A genius, his musical and creative contribution to the world of popular music is up there with Lennon, the Stones and Elvis. We all new at was coming following the news of his illness, nevertheless today the world is a poorer place due to his passing, genuinely saddened. RIP Jonesy.
Arguably the most famous person to have come from Bromley. (H.G. Wells isn't that famous!). I'm in shock, there were recent rumours of a Labyrinth sequel. At the height of his fame in the 80s he picked up his nephew from Langley Boys, the mother's were so shocked that they froze.
As Nick Robinson has just said, a giant, and a South London boy to boot.
Isn't there a quite new album out?
RIP.
He released Blackstar last week to coincide with his 69th birthday. Just watching a recording of Countdown (from Friday) and somewhat prophetically Nick spends the first five minutes talking about him.
My death waits like an old roué so confident I'll go his way whistle to him and the passing time... My death waits like a bible truth at the funeral of my youth weep loud for that - and the passing time... My death waits like a witch at night as surely as our love is bright let's not think about the passing time
But whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do... angel or devil, I don't care for in front of that door... there is you.
My death waits like a beggar blind who sees the world through an unlit mind throw him a dime for the passing time... My death waits there between your thighs your cool fingers will close my eyes lets think of that and the passing time My death waits to allow my friends a few good times before it ends so let's drink to that and the passing time
But what ever lies behind the door, there is nothing much to do angel or devil I don't care for in front of that door... there is you
My death waits there among the leaves in magicians mysterious sleeves rabbits and dogs and the passing time my death waits there among the flowers where the blackest shadow, blackest shadow cowers let's pick lilacs for the passing time
My death waits there, in a double bed sails of oblivion at my head so pull up the sheets against the passing time
But whatever lies behind the door there is nothing much to do angel or devil...i dont care for in front of that door there is...
Really sad news. I genuinely refrain from posting in these RIP threads, but even though David Bowie was definitely part of my mums generation (she's a huge fan) I thought I'd post in here, as I always got the impression he was a pretty decent bloke.
I thought his little skit in Extras with Ricky Gervais was absolutely brilliant, and I've just gone on Spotify to see what his new album was like... I'm utterly stunned my how much he'd done during his career.
