After Coventry he wilfully misinterpreted the focus of the flying pigs protest by speaking of it as a protest about team performance and position in the table rather than a protest about the regime (although how he could have failed to hear the Roland/SISU out chants is beyond me).
His hearing appears magically to have returned at Port Vale as he over-reacted wildly in the post-match interview to the chanting which accompanied his decisions towards the end of the game.
In both instances I wanted to hear what the football manager of this club has to say about the performances and his reasons for decisions made.
However, in both instances Slade has not acted in a way befitting a manager and, in particular, the Port Vale comments betray a lack of self-confidence and an apparent eagerness to start lying blame elsewhere which is fatal for a manager even if it may be partly true.
3 league games running actually! He also managed to misinterpret the boos (against Rochdale) when Holmes was taken off and we were desperately chasing the game, as the fans booing Botaka.
I'd love to have seen Riga manage this squad. I think they'd be playing with freedom, confidence and would be handing out some hidings. He'd also have the crowd behind him. He knew how to get the best out of players and someone like Ajose would be banging them in rather than sitting on the bench.
I liked Riga. In his second spell he also demonstrated a bit of backbone when he openly criticised the number of managerial changes, and the requirement for stability. I'd argue that not only was he more tactically competent than Slade, but he was also - ironically - less of a network puppet.
I get the distinct impression that Slade has been taken in by the general sentiments of the SMT, and that's disappointing.

That's a fair point actually, and I do think that the first time he was fortunate to have some of Powell's core squad and backroom staff. On the flip side though, I wonder how fragile the squad was after Fraeye (and the dressing room bust-ups) for his second stint.
I do think Riga would've needed a Director of Football, or a quality scouting setup, to ensure he had a balanced squad to work with. That said, I don't think anyone working for this regime will get that kind of benefit.

In his first stint, he had Dyer and Mathew to provide their knowledge of the league and take the training. In his second spell he had to do it himself and only started criticising when it became obvious that he couldn't turn it around. Totally unimpressed by Riga.
I don't understand when you're a man that's got no support from upstairs you don't play your best available players. Tex not playing and Lennon starting instead is beyond me, but then most things Cafc at the moment are.
So I'm well late to the game on this and have just heard the interview but man, that's bad. That's really, really bad and really petulant. For everyone who has come out with things like "he talks the talk" and "he's good in pressers" can we put that to bed now please? English is his first language, but beyond that, I think he's had more interview breakdowns than any manager under the regime with the exception of Fraeye. Riga would never come out with something like that and if he did many would be baying for blood.
So what was the song referred to in the interview, anyone know the words. Interesting he has relegated our big summer striking transfer to the bench then blames his players for missing lots of chances. As I said on anothe thread he has assured us he has full control over playing matters and our signings and has praised KM enough that on pitch performances have to be laid at his door IMO.
This. He's had more say over transfers than any other manager under this regime. He's been allowed to entirely rebuild a side for League One. He's either successfully or attempted to ship out every foreign player in the team, pressumably because "they weren't up for it." He's fought for Crofts and Foley. And this is where we are. We can talk about the failings of the regime and yes a better run club might have a couple more players in the squad or a bit more quality in places like central midfield but Slade picked this team.
So far, not only have the results been subpar, but the football, from the sounds of things, has been poor and we've dropped a lot of points from winning positions against mediocre opposition. Were only one of those things the case, say mediocre results but good football and picking up points form losing positions, then I'd have a lot more sympathy. But with all three, that lands solely at the manager's door. It's literally his job to coach the team. He's not doing a very good job.
1. As has already be stated so well by Prague, the main blame for the unbalanced squad lies not with Slade. It lies fairly and squarely on the shoulders of Duchatelet and Meire.
Whilst this is ultimately true, we do still have a squad that should be good enough to be in the top 6 of this division. The core of the side (Rudd, Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Ulvestad, Lookman, Holmes, Magennis) would get into most teams in this division. So the undeniable fact here is that clearly Slade isn't getting the best out of them. We also have the likes of Ajose and Texeira who Slade doesn't want to play.
