  • Weren't Orient absolutely flying one year under Slade? Top of the league and Lisbie and Mooney scoring for fun? Then they dropped outside the playoffs in May?

Yep. Suffered with the cup run and never really recovered. He must have something about him to get those two scoring, especially Mooney.
  • And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more .....
  • For our "Official manager rumours thread!" Book Club I'm thinking our first book should be "Mister," by Rory Smith

Knew nothing about Slade so I had a look on Wiki. It seems he's never played professional football?.......... Not saying it's a requirement of being a successful manager but... I'm not impressed. He looks like a League One manager at the best.

Who finished 8th in the Championship last season and 11th the year before.

We won't have success on the pitch under this ownership. A manager such as Slade should at least stop us getting relegated again and hopefully RD will sell the club when he realises he continues to waste more of his money on failure.

I'm not sure how or why Slade is seen as a bad appointment when the other names linked are the likes of Adkins, Davies etc who have done even less in the last few years.
What has Slade done in the last few years ??!!
Took Orient within 15 mins off championship football... Where are they now?

The next manager might or might not be a good or bad choice, the crucial factor is that he (or she) will have agreed to work for this regime under the strictures that they set out.
We are well versed in the incompetent, duplicitous, lying, contemptuous, sneering, dismissive, disdainful way this regime has found to present us with failure and decay, and those are the qualities a new appointment will be buying into.
It is going to take some convincing that any new appointment is any good, because even if we win the division by a street (which we won't anyway) we will still only be barely back where we started.
Any new appointment has to be able to deliver in spades and not expect any thanks for doing so.

I agree entirely, Seth. After the appalling capitulation at Bolton, relegation mathematically done, Johnny Jackson said: "It's all our fault. We - the players - have failed."

He is right. When Harriott is free at the keeper and skies it again to Row Z, that has nothing whatsoever to do with our ghastly owners.

Our players miss passes, can't trap the ball; they dribble to nowhere, are muscled away by opponents, stand dumbstruck at a throw-in. Then, in the second half - attacking the Covered End - they rush about like desperate wretches, over hit crosses, imagine men unknown, all nervy and panicky, implored by 15,000 fans. And still they can't score!

Two years ago Millwall searched the non-league and found Lee Gregory, from Halifax. He scored 27 goals last season; that's what strikers are for.

What, in heaven's name, is Vetokele doing?
  • Jbg is not on more then £16k a week will he be sold? .
  • Classic Viewfinder only let down by lack of reference to corners.
  • Let's be frank. There is no evidence to suggest that Slade would DEFINITELY fare better than Adkins, Evans, Cotterill, Davies, Wilder et al. There is no way of telling for certain.

Sometimes managers do well at some clubs and poorly at others for no apparent reason.

However, the FACT is that Slade has had relative success in League 1 and The Championship, working with a limited budget and has never achieved relative success through spending money.

Slade must have an excellent knowledge of League 1 players and what is required to succeed in League 1.

I would suggest that he wasn't a great success at Cardiff, but he did ok.

He did well at Orient and had them CHALLENGING AT THE TOP OF LEAGUE, with a squad that imo overperformed. Yes they fell away as everyone expected.

He also did well at Yeovil and Grimsby, although I would admit that he wasn't outstanding.

Adkins wasn't a success at Sheff U. Evans I believe has been found guilty of "dodgy" practices. Cotterill got Bristol C relegated. Davies has alleged drink issues and appears somewhat unstable. Yes Wilder did brilliantly in LEAGUE 2 with Northampton, but he chose Sheff U in any case.

All the above have had successes as well, I'm not denying that.

Slade does have 10 years experience of managing in league 1, so it unquestionable that he does have the relevant experience we need.

If it's to be Slade it MUST be a better option than a Belgian nobody.

Let's get behind him & pray that he is given the autonomy and support that he needs to be a success.

Slade is still 1/10 with Skybet.

Despite my earlier comments, I 100% agree that he would be better than any unknown Belgian RD can appoint.

I know Mourinho, Wenger, Houllier, Lennie Lawrence and a few other successful managers have rarely or never played at professional level. It's just that I can't see Slade becoming one of them. He's 55, not 35 or 45. I'm sorry.

But of course I hope I'll be proved wrong and he'll do well for us.

Jackson is culpable for our relegation

I answer that by asking why we let in so many goals from corners throughout the season, and also conceded with weary regularity just before half times? These kind of problems are not down to individual players, but the structures at the club.
  • Jbg is not on more then £16k a week will he be sold? .

My understanding is he's on £20k

  • I'm really disappointed with slade now when I actually think about it, just realised he has never won nothing and with charltons trophy filled history (1 FA cup) he doesn't fit the profile of who we need, very concerning and can now see why some fans on here are unhappy if he is appointed.

Classic Viewfinder only let down by lack of reference to corners.

Oh, come on, Henry: you know we are all trying to forget him. The whole stadium would fall silent in expectation. He would puff out his pigeon-chest for a corner - and send the most delicious curving arc - out of play to the top of the net. Our players would all troop back to midfield, apparently forgiving, marking up...

    Was he:

    A - Lenny Glover
    B - Danny Green
    C - Paddy Powell

Well I think he is but it's just not announced yet.

  • Don't believe for one second JBG was on 25k a week
