I can't believe that, following the usual cover of night mid week action, it would have still have been hard.soapy_jones said:Fecks sake. Told Latrien months ago what to do. Place a table loaded up with vol au vents in the Cupboard End penalty area, then release Perks and other flunkies and lickspittles from traps set up in the Jimmy Seed penalty area. Hey Presto! a mad race to get their snout in the trough...pitch defrosted!

Edit - I meant the centre circle of course.0 -

There must be an open ended pipe somewhere ready to connect to the boiler. Couldn't the SMT simply blow down it? They're not normally short of hot air.3

It's funny what difference a few minutes can make to how i feel.
Been grumpy all day since our game was called off.
Had to watch children's tv with the grandchildren.
All of a sudden palarce lose, i open a decent bottle of red and haho I'm the happiest man going11 - Sponsored links:

Just been out for a paper, sunny, + temperatures and doesn't even feel that cold
Last Saturday
Today
It was bloody cold in SE7 early this morning - but it was hardly a surprise. And if you install pipes but can't be bothered to finish the job off, don't be surprised if nobody believes your excuses.7 -
Like the builders from Fawlty Towers. Half a job.InspectorSands said:

I bet a lot of chips went to waste!2

The groundsmen probably did everything they could given the resources at their disposal - but the club failed by fitting under soil pipes but not the boiler.
If I recall correctly the intention was to put pipes in so that when we made it back to the Premiership, where under soil heating is mandatory, we would just have needed to add a boiler.
What Les Branleurs Belgique fail to understand is that aspirations to be in the Premiership are required *before* you get there. Clubs that punch above their weight get promoted, those that work hard stay in that division, and the mediocre ones who just get by are the ones who get relegated.
The lack of a boiler is a symptom of Belgian mediocrity at its worst.7 -
We all remember when the pitch was done and put right they put in the pipework and said they didn't need to install a boiler, they could hire one in if the weather forecasts dictated. Let's face it, the weather forecasts have been pretty accurate this week and they have consistently predicted that it would be cold this weekend.
Therefore any decent Operations manager would talk to his staff and put contingencies in place to get the game on.
I'd guess a boiler to hire would cost minimum of £1k per day. So for a team thats just had over £10m in from player sales this month that is a drop in the ocean and it would be financially prudent to guarantee a game being in as the club would have to refund a fair number of fans who wouldn't be able to make a rearranged fixture in midweek. An outlay of about £5k!
It couldn't be hard to find a boiler, after all the club was sponsored by a heating company for years!!!
Meanwhile, down the road, a non league team (ok, with a very wealthy owner) have second hand covers from Chelsea and manage to get a game on.
The blame for this lies fairly and squarely with the man in charge of operations, Tony Keohane. Under previous regimes and with proper footballpeople running the club proper action would have been taken.
It's a shambles. Another example of the chaotic empire of Duchatelet. Likes to take, hates to give.
Just go Roland.

OK. Be honest...
How many of you would be calling this an act of genius if Chris Powell was still the manager?0 -
So you admit that you think we could have played but Robinson said "let's not".East_Stand_Loopy said:OK. Be honest...

And you think that is OK?
I don't and wouldn't if it was Powell but you clearly do.6 -
Wouldn't have happened though would it.East_Stand_Loopy said:OK. Be honest...

Not under Powell, Curbs, Lennie, Mullery etc etc.
Anyway, most posters are slating the owners not the manager.4 - Sponsored links:

Powell would have had too much class and respect for the supporters to pull a stunt like this, if it is true.East_Stand_Loopy said:OK. Be honest...

If it is true then it shows how low the club is sinking. Agreed, we have crucial players out but you go with what you are dealt. There is such a thing as karma. Not good at all if true, which sounds very likely.0

Have any of you moaners even SEEN "The day after tomorrow"?
I am 100% behind the regime on this.5 -
There is no doubt in my mind that had this game gone ahead we would have been soundly beaten.
Our best central defenders are all injured or suspended, our forwards are also injured or unfit.
Thanks for the sub zero temperatures. Maybe somebody turned on the sprinkler system last night by mistake. If so well done.0 -

Next time can you message me 150. Mile round trip for naff alllshirty5 said:Called it yesterday that it would be called off. A mixture of no boilers, many injuries and cold weather was always going to be a factor in no game occurring.
The Football League normally want these games rearranged as quickly as possible so it could be arranged for Tuesday week (31st Jan) or the 21st Feb.
With Rochdale and Oldham away in February on Tuesday nights, there is no guarantee those will take place that month, which could lead to a backlog of fixtures and us playing twice a week for a while.
Anyone remember New Years Day 2003 when West Ham pleaded with the ref to call of the fixture due a mixture of poor weather, poor form and injuries. It bit them on the arse 3 weeks later when we beat them.
Let's hope Karma does not strike on us when we play Scunthorpe in the rearranged game.0 -
