Meeting scheduled to take place 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Any news/update on the meeting, did it take place today?
Part of Crossbars was sectioned off for a Target 20k meeting before the game today.
  • What did the actual attendance look like today ?

Decent crowd. Much busier than recent games. Wolves filled 2 thirds of Js. Big queues before the game but loads of kids. Saturday will be a fairer idea!

Well done to Steve Clarke for telling KM he would not be a part of this, after agreeing a model for the make up of the committee and then 48 hours later something else being announced instead.

Another great example of the clowns not having a clue

Surely now the Trust will realise their approach is wrong.
  • I know it has been launched, but has it sunk yet?
  • According to Twitter one of the committee is already thinking of quitting after the first meeting
  • Surely someone must know what was discussed or are all attendees sworn to secrecy?
  • Apparently only 3 half season tix sold so far. Sadly I was one of them.
  • The three things Katrien said would happen after the November meeting were more meetings, Target 20,000, and filmed meetings immediately put out.
I look forward to seeing the film of the Target 20,000 meeting that took place last Saturday at the Valley at 1pm.

  • For those interested, the background to this is that on the day before the Ipswich game I was at The Valley to deliver some books to the shop. While I was there I met Mick Everett and he asked me if I would be willing to participate in a Target 20k committee, along with some of the other people who had previously been involved with Target 40k/10k, and who had already indicated at the recent meeting that they would e.g. former VIP directors Steve Clarke and Craig Norris.

On that basis, because I have a lot of respect for Mick, and because I think there is an onus on me to be constructive as well as critical, I said that in principle I would. However, when the initiative was announced it was clear that the goalposts had been moved and it had been changed into a representative focus group, rather than a mechanism to draw on the experience outside the club.

As well as this being stated in the website story, I received two emails from the club saying that people who had previously agreed to be involved would now need to "apply" under the new structure, which I was not willing to do.

The club then sent me an email late on Friday telling me my "application" had been successful and announced that I would represent over 35s, which was news to me.

TBH I'm relaxed about it either way. It's a 130-mile round trip for me to get to The Valley and I'm not inclined to make it to play charades. Mick's involvement and that of others with experience is pretty fundamental to ensuring that it isn't, which is no disrespect to other supporters who have offered their time. Nobody is arguing that it should be confined to the old guard.

In my view this is about retention not recruitment at present - people distracted by the title miss the point. There is a great deal the club could very easily do better than it is at no additional cost to itself. The fundamental issue remains the football, which won't be impacted by this group at all, but that doesn't mean there is nothing that can be done which is positive.

As an aside, it's notable that despite the attempt to make it representative, which I agree with Henry is a total misunderstanding of what it should be, the club has named only one woman in its list of members.

    As above.
    Thank you.
Please Rick, reading this, you must/might know who these people are. Who are the @target20k ?
Please ask how you become a member.
    Please ask how many members.
Please ask where the minutes of meetings are.
    Please.......Oh bugger.....sod it.
    @target20k don't give a f**k about Charlton Athletic.

This is what i find strange, if you are truly a charlton fan then you should want what is best for the club.

Perhaps Katrien got confused and they are Tottenham fans?
  • It's now a guarded secret who is even on the committee so doubt you will get anything out going forward that hasn't been heavily managed. Suspect it is now effectively a couple of Club close allies supported by a couple of non-inputters to keep the numbers up.

The reaction to that Alison mentioning a few meaningless things showed you how it is.
  • How's it doing ?
  • How's it doing ?

    It's going really really well.

  • I like the "launched" part of the thread title.

It's been heading into space since December

Time for a relaunch perhaps? You know the sort of thing, we've learnt from past mistakes and a new era starts now.

Well, some people seem to fall for that one every time .....
