  • I thought magennis looked good if maybe a bit tired at the end.

The guy next to us kept on shouting for holmsey rather than Ricky, but that Ricky still looks very good.

Ajose, still a bit off form, would be great to see him start to stuff them in for fun.

Doc had a very good game.

I should really have done this in the player marks thread but I started reading it and felt quite unwell.

Am feeling a bit better now.
  • We bossed it for 20 minutes but then pissed about for an hour at which point the roof fell in. After that it was the familiar bump and lump with no end result whatsoever.

The football has been so bad for so long at The Valley that I treat it more as a social thing nowadays, but the thought of sitting through more trash like today puts even me off.

    Tripe.
  • The above post is just ridiculous. Big William would not have posted that if we'd hung on for a 1-0 win, but no.

    winning = we're just fab
    losing = we're "tripe".
  • Slade will not lead us out of the mire. He's tactically poor and is basically a plodder.

His post match comment that not killing them off left the door open for them is just pure genius.

22 years as a manager to have that insight.

Time will tell. But a cursory look at his track record as a manager should have been enough to forewarn that we were not getting a young genius with ideas so much a weary journeyman taking pretty much the only job that came his way. Let's hope he's good enough nonetheless to keep us in the top half of the table.
  • Despite defending the Team I DID feel that we were far too deep for their second goal and moments prior I was asking someone in front of me why Magennis was our sole Striker with Novak (also a Striker) as our sole Midfielder... that was the one mistake we made all game... We let Wimbledon back into the match after a great bit of skill from Poleon and then we did collapse but throughout the game there was clear fight from the team, felt that Ulvestad did well (despite being written off against Fleetwood) and got a good assist to set Lookman away for his goal.

The only other mistake was that Slade went Chris Powell on us... By that I mean... Where was the second and potentially third sub?

The moment it went 1-1 we should have at least got Foley on as he has that Defensive attitude about him yet as he's proven he can get forward and cause a threat in the opposition area
  • Didn't go, sounds like I made the right decision. Better get used to this people. No good 'dominating' a side if you can't score. We've got enough forwards for f***s sake. As for Ajose . . whenever I've seen him he's been anonymous.
  • Russell Slade and this team will not make top 6 this year, to many long balls and a midfield that looked clueless , what does crofts actually do? With the exception of Holmes and Lookman the rest look very average for league 1.

The key may be if he has a Plan B. We got used to there only being a Plan A last season (not including Fraeye's remarkable formations) and not sure if Slade has the wherewithal to try something too different.

Not taking your chances is playing badly as well - not unlucky.

No its called finding an in-form Goalkeeper in front of you!!... Or do you think he's just going to wave us through?
Amazing how often we seem to come up against an inform keeper instead of it being we just couldn't take our chances.
As I say with my second comment... Do you think Goalkeepers are just going to wave us through.

The ONLY shot we wasted all match was the one from Ajose (Which I felt was handball from him anyway)... Holmes had a great effort which was creeping into in the bottom left corner in the second half yet Shea got down to make the save... What would you get Holmes to do differently with that shot next time, other than the obvious answer of put it in the net?
  • Very very disappointing. You cannot play well for 60 mins and expect to win.

I thought Wimbledon were a poor but they demonstrated the fight, desire and will to win that we sadly lacked in the second half.

Some positives signs shown again from Lookman, Holmes and Josh but I don't see enough in that team to challenge for the top 6 this season.

You mean 22 years having won nothing, never having been promoted, and having a ~38% win percentage?

Without doubt Wimbledon wasnt our worst result for years...

Away @ Stevenage who had also been promoted from League Two via the Play-Offs the year before was much worse when we lost 1-0 as it was a freak goal yet there was no effort for the whole of the 90mins that day

And special fried dog tastes worse than worm chow mein....its rubbish and no amount of things have been worse improves the situation that we are currently in despite this being yet another 'new era'
No your right but lets stop with all the dramatic: Oh this is the worst result I've ever seen, no fight from the squad bullshit...

There have been much worse results and yes some performances deserve booing from the fans yet today didnt warrant that!!... People need to accept the fact that yes we might have one of the biggest budgets in the Division but this isnt the Premier League... Up there having a big budget sometimes means something but it means sweet FA down here!!... Everyone can beat everyone and that is part and parcel of sport!!
  • Have to add that I was quite impressed with the Wombles Right back , our Ex-Academy player Barry Fuller!
Had a good game and seemed to quick and 'clever' despite surely being in his 30s!
Good assist for the winner too

We can't beat millwall so that's not entirely true.

The Charlton of recent years has taught me the art of clutching at straws.

Fair comment @ForeverAddickted but the fact remains that the position we find ourselves in remains entirely down to an incompentent owner and SMT and not to over dramatic boo boys, I am not alone in showing concern that 'this the worst I have seen" (I recall that being a 4-1 trouncing one Boxing day at Plough Lane?) But how far we will actually be allowed to fall before we all agree that 'patience' is not the answer.
  • Yuk - I've worked out Crofts's role which is to show us that Jacko's legs haven't gone.
  • Totally blame Slade for that, clearly tactile and player changes were required after about an hour.

The man is just as clueless as the previous Belgian lot.

Sad day as a Charlton supporter, just when you think it can't get worse.........

120 mile round trip for that. Very good first half and could've been 3-0 up with some better finishing. Lookman looking great. As others have said - what the hell happened second half!? Looked sluggish and the usual slow start. For me Novak has to start - Ajose has had his chances. And where were the subs!? Only Novak - was waiting for Botaka to freshen up the attack? No Hanlan either - thought he looked a real handful the last home game. Fed up as that was one we should have won. Think Slade got it wrong.

I'm not blaming the boo boys or the owners for defeat today... I agree we didnt take our chances and that changes should have been made.

I just want people to be a bit more patient with the players on the pitch... I know I'll never campaign to rid the game of booing from fans, yet surely its something that should be reserved for the truly awful performances, like MK Dons / Preston / Brentford at home last season or Huddersfield / Hull away... Just cant see how it was justified today

And no that doesnt mean everyone should applaud the players off the pitch and be happy we "tried" today... The players will know they've fucked up and sometimes silence says a lot more than words and for me how a full-time result should be treated is thus.

Win / Good Draw ... Applaud
Poor Draw / Tight Defeat where effort has been shown ... Shocked Silence
    No effort ... Boooooooooooooo ;)

    Nobody said worst result ever.

Nobody said worst performance in years.

So once again, that's the worst RESULT in years.
  • I agree on the silence is more powerful, my Grandad often spoke of the groud turning their backs on masse to Arsenal when they first returned and played at the Valley, they ran out to complete silence...one of my all time I wish I was there moments
  • But its not the worst result in years... Its the worst result this season yet Huddersfield scoring FIVE against us last season was a lot worse.

Christ they only finished a few places ahead of us last season yet somehow managed to put that many past us

Mate, all this 'everyone can beat everyone' is nonsense. Sure there are shocks throughout a football season, but the successful teams manage to consistently beat many of the other teams in the division. Two wins from seven isn't exactly the type of start fans hoped for when it was stated by the club that they expect a minimum of a top six finish. Of course, there are lots of games left to play, but we need to get into a winning habit as quickly as possible, and these are the teams we should be beating in order for us to do that. There are no excuses really.
