he was a very talented and hard footballer and seems to be the in the same mould as a manager .. Villa have a decent squad and he will get the best from them .. I'd like to see him managing England at some time in the future

I'd be really surprised if he took the Norwich job. Granted they still have a chance but it looks for all the world like they will be playing Championship football next year and I'd be shocked if Lampard sees himself managing in the championship again so soon after managing a team like Chelsea.
Perhaps he will back himself to keep them up and fair play to him it will be some achievement if he does. I just don't see him having any plans to be in the championship next year which is a huge possibility for Norwich and even if he left at the end of the season if they do go down you wouldn't think half a season at Norwich with a relegation on your CV would attract many Premier league suitors.

On the other hand, I can't see any other PL jobs coming available soon, so it's this or taking a Championship job

Fair point. I find the Lampard link interesting as I always just wonder whether he almost got the Chelsea job to soon. Of course he was never going to turn it down but you do wonder if he almost reached the pinnacle of his managerial career a little early. Most managers work their entire careers for that one shot at a big club and Lampard got it so early I do wonder whether it will always be in the back of his mind that he will probably never get a better job than the Chelsea one, both with it being a top 4 club but also one he had close links with. Kind of feels like whatever he does in the future he will always be managing at a level below what he had at Chelsea.
I saw today that apparently Dean Smith had interviewed for the Norwich job as well and I think he would surely be the stand out appointment. If you'd said even a month ago that he was being linked with the Norwich job most would have laughed but if he is genuinely interested as is seemingly being portrayed in the media then I think Norwich should snap his hand off.
Dean Smith .. nice bloke and all that but for my money a manager better suited to the Championship than the Prem .. and I reckon the Champ is where he will be managing next season
Gets the last 18 months or so of his Villa deal paid up, then walks into a new job a week later.
I suspect in most 'compensation packages' there are clauses that require repayment of the cash/part of the cash if the recipient gets another job straight away

Isn't it sort of like gardening leave half the time so they get paid only until they get another job?
Honestly not sure, i thought the 'firing' club were obliged to pay up a contract and that whether it was only paid up until that manager got another job depended on whether the manager was prepared to accept those terms.
