  • This has pissed me off big time.... I’ve only just caught up with this thread, 20 odd pages of it, and now due to this news I’ll no doubt wake up to another 20 odd pages to read through. Robinson you selfish bastard!!!

Moving on ... I do hope this Aussie syndicate isn't going to stuff our side full with Aussie hopefuls, as was rumoured from right from the off. Mention of Harry Kewell already has me feeling slightly queasy.

This. This is a big concern for me. Just as RD treating us like a feeder club for Leige/young Belgian talent was bad, so would be the approach of hiring Aussie first. Especially if it means giving people like Kewell and/or, say, Mark Schwartzer their second/first job in management solely because they're Australian. It didn't work with Fraeye, we can argue to what extent it worked with Riga and Peters, but if nothing else Australia is not a nation who has shown it can produce top coaches and players.
Well the Aussies made it to the word cup, unlike some countries we could mention.
If you're referencing the US, I would have as big, if not larger reservations about the idea of Stu Holden or Brad Friedal or Landon Donovan getting their starts on coaching here.
Don't worry, I'm sure it was more likely a dig at Scotland, Wales and Ireland !

You can't really refuse a resignation! You can try and convince the person to stay on, offer a bonus to stay, etc. But legally he can tender his resignation and work his agreed notice period.

Is that right even if you're working on a fixed term contract? Unless there's an agreed notice period, which (if it's even there) is probably is tied to the end of the season, wouldn't Robinson be in breach if he just left?
In order to sue, Roland would have to justify a material loss...

This is either an over dramatic stupid shoot myself in the foot type attempted resignation....partly because he wants to advertise himself and wants to be liked.

Or it's an act of betrayal from a coward that can't get results and has thrown his toys out the pram because he is not getting his own way so wants to make it appear like he is not the problem via our current failing the target of promotion.

It is not a dignified...."I have standards and I must walk out with my head held high " type thing.

Maybe I'm wrong here to be honest and it's a little harsh to say.

I guess, for one reason or another he is now desperate to get as far away from Charlton as possible.

Maybe he knows something that we do not? Or is really frustrated with it and feels he has been lied to...but then again he has fed the press a load of exaggerated bollocks plenty of times.

  • Just had a text in from my wife's nephew, an Oxford fan, "What can Oxford expect from Karl Robinson then?".

    Suggestions?

    Queues at the chippy.

Perhaps he has seen the CEO and the CFO get arguably better jobs (at Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough respectively) by jumping ship early, and has thought 'I'll have some of that'.
Or is he in a psychological meltdown? After all, his ramblings and rantings have got progressively more bizarre over the past couple of weeks or so. Perhaps working at a 'basket case' club has turned him into a basket case. Or is it that he is just a right basket full stop?
  • The fat Scouser on gardening leave??

He’ll stick in just the one potato plant, which will get crowded out by weeds and when it fails to produce any spuds, he’ll have had even more time to prepare his excuses...

    One question press conferences. ;)
  • Very unprofessional in my view. Riga had his issues with RD and stuck at it. Luzon too.

The comparison here in my view would be with Dowie.

A couple of weeks ago he made his comment about players not being required to come in if they didn't believe we could get to the play-offs and get promoted.

Is he taking his own advice? It's not as though he listens to anyone else (even if they could get a word in).
  • And a Turnip in goal
  • Paul Green the Newshopper journo said KR shook every reporter by the hand after Saturday's press conference.
He said it seemed like a "see you later" moment.

    KR must be joining Oxford.

Just as likely that he'd sneezed into his hand before the presser, and didn't want to wipe it on his shiny Hummel gear....
  • Been checking this all flipping day. Went out at lunchtime convinced that he'd be gone by the time I got back. And what's happened to Oxford's Tuesday "wow factor" announcement?!

There's part of me that wants him to stay and suffer until Roland's gone, stood on the touchline taking the well-deserved abuse for crawling up to Roland and Katrien and then trying to blame everyone but himself when it inevitably went wrong. And I don't want to see Jacko or Jason Euell stuck in the firing line while we wait for the takeover to go through.

  • Not much sympathy for Robbo on here. Trying to be fair he has had a crazy year, dealing with our mad owner. Big ups and now big downs - well at least I think we are on our way down the league. We have no idea of what promises, if any, have been broken by Roland and Meire. I suppose we will have to wait for his book for the details. We all think he is a one trick pony who tries to play attractive football but is so intransigent with his 4231 system. Injuries have wrecked his team selection so he is not a lucky general. In football you really do need luck as well as skill. One thing is for sure, if he has quit then we will not be able to hire a decent coach until the takeover eventually happens because we truly are a basket case club. At least Robbo was right about that.
  • Would be interesting if he's still hanging around for our home game on Saturday for one last hurrah.

Hand it in, Robbo, Hand it in,
Hand it in, Robbo, Hand it in,
    ...
    Oooh Robbo, Hand it in"

Seems to me like there’s been a bit of media manipulation going on with KR and it’s starting to unravel

The bookies have Robinson at evens favourite for the Oxford job, miles clear of the next name. However, the Oxford owner told the local press the new manager, to be announced on Tuesday, will have a "wow factor" with the fans - surely that rules out Robinson. Unless it's: "Wow! Can't we do better than him?"

Sounds to me like it won't be Robbo then, but also because the bookies had him at 6/1 on last week, so he's drifting. Sven would have wow factor, and if the owner is as rich as they say, they could afford him.
Also I doubt Robbo would be sounding out the Fleetwood job if knew he was going to Oxford.
Could it be Robbo with Sven in a DOF role ?
Actually, not a bad call. They could let Sven handle the media side for a start.

For a man that has such awful teeth he has certainly shagged some quality crumpet.

Do you think the fact there are thousands of 19 to 25 year old females in the uni city is the reason that Sven fancies the Oxford job ?
Oxford is a good place to live for any number of reasons. It's not as good as London though.
  • **** right off to Oxford, you can **** right off to oxford **** right offf to oxfordddddd

take the right out then it would work
  • Well the fact that whilst the takeover is up in the air, Robinson is not going to be sacked is an opportunity for him. I don't mind the crap he spouts in press conferences when the team is doing ok to be honest. It is up to him to stuff the criticism down our throats by turning things around. And it is up to players who may be unsure of their futures to impress this or other clubs by playing well.

All this talk of him going to Oxford - I can't honestly see there being a big queue for his services and seeing as he is in a job right now, his best bet is to stop feeling sorry for himself and turn things round. He has people around him - call a meeting and discuss options to save our season. No holds barred, criticism of tactics ect... Why do teams find it so easy to stop us? Why do we not look dangerous enough? Why do we make key defensive slips? Explore what alternative tactics might work. No suggestion is ridiculous sort of thing. I would imagine an in house meeting between Robbo, JJ, Bowyer and Euell chaired by Keith Peackock may be helpful. But that is for him - for us we have to see the team turning it round starting from Plymouth on Saturday!

I have a feeling Robinson doesn't rate our players (barring his signings of course) and the players know that. He probably couldn't stop himself from telling them.
