I'm genuinely gutted by this. What awful news to wake up to. One of my real bright spots for the season was knowing that at some point he'd be coming back.
He gave absolutely everything he had for us. He must have played through so much pain last year. For all we talk about wanting players who "fight for the shirt" and "understand the club" and all that nonsense, he did that in his own subtle, classy, understated way.
I remember thinking after the Burnley game how it was likely the last time I'd see him in a Charlton shirt and that it's be quite some time before we saw a player with such class. I stupidly got my hopes up when we signed him up to a one year extension.

Agreed, for all we talk about the Skipper becoming a coach, I was really, really hoping he'd stick around and become a coach for us. That said, I don't know how well he'd gel with Slade's style.
Why didn't the club speak with him before activating his year extension in the summer?
I would imagine that they knew he wanted to leave and we're hoping to get some kind of fee, when it became apparent that wasn't going to happen they got him off the wage bill
What a damn shame. I expected him to leave early summer, as I thought he'd rather return to his family, than be stuck injured with us in L1. When it came this far & he was hopefully getting close to fitness, I assumed he'd see out the season.

Shame to lose Diarra, excellent player and a big loss. Him and Kashi getting fit would have given us easily the best squad in this division. Another Championship quality player down should we get back up this season.

Slade must have known Ceballos, Harriott and Bergdich were going and given how much each played last season they didn't each need replacing. Could do with one more winger though, shame we missed out on Henry.
Great player. Been a pleasure to watch him. Shame he couldn't burn up this league but maybe for the best rather than watch him in decline. Good luck big man.
Proper gutted about this, Diarra was a class above even in the Championship. I really hope this allows us to bring in another central midfielder on a free (poyet maybe) otherwise we still look so light in the middle of the park.

Even at 35, he oozed quality - his composure, vision, touch on the ball and ability to pick a pass was a joy to behold. You could see he had been a player of top pedigree.
Huge influence in the dressing room too. A real leader.
Bottom of Ligue 1, over in Eastern France near Strasbourg, apparently his parents still live in north east Paris, where he was born, so it is closer. Would imagine he'll be a player/coach in the near future
It was unrealistic to think that a world cup finalist who is still a very good player would want to go to places like Fleetwood and Crewe with Charlton Athletic. I'm not in the least bit surprised he wanted to go. Good luck to him

Has Slade expressed annoyance for the way these long standing injuries were not treated at all over the summer? yes.
Could we have had Diarra play for us again if not for the total mismanagement of the club?
