  • Been away and haven't kept track other than the scores.

What do we make of that? Seems very low for an oval pitch? Poor shots/good bowling/lively pitch?

Good to get a wicket before close though.

Also, from what I can see they only bowled 80 overs? There really is no excuse. We are just as bad as any team but people are paying to watch 90 overs. If weather doesn't intervene then they should be able to watch that. Not good enough and something needs to be done.

Need to close at 7 not 6.30.
The only worry with that is they slow down even more knowing they have the extra hour!

Try and get a radical and dangerous idea like that through and ICC committee lol.

Very good day's play. Moeen hitting a six for his ton, was obviously the highlight.

The wicket wasn't dissimilar to Edgbaston in some ways. It's a bit faster & has more bounce, but probably similar levels of movement.

Just like Edgbaston I felt 350 would be a par score for these teams, so we fell just short, although at 110-5, it could have been a lot worse.

I thought Pakistan looked worse and less enthusiastic in the field than in the previous 3 games. So I wouldn't be altogether surprised if they fold again. As previously a lot depends on Azhar Ali, Younis & Misbah.

    England to win for me.
  • Is it true that if we win this series, we will hold all the test trophies we compete for? That can't have happened often. Would we be no. 1 test ranked as well? I imagine so after avenging defeat by both Pakistan and Sri Lanka

It is true that we would hold all nine trophies. We've never done it before, but Australia and South Africa both have.

Cheers. Surprised the west Indies didn't achieve it in the 80s... Guessing there weren't 9 trophies then!
  • Wow. the win against Zimbabwe dates back 13 years.
  • Excellent days cricket where the pendulum swung from one side to the other. Great innings by Mo and great wicket at the end. The first hour tomorrow will be very interesting.
Only downside was the ridiculously slow over rate. Just 24 overs in 2 hours before lunch, 26 after. Something serious must be done as we are being robbed of entertainment. Further time extensions aren't the answer. We need teams to speed up.
Maybe there needs to be some run penalty or something.

Or maybe the umpires should do their job properly and get the players to get a move on ?
  • There's nothing that will get them to get a move on. Simply extend the play until they have bowled all their overs. It gets a bit tricky when a team , like today, is bowled out just before end of play - but my view is that its the team who bowled first should have to bat in conditions that are less than favourable.
However, what sport do you have where you get circa 8 hours entertainment ?
Its made to be a bigger thing than it is.

Think we're struggling for 8 hours since Roland took over, let alone in a day.

The speed of play was lethargic from the start. We could see from the point that the Hales decision was reviewed for an eternity, that they were behind the over rate. This was less than 30 mins in, I think.
The umpires can definitely speed up play if they chose to.
  • Anyone go today?

The funny thing is that some people were calling Murali a "traitor" for coaching Australia. The way they've played, I think he's a secret agent!
  • Go on mo! 434-8
  • 144-5. First visit to the oval for me since ashes last year. Changed a bit in terms of food and drink kiosks. Shame we bought an M&S picnic that'll we'll prob have to eat elsewhere as we are unlikely to last too long. Loads of singing Pakistan fans enjoying themselves. Happy Sunday!

    Oh you of little faith!
  • England have a big problem in deciding what to do with Hales, Ballance and Vince. Do they persevere or drop one or two? or all three.

Would expect , with the emergence of Woakes, that they will likely persevere with Hales, but give Ballance and Vince a break, and then promote Bairstow to 4, bring back Buttler to keep and bat 6 and Stokes will bat at 5, so, a first choice team of...

    Cook
    Hales
    Root
    Bairstow
    Stokes
    Buttler
    Ali
    Woakes
    Broad
    Wood/Finn
    Jimmy.

Might also start to see the emergence of Sam Curran next year too, though maybe they might leave him til after an Ashes series.

    Wokes run out. Terrible. 209-7.

    Time for another sausage roll.
  • Bairstow out. Missed it getting sausage roll out of bag. Grr.
  • Tms or sky coverage? Can see @Airman Brown in crowd and think he's sky sports from his earpiece. Doppelgänger if it's not him. Tms all the way here for us.
  • 248-8 btw. Scorchio. Only takes 10 balls to get a team out.......
  • 253 all out. Anyone even interested?

What kind of sausage roll was it?
  • Haha. Chicken pork ham hock and mustard. F**king Lush.
