Really sorry you have goneWho is going to tell us to Keep the Faith!! Respect your decision but slightly disappointed you have gone now without waiting to see what happens this season. You are right it was toxic last season for many reasons. I don't like the regime but the protests went to far. I am hoping that things calm down if we get the results on the pitch

Really ?????? In what way did they go too far

Evening all, thanks for all the positive messages. Huge leap of faith but knew it was the right decision to make after speaking at length in the past few weeks to a few lifers, @3blokes being the one who copped it most! (Cheers Jon).

For the record, I was paid to do the job, but it was never about the money, I got to shout, scream (sorry) our heroes names out and welcome back (until I was told off) former heroes home.

I had the privilege of working with many good people at the Valley, some are still there keeping the old Charlton alive, some have moved on.

The regime won't be there forever, they may "own" the club, but we all know the fans are the owners, guardians of its history and its future. They will be gone, sooner rather than later I hope and a new regime will take its place. I prey that any new owner will look at what's happened, learn lessons and harness the power of the Charlton fans because united we are so much stronger.

As I said at then end of every game, Keep the Faith!

So did Meire tell you off for welcoming back Chris Powell ?
I think that was about Yann...

Really nice to read the positive comments on here about BDL and thoroughly deserved. He is a top top bloke and he hasn't even paid me to say that
I know he agonised over this decision for a considerable time, because he loved the job he did, and he loves the club. Keeping it professional while the protests erupted all around was particularly hard.
He kept it dignified and professional all the way through but that's what he is.
    The regime's loss.
Where will they get the message that they are not wanted here?

they well and truly have the message - its about trying to sell at a price that is agreeable now make no mistake and i remain a firm believer that promotion will be the quickest way, not that i think it will happen - the alternative is going to be very drawn out and painful

I think they would have got it by now if they didn't have the mental issues they seem to have! We can't hope for that anymore! Toxic and crazy - we will struggle next season! I can see us having to form a new Charlton!
  • Top fella is BDL a genuinely nice bloke

Could we get BDL working the mic at a game across the channel at some point this coming season, if you catch my drift? :-)

Dave is a top bloke. When I lived in Lansdowne Lane, Dave's dulcet tones often woke me up on a Saturday morning testing out the sound system. I might've even swore about him.

This must've been a horrible decision. Hard to give up a job you love.

I know I will demand he comes back once these fuckwits leave our club. I might even start a petition!

A recent memory of Daves from 2012... "Champions!"

you may be right but i genuinely think a few on here could do with taking a holiday with no internet access - try to remove the douchatalet virus that has overwhelmed everybody - some of the drama and misery is truly amazing when you look at some of the real tragedies that are happening around the world at the moment

George Sefton is the bloke on the mic at Anfield and he has been there since 1971. 45 years. He's the one with that low tone voice.

I don't know how much more humiliation the regime can take.

Ex players have openly slagged them off, current players slag them off, ex managers/coaches slag them off, Riga at the time, a current head coach, slagged em off.

Lots of people have resigned, of course, including Dave, because of them and the way the club is being run.

Not to even mention what the fans have demonstrated towards them. The media, national papers, publishers, people in the media with no links or affection for the club, have slagged them off.

I'm surprised Obama hasn't stuck his foot in yet.

People that are dead...have probably slagged them off.

The regime is a brick wall with absolutely no class or normal compassionate human like qualities. They don't answer to anybody. They constantly lie.

And they can never be wrong.

I must admit, I generally take some satisfaction when I hear someone's taken a stand and left the regime so as to make a stand.

    I didn't this time.

Dave comes across as a genuinely passionate fan who has Charlton in his heart, and to read that statement in the SLP is absolutely agonising. You can tell it was a difficult decision to make, and in all honesty not one of us could blame him had he not chosen to make a stand.

This is more than a resignation. It's another story of a fan having to severe the tie of the club they love because it's unrecognisable and toxic. It's another fan losing something very dear to them when it should never have deteriorated so severely.

Looking at some of the photos posted I think it's an absolute outrage things have got like this, and I genuinely feel gutted for him. I won't be raising a drink to this resignation.
  • He is a really nice bloke mate i agree it's the first resignation that I feel sad about, because for him it was more than a job

Only just caught up with this and reading Dave's words in the SLP................mixture of anger and sadness that it's come to this but what a dignified statement from Dave -

well done in making your decision and articulating so clearly how and why you came to the decision to reject this poisonous regime at the cost of your own job - respect.

One of my pet hates is comments like that.
Yes, there are far worse situations and incidents happening in the world. We all know that. However, this is a football forum, a Charlton Athletic forum. No-one's comparing the goings on at Charlton to a terrorist attack or a war. We do, though, have the right to moan about what is happening to the football club that this forum is all about.
Well said. If we're not allowed to comment on the woes of Charlton if there is something worse going on somewhere else in the world then we'd never comment at all.

Discussing Charlton on a Charlton is normal, moaning that we're moaning is weird.
