Luckily isn't in charge. Will be ex Sheffield Wednesday CM Glenn Whelan in charge
  • Our ex player Miguel Lera now assistant at Bristol Rovers.
  • Our ex player Miguel Lera now assistant at Bristol Rovers.
Hope he's not coaching the defence!

The two home games against Swindon spring to mind with Miguel Lera:

The boxing day match when we had 9 men for the whole of the 2nd half and Lera scored late on for CAFC to rescue a desmond.
I will go to my grave believing that both CAFC players who received red cards that match were either morons or gamblers.

The Swindon play-off home match we managed to snatch defeat from the Jaws of victory over the two legs and Lera was involved in the Swindon goal after we were looking good and the game went to added time and pens where Nicky Bailey hit the spot kick into the fan in row Z 🤦🏼‍♂️

  • Sam Sodje was the first sending off, we had a corner which broke down, Sodje then took out the Swindon player 80 yards from our goal.

    Moron or gambler you decide.

Llera has not signed a contract in BS7 but Bristol Live understands that there is certainly a decent possibility that, if the Spaniard proves to be a good fit, he could eventually be added as a permanent addition to Calderon's coaching staff.

So basically their Danny Hylton (without the playing obligation).

Crystal Palace sporting director (ok I know this isn't really a manager) Dougie Freedman will leave the club and is considering taking up a position in Saudi Arabia.

With the success of most of their signings I would say he had done a good job

Wasn't one or both of the Sodjes involved in illegal betting?  So getting the red might have been pre-planned?

    * not at Charlton

On February 23, 2013 , Sodje (same one as in the thread) then playing for Portsmouth, was sent off for punching Oldham Athletic’s Jose Baxter in the groin.

Sodje allegedly admitted to having being paid £70,000 to be sent off in the match.

Undercover reporter, Mazher Mahmood, also known as the ‘Fake Sheikh’s five-page article in The Sun on Sunday led to the prosecution of Sodje and others.

In July 2014, Mahmood was suspended by the sun following a judge’s statement that Mahmood may have perjured* himself.

Contostavlos’s case, that of Sodje and 29 others, were dropped because of accusations of perjury against their accuser, Mahmood.

    *told un truths

Think it is best to leave it there (as it is un related to this thread and the reporter, who was reporting it, was telling lies himself).

Sam definitely was, although not sure if he was ever found guilty.

"Six people were arrested by the NCA in December 2013 as the result of an investigation into match fixing by the Sun on Sunday. Sam Sodje allegedly claimed that he could arrange for footballers in the Football League to get themselves booked in exchange for cash payments. One of the six people arrested was footballer DJ Campbell.

Sodje told reporters that in an attempt to receive a red card and £70,000 he had twice punched the Oldham Athletic player Jose Baxter while playing for Portsmouth in a League One match. Sodje also claimed that he was preparing to fix games at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and that he had organised £30,000 to be paid to a Championship player for receiving a yellow card. Sodje additionally claimed that he could fix Premier League games"

A good while back a West Ham striker whose surname begins with K (he also played a few games on loan for us) received the ball from the start game kick off and hoofed it straight into touch. Nothing was said at the time, however a lot of bets on the first throw in occurring before10 seconds had been laid. This came to light a long time after the event. I wonder how much K, another notorious gambler, won, if anything of course
EDIT .. Nothing to do with managerial changes of course  :)

Would this be the one who scored a hat trick against us in the 4-4?

Surprised he was there. Didn't he leaves us because he wasn't the manager's job and Jackson was.

Probably was the brunt of Neil Harris' spat the other day.

Kind of feel sorry for him (Euell), he has been unlucky.
  • I hadn't realised he was there. I knew he had been at Bristol City, but not Cambridge

He can do much better than Cambridge Utd

  • Agreed, no idea what they expected him to do
  • Shame for Rob, probably too big of a jump too soon from Gateshead, and to a bit of a poor ran club... Hope this doesnt stall his Managerial career
  • Shame for Rob but the fans have wanted him gone for months. Not sure what anyone was expecting to happen there when the owners sold anyone with a transfer value in the summer.

Wonder if Lindsay would go back or if he feels like it's a burnt bridge with the owners

Didn't Evans manage there once?  Or am I hallucinating?

EDIT: He did, for five years!  I was sure he left in some big bust-up type thing after only a few months.  Need to lay off the drink.

    EDIT2: Ah yes, I remember why I think he's such a c**t now

  • Crawley is a mess, but Rob hasn't helped himself by trying to play such a pure passing from the back style. It just doesn't work with poor players, and much better opponents.
