last night, a Brit who had relocated to Paris, and she genuinely was laughing about "how she felt unsafe" and seemed like a kid at Christmas over the whole situation... It was so creepy...
