I am absolutely bobbins at 'modern' console games.......far too many button combinations for my little brain to process.
Over time I think my favourites have been:
Track and Field (arcade) Donkey Kong (arcade) Outrun (arcade) Double Dragon (arcade) Pitfall (Atari VCS) Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari VCS) Commando (C64) Pit Stop 2 (C64) Paranoid (C64) Sensible Soccer (Amiga) Speedball 2 (Amiga) F/A 81 - Interceptor (Amiga) Tomb Raider (PS1)
After this........things started to get too complicated for me.......I now only rarely play games....and would generally be the GTA games (which I am shite at).......or any variation of Golf Games which I can play comfortably without having to look at the controller or poking my tongue out.
Showing my age but arcade games are Carnival, Galaxians, Lunar Rescue and Out Run. Computer games are Sensible Soccer, Blood (a Doom type game), Mario Kart and Halo.
Fallout New Vegas Rome Total War Left 4 Dead 2 Runescape has to get a shout on this list for longevity
No other game has tapped into quite what rome total war did imo. Horribly vanilla when playing non rome factions but it felt so deep when playing one of the romans at the time. Only games i get similar vibes is from paradox games like crusader kings games.

Why on earth did you go with Fable 3?! I haven't played it since it originally came out but remember it being universally trashed and none of my friends liking it either

Weirdly it was the only fable game I played and I just enjoyed it as a pick it up, play for an hour, forget about for months, pick it up, play for an hour type of game. (Also I got it for free as the guy I bought my XBOX 360 from gave it to me)

Fair enough! Should check out Fable 1 if possible, graphics obviously going to be a bit naff now but I'm sure the storyline and gameplay would still be enjoyable
Yeah as ypu can probably tell by my post, I have no issues going back to play old games. FF12 looks trash on PS2 but is enjoyable. I think the older TV's made older games look better. The higher pixel count on new tvs seem to make things look worse. It'll be a job for my 2008 Samsung TV!
Grand theft auto sam Andreas blew my mind when it came out A game I haven't seen mentioned it shadow or mordor, the sequel shadow of war is even better. Stunningly good games The last of us was epic I loved fight night round 2, once you worked out the punching mechanism it was really enjoyable Call of duty is massive fun but suited to 10 year old kids with ADHD Double dragon 2 was my jam at gillingham ice bowl in the early nineties Tetris and wario on the gameboy
The Dizzy series Kenny Dalglish Soccer Manager Formula One Kane
Dizzy, theres a blast from the past. I bought Tresure Island Dizzy from WH Smiths in Eltham for my Atari ST. One of the few ST games I completed. I'm sure games used to be a lot harder back then.
Galaxian Phoenix Frogger International Track and Field Toobin’ David Robinson’s Supreme Court State of Emergency Tekken (any of) Medal of Honor Call of Duty Dead Island

Sensible World of Soccer Frontier Elite 2 Super Mario 64 Metal Gear Solid Goldeneye Shenmue Alien Isolation
...and probably a ton more.
Just can’t get to the end of Alien Isolation. Keep getting stuck, forgetting where I was, starting again a year later and repeating myself. Hell of a game though!

Grand theft autos

Mass effect 2
Surviving Mars (need a lot of time on your hands for that one)

Hitman(s)
Half Life - absolutely loved it
Star wars Knights of the old Republic - loved the twist and a better story than most of the new films
Skyrim
Chuckie egg, remember that well, from that era.
Elite on the old pcs
Ico on the PS2 and all the PES from that time
You had to pass instructor tests for flying, sky diving and jet packs. Such an addictive game with a great sound track!
Gave up once Williams Defender came out, way too many buttons.
Lunar Jetman
HERZOG ZWEI
Honourable mention to god of war.
Do enjoy the assassin's creed games but don't ever go back to them
