I know I'm in a minority regarding fox.
Sorry I just don't rate him, but I would much rather keep THE.
In 2 or 3 years time I believe he will be top quality whereas fox will still be fox3 -

I'm not so sure you are in a minority but Fox did do ok on Saturday. He's a bit like marmite however the debates over him have been done to death on here and his detractors have tended to keep their heads down of late probably accepting that this is his level.blackpool72 said:I know I'm in a minority regarding fox.

Noticing a theme. Someone is shipped out before we can bring anyone in. Suspect Katie and Russell have been arguing over a midfieder and this is the upshot.
THD is ok. Nothing more than that. If its decent money (we know it will be undisclosed) then I'm not too bothered.
Issue is, even if it opens the door for a midfielder to come in, then we still need some cover at left back. Lennon really isn't the answer there.2 -
Fox is the better defender, but THD is better going forward.
Fox worst performance last season was away at Ipswich - cross after cross went either too long or hit the first defender. Even v Northampton at home the other week Fox repeatedly came inside & hardly ever takes on the opposite full back (just remember the no. of goals Wiggins sent up doing this)
THD is good cover for Fox & was one of our best players in the pre-season games I saw.
saying that I'd rather keep both & turn THD into a left winger.3 -
I presume if the THD sale is intended to fund a midfielder coming in Slade's logic has been along the lines that Fox is probably more solid defensively whilst the likes of Holmes can provide the width and attacking drive on the left making THD's more attacking style less important (though it would be pretty handy of course.)
Goes without saying that we'd need cover at LB again as no matter how you rate Fox, his injury/suspension would leave us without an experienced practiced LB at all!1 -
Heard that Huddersfield were in for Fox but then, after reading CL, decided that THD was better.29

doubt they will get another in, reckon Lennon/Edwards/Solly will be the coverthenewbie said:I presume if the THD sale is intended to fund a midfielder coming in Slade's logic has been along the lines that Fox is probably more solid defensively whilst the likes of Holmes can provide the width and attacking drive on the left making THD's more attacking style less important (though it would be pretty handy of course.)

On the few times I saw Holmes-Dennis play I likened him to Konchesky.
Bad move selling him but I cannot blame anybody leaving the club, good luck to the fella.8 -
Ps The Belgians have not got a clue!3

Why would we sell unless it is for a stupid amount of money?
In fact, it must be a shed load as we are no longer in the business of selling on potential stars for crap money.
Must be the 3mil we need for Dack0 -
Have to agree with Clem, smacks of one out one in; bottom line rules in Latriens world of enjoying the match day experience

This is at least consistent with their stated intentions. Bring players on to sell them. Doesn't add up to also having promotion ambitions but what the hell ...0

They look identical. Never see em in the same room togetherElfsborgAddick said:On the few times I saw Holmes-Dennis play I likened him to Konchesky.

We are blessed with good left backs in the club.
I have seen Archie Edwards a few times and, in my view, has the potential to be the best left back at the club.5 -
It would be great if the club had a coherent strategy and ambition, that our excellent young players actually felt that their ambitions could be met at Charlton, rather than being a shop window to get to a move to a better more ambitious club.1

Blackpool 72 never could spell1

But they have, if the young players do well, they will be sold to another club, but the fans will have the benefit of seeing them in their early careervff said:It would be great if the club had a coherent strategy and ambition, that our excellent young players actually felt that their ambitions could be met at Charlton, rather than being a shop window to get to a move to a better more ambitious club.

Of the 17 in the squad on Saturday, 6 were from the academy. That's over 35%.vff said:It would be great if the club had a coherent strategy and ambition, that our excellent young players actually felt that their ambitions could be met at Charlton, rather than being a shop window to get to a move to a better more ambitious club.
How many do you think should be from the academy? And if our club is so rubbish at bringing players through, why has someone from West Ham, (according to them, "the home of football") just left them to sign for us?1 -
Who would you rather we sold, THD or Lookman? Maybe THD has pushed the move through?1

Or maybe our owners are idiots with as all the imagination of a caravan site.East_Stand_Loopy said:Who would you rather we sold, THD or Lookman? Maybe THD has pushed the move through?

When any of them show any promise, how many will stay at Charlton and for how long ? So this player signs from WHU and everything is rosy and we can admire Duchatelet's excellent, strategy.East_Stand_Loopy said:

presume, because not good enough for them, and he feels will get more games in div 1...0 -
It would be great that the club has ambition that the young players want to stay and have their ambitions met. This is the transfer thread and probably best, speculating about whether Charlton are going to ever get a quick, combative or creative midfielderEast_Stand_Loopy said:Who would you rather we sold, THD or Lookman? No sign of Solly or Fox leaving, is there?vff said:

Solly would have been sold long ago if he was fit enough. I like Fox and think that he is a decent left back who has been exposed by poor players in the left midfield position but that is no excuse for offloading THD, who I think it potentially more promising and more attacking. You need both players. Also, How do you know that if a decent (or even less than decent) offer came in for Fox that he wouldn't be sold as well ?East_Stand_Loopy said:
