As a bloke that is nearly 42 years of age and only a real interest in CAFC, although that has waned a fair bit, I know nothing about Chicksen at all. Will wait and see how he performs for us, on the plus side this does feel like a Slade signing, as for Northampton they might have needed to use the wages he would have wanted elsewhere in their team.
Simply because a player is a free agent and has been on trial elsewhere, doesn't mean he's automatically shit. There could be several factors why he didn't sign, not all to do with ability.
I've seen Chicksen quite a few times and he's s much better player than Fox . Exciting going forward and a tough tackler. I would be surprised if he came to us as big things were expected of him.
So good he's a free agent and no one has taken him in before us....???!!!
Diarra didn't have a club all season until we signed him in February/March.
Don't get me wrong, I think Diarra is a great player but I'd estimate he's only been available 60% of the time he's been with us due to injury. This is more than likely the reason other clubs at this level won't touch him. I'm reliably informed he's also very well paid which although fair for someone with his CV, I'd be inclined to think we could achieve better value for money elsewhere.

Northampton might have been offering a pittance, for example, or Chicksen prefers to live in London, or he wants to play for a team that wears red, or he thinks we are the best place to come to try and become first choice, who knows

What if northern clubs have offered him deals but he wants to stay south for family reasons?
He might have been on trial at a league 2 club and turned them down in the hope of s league 1 offer.

I don't think we could. Diarra is vastly experienced and a former national team captain. He can do stuff that players at L1 level can't even dream of and his ability to organise and control a game is incredible. Yes, he gets injured a lot at his age but he'll absolutely dominate the midfield at this level when he does play. If we had more young midfielders they would really benefit from his experience

A year ago I suggested that Ba would really benefit from a playing for a year with Diarra, his fellow countryman and midfielder

Maybe that's because he does a great job getting stuck in when he plays. So therefore picks up some injuries. Name some other WC winners that are beating down the front door at SE7?
Sounds quite a lot like a Curbs signing to me. Unfulfilled potential and player with a point to prove. Not wanting to open the Fox debate but I would think that Morgan could be in need of some serious competition. Could just be what both players need to push on.
I've never really heard of him but from what I've gleaned by reading this thread it sounds to me like some decent business and perhaps the 400k will help get the "tricky" signings done.
Chicksen's poor first-team appearance record over the last three seasons (all clubs) and subsequent release by Brighton suggests he has gone backwards since leaving MKD in 2013.
On that basis he appears to be a cheap option for the bench, not necessarily a bad thing but again, for those misguided people who think we are moving forward as a club, it looks like a step down to save money.

That prediction worked out well!

It's the one from "abroad" that might be more tricky.

Welcome Adam.
I wish we could have just 1 day where a thread isn't full of shit puns... It would be quite a novelty

Too many bored posters hoping for confirmation of a player nobody else wants.
;o)
This transfer window really needs to close!!!!!!
