That the (likely) appointment of Russell Slade seems to be bringing hope to so many is a sign of how low we have sunk. That said, Daisy surely has to land this one or she will be more of a laughing stock than she is already. If that is possible.
Why the f*** has squirrel face not left after the bedsheet incident?
Wherever Slade is going, it's got to be a done deal. Can't see him leaving a paid job without having the new job negotiated. Russell if you are reading this forum to get a sense of the Cafc fan base. I can only say this. I hope you are signing on as a manager, with the final decision on signings, full control of team selection, a decent player transfer and salary budget, and a water tight contract with everything in writing.
Come on johnny73 you know that's not going to happen. Like Wilder he will use Liar Liar's inflated salary offer to negotiate a REAL job somewhere else and we will be getting Nobby Vinegar.
Some of you guys have to get real we have crap owners a number of crap players, we are in L1 which ain't easy.
Like many of you I will revolt against this owner until they go but I won't moan about a new manager/coach until he gets a few games under his belt, say after Welling , so come on should Slade be appointed then give him a chance.
oh yes Jessie, don't forget that Lennie Lawrence, one of our best managers, was never a professional footballer.

I did use the magic word "hope". Hope like promotion is a word the Cafc comms team are banned from using.
Wouldn't surprise me if Slade is an old fashioned type who has taken the owners word and signed on with a handshake. He will be in for a surprise when the video feed from Roland is wheeled in at half time.
When Slade went to Cardiff from Orient, i thought...'Why?' - 'What has he done to merit that gig?' - it just seemed a bit odd that a team who had just gone down from Prem would employ a nobody/noone like Slade - and now it seems that we think he's the messiah - just doesnt make any sense whatsoever. Either Slade has a bloody good agent or I'm not quite getting something.
Weren't Orient absolutely flying one year under Slade? Top of the league and Lisbie and Mooney scoring for fun? Then they dropped outside the playoffs in May?
Knew nothing about Slade so I had a look on Wiki. It seems he's never played professional football?.......... Not saying it's a requirement of being a successful manager but... I'm not impressed. He looks like a League One manager at the best.
Good thing we're in league one then right?
I'm not exactly enamoured with Slade as potential manager , but did Mourinho ever play football to any standard?
Our best manager we ever had Lennie Lawrence did not play .........

I havnt seen any post on here suggesting that Slade is the messiah. In fact most people are underwhelmed if not completely anti.
I'm not sure if you've noticed but over the last two years under the madman Duchatelet the entire club has been in a tailspin of wonderous proportions. We are in a mother of all nose dives.
What Slade will provide is someone for the first time under Rolly who knows how to pull on the joystick and slow the decent. That for me is a start.
CARD will continue its work and help drive old shitface from our club. That must be the priority but until that happy day we have to at least slow our decline. I believe that Slade can at a minimum do that.
The next manager might or might not be a good or bad choice, the crucial factor is that he (or she) will have agreed to work for this regime under the strictures that they set out. We are well versed in the incompetent, duplicitous, lying, contemptuous, sneering, dismissive, disdainful way this regime has found to present us with failure and decay, and those are the qualities a new appointment will be buying into. It is going to take some convincing that any new appointment is any good, because even if we win the division by a street (which we won't anyway) we will still only be barely back where we started. Any new appointment has to be able to deliver in spades and not expect any thanks for doing so.

Who finished 8th in the Championship last season and 11th the year before.
We won't have success on the pitch under this ownership. A manager such as Slade should at least stop us getting relegated again and hopefully RD will sell the club when he realises he continues to waste more of his money on failure.
I'm not sure how or why Slade is seen as a bad appointment when the other names linked are the likes of Adkins, Davies etc who have done even less in the last few years.
What has Slade done in the last few years ??!!
Dave Hill teaches music for schools in Staffordshire. Along with Don Powell he has kept the Slade name alive. Their next scheduled gigs are in Suffolk in October. Don Powell wrote his autobiography, Look Wot I Dun - My Life in Slade. Jim Lea studied psychotherapy and has released several records both in his own name and as The Dummies with his brother and his wife. Noddy Holder has done some acting including Coronation Street, Mrs Browns boys, The Grimleys (excellent), and a very funny advert for Nobby's Nuts which used Skweeze Me Pleeze Me for the soundtrack. He mainly works as a professional voice over artist and has done adverts for Ty-Phoo, ASDA and others as well as for some lifts in Wallsall - and here. He earns close to £1m a year in royalties for the merry christmas song, has been awarded an MBE and still amuses me whenever I think of the kipper tie joke.

I am more interested in Welling United at the moment. With Mark Goldberg in charge and Damien Matthew as Coach I feel that they are going to have a good Season. They have bought seven new players. As for Charlton I feel that Russell Slade is the sort of Manager to steady the ship. I have invested in a season ticket for the Wings, but will still be more interested in how Charlton are doing.

Look at his track record with Grimsby, Yeovil and Orient. He gets play-off finishes.

The team will be coming out to "C'mon feel the noise".

Duchatelet has a history of offloading decent better players to force his manager to play the rubbish players, he wants to force the manager to play. Wilder called Duchatelet on the 'promises' and didn't get assurances. Slade should be aware of this.
Unless Slade, Meire & Duchatelet spell out exactly how they are going to do things differently, I am extremely skeptical that Duchatlet & Meire have changed the flawed & amateurish way of operating. The recruitment process has not reassured me that Duchatelet has changed his ways, in the way that he intends to operate. I'll believe that Duchatelet has changed his spots when I see the evidence of that. Meire still being CEO is a continuing insult to the Charlton supporter base.

I'd remortgage my property to be a fly on the wall when squirrel face interviews a manager.
Wilder must have closed the door and shook his head in disbelief.

In that case it might be more appropriate to get Simon & Garfunkell in as I have it on good authority that they'll be running out to The Sound of Silence next season.

Yep. Suffered with the cup run and never really recovered. He must have something about him to get those two scoring, especially Mooney.
Let's be frank. There is no evidence to suggest that Slade would DEFINITELY fare better than Adkins, Evans, Cotterill, Davies, Wilder et al. There is no way of telling for certain.
Sometimes managers do well at some clubs and poorly at others for no apparent reason.
However, the FACT is that Slade has had relative success in League 1 and The Championship, working with a limited budget and has never achieved relative success through spending money.
Slade must have an excellent knowledge of League 1 players and what is required to succeed in League 1.
I would suggest that he wasn't a great success at Cardiff, but he did ok.
He did well at Orient and had them CHALLENGING AT THE TOP OF LEAGUE, with a squad that imo overperformed. Yes they fell away as everyone expected.
He also did well at Yeovil and Grimsby, although I would admit that he wasn't outstanding.
Adkins wasn't a success at Sheff U. Evans I believe has been found guilty of "dodgy" practices. Cotterill got Bristol C relegated. Davies has alleged drink issues and appears somewhat unstable. Yes Wilder did brilliantly in LEAGUE 2 with Northampton, but he chose Sheff U in any case.
All the above have had successes as well, I'm not denying that.
Slade does have 10 years experience of managing in league 1, so it unquestionable that he does have the relevant experience we need.
If it's to be Slade it MUST be a better option than a Belgian nobody.
Let's get behind him & pray that he is given the autonomy and support that he needs to be a success.
Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision, that was planted in my brain Still remains, within the sound of silence

Davies has been unemployed.
Adkins finished mid table in League One with Sheff Utd, one of the biggest clubs in the division.
Who would you prefer?
Ignoring Curbs and Powell there's no one on this list that I'd be confident that they'd take us straight back up.

I dont want Slade or Davies or Adkins - however, i would have liked someone like Wilder.
