If you have to look them up to find out who they are, or find out what and where they have been and doing for the last 5 years they are not the manager we are looking for.

I hope that this rumour was started by Collins to get his name out there.

Why the long delay? The longer it goes on the more I think it is Parky and we are waiting on the play offs. If not, I would expect an announcement today or tomorrow.

The longer this goes on, it's quite clear they glanced at a league table and chose Wilder. That backfired because of their incompetence and there was no plan B. Now they're trying to do it on the cheap. Again.

A "friend of a friend" of someone claims that we are interviewing Jim Magilton, with Chris O'Loughlin as his number two. He's currently in charge of the NI under-21s.

At least he has some relevant experience, but I can't say I'd be overwhelmed if he got the job. But then again I don't think any appointment we would realistically make under the present circumstances would be overwhelming.

I've never understood hiring a manager and then forcing assistants and coaching staff on him. If they've been successful (not that Magilton has) then it's partly due to his team of staff as well. Look what happened when Richard Murray tried to force staff onto Dowie and Pardew.

Just plain weird. Oh but O'Loughlin is St Truden's manager, so it makes sense now.
Jim M in for two months, sack him and give Chris O the top job.....and the depressingly shit cycle begins yet again. Roll on League Two.

This is more likely their thinking.

Apparently Wilder would have had the title of manager and not head coach.

Yet he turned down the job because he wouldn't get full managerial duties. Non story/pointless piece of info. The regime trying to sell people to the job but when push comes to shove they won't do it.
Apparently not - turned it down because we were a decoy used to get Sheff Utd to remove their finger from their anus!

You say that as if it's a bad thing having your finger in your anus.
  • I wonder if Dave Jones would be interested, done ok in the past, but another manager who hasn't done anything for a couple of years.

There should be plenty more on the list before they even consider him.

John Collins, Assistant manager for Celtic, excellent knowledge of the British lower leagues (not), managed in Belgium briefly and potentially unlikely to want the same guarantees as a real life decent manager. Sounds perfect for Duchatelet.

To be fair, the SPL is a British lower league.

  • All seems a bit quiet.

Has anyone at the club considered putting a free small ad in the local rag just to see if it drums up some interest?

WANTED Compliant, malleable and egocentric loser, happy to risk public humiliation for low pay. Extensive experience of Belgium and laundry bins preferred.

    Just a suggestion.

Didn't realise it was possible for a club to be even slower than us in appointing a manager.

'But there remains a whole heap of jobs to do for the under-fire Belgian regime, who have still not appointed a head of recruitment.'

Maybe if people enjoyed working for Katrien Meire and didn't quit without a job to go to, this wouldn't be a problem.
  • Serious question; What is John Sitton doing these days? Anyone know?

According to Wiki he is a black cab driver .
"I 'ad this football club CEO bird in the back of my cab the other day, god she tacked some crap, I couldn't get a word in edgeways!"
Sounds like the opening to an episode of fake taxi to me

Seems like they want an up and coming British manager from league 2 to save on cost.

Would have thought they'd be keen to make a statement and get a proven championship manager in, showing fans their intentions for a successful season ahead ending in promotion.
  • Can I be the first to say underwhelmed.
  • Why would Edinburgh come to us? He has more chance of promotion next year with Gills.
  • I wonder if Dave Jones would be interested, done ok in the past, but another manager who hasn't done anything for a couple of years.

Haribos will be in high demand.

Collins won't be able to handle to the off field shenanigans.

You are gonna get a despot manager, like Magilton, taking a decent contract and then a month in say "I never knew the full situation here" yadda yadda yadda, all in the knowledge he'll get a healthy payout...

Please god no. Used to play for Blackburn, so let's home he goes there. Besides I'm sure it should have said Benny Hill.
  • Scoham said:
    Is he related to Benny?

Hope so. Hell need a sense of humour.

@ricky_otto laughing out loud with coffee in my mouth = time to clean my desk!
  • Keith hill....no way!!

My old office security guard spent most of his time playing football manager. I used to make him show me how charlton were doing, league 2 with him in charge!
  • Does anyone else get the impression that the manager's job requirements have gone from -

Belgian/Part of the Network + Cheap

    to

    British + Cheap

I get the feeling that whether they're the right man or not for Charlton Athletic is less relevant than what's on their passport as they seem to have become obsessed with nationality. The kind of simplistic and unsubtle approach I'd expect from an inexperienced and panicking person promoted above their abilities, backed into a corner, like Meire.

Cheap is vital. Remember that some of our network managers have been taking home £50k....
  • John Collins, Keith Hil and Jim Magilton?!?!?

    Kill me now.

    Cheapest options. The Roland way.

Keith Hill is a League One Manager with Rochdale...

Took them into the Division for the first time in forever before leaving for Barnsley in the Championship, he was out of his depth up there and Rochdale suffered without him, went back to Rochdale, re-steadied the ship and almost got them into the League One Play-Offs this year but fell short (Same points as Sheffield Utd I think)
  • Roland, Katrien and Richard don't know how to identify interview and appoint a suitable manager. They have absolutely no skill or ability in this area.
    They are an agents dream.
  • Some very disappointing candidates if I'm honest, it seems like they are just rounding up all the cheap options and then will pick who ever will take orders from RD.

  • I wonder if Dave Jones would be interested, done ok in the past, but another manager who hasn't done anything for a couple of years.

Well we are likely to be paying peanuts!

There are very few quotes. Rich Cawley stated he was hearing nothing at all.

Newspaper speculation is just throwing out anyone British with lower league experience. If they pepper the target enough they might strike gold.

Remember these were the same newspapers that "exclusively revealed" we would be getting Nobby Vinegar last week and I am pretty sure he wasn't on their radar on this occasion.

Give it a few hours and we'll be linked with Paul Tisdale of Exeter

    Kill me now.

John Sitton is not such a bad shout now if the 3 above are the quality of candidates they are looking at.

The supporters relations team are going through a list of manager's on Football Manager and passing them on.

Someone send them a few e mail complaining about the net behind the goal. That should slow them down for a bit.
