Got an extra kids ticket for today for my son's friend. Guess we won't bother again and he'll continue to follow Liverpool

Blimey - what time did he have to set off from Liverpool to make our game?

A bit early to call it off isn't it? It will be thawed out by 3.00pm.

Not all the pitch gets the sun on it. I doubt it would ALL be thawed, especially if it possibly hasn't been covered effectively.

We are fast becoming the laughing stock of English football.
Utter f###ing shambles of a club

Straw poll - I've messaged a number of my pals who support other clubs and they still have a high regard for CAFC as there are plenty of other clubs with 'unusual' owners.

You appear to enjoy CAFC bad news stories.

  • Was contacted last night by someone at another club who said Charlton were trying to get the game off. Was firmly denied by #cafc source.

I don't doubt that we probably were, but why would that info be shared with someone from another club?

Scunthorpe have lost 3 and drew 1 of their last 4 away games so don't buy this 'good time to get it postponed.'

So being without our 2 centre halves Bauer & Tex, our left back Page, Holmes not fully fit, Watt not fully fit and Magennis out, is a good time to play ?

The club operates as a law unto themselves. No regard for the fans of both clubs, Scunthorpe FC, and the football league. They knew the weather forecast and appear not to have made the effort to get the game on because it suited them not to. They had the means to heat the pitch but chose not to. Be surprised if Scunthorpe dont make a complaint.

It's all part of the new "bet on frozen pitches" initiative that paddy power have started up. Him and Deli Alli backed us as 20/1 at the begining of January.

I have heard that while the undersoil heating was installed it was in preparation for a possible return to the Premier League but it was left as is because there is no requirement in the lower divisions for a club to have it. So for the sake of buying an (admittedly large) boiler we have a system in place which is utterly unfit for purpose. Which is pretty much like our CEO.

Utterly bizarre if this is true but not at all surprising under this regime.

Running scared of the mighty Scunthorpe because of a threadbare squad. Who'd have thought it?

Just a guess, but imagine if there had been exactly the same weather conditions at the end of last week - and with the decent sized crowd expected v Millwall - somehow the pitch would still have been perfectly playable come Saturday morning.

From one of the ground staff posting on here in 2014

"All the pipe work is definitely going in. The boiler can be put in at a later date. Temporary boilers could be bought in and be linked up in a day or two so the club might do that if the weather looks dodgy the week before a game"

And if you've got a lot of injuries it won't be linked up.

Note that they say the undersoil pipes are installed "for future use" which gives them some wriggle room. However, it does mean that the final sentence about testing them has to be a lie?

My understanding that the boiler room was to be in a container in the west car park, but now has been incorporated into to the "South Stand" redevlopment. :-0 :-0
  • Done us a favour tbh. Get a few more players back fit/out of suspension? Fuck it, let us 'play the system' for once.
At least I won't have the hump at 5 o/c this afternoon as well!!

every day this week there has been frost. and everyday the frost in London has gone by 1pm. they knew it was going to be cold so you hire a temporary boiler. I find it hard to believe this wasn't done deliberately. they wont admit it but knowing karl (what with the slightly dodgy deli ali deals) I wouldn't put it passed him. the club should have to pay out to fans who have been inconvenienced by the clubs either incompetence or sabotage of todays game.

The frost hasn't gone all week in my back garden in Bromley, where the sun didn't shine on it.
There's a fair bit of The Valley pitch that gets no or very little sun.

If you don't want the game to go ahead, it's pretty easy to ensure parts of the pitch remain frozen & it's not easy to get the game on, even if you want to, as the frost mats are only effective to about -2.

Now if we'd bothered to buy a boiler ....

It may not be ideal but I don't care. I live in Norfolk and I don't get down very often.

I had arranged to take my son. I bought train tickets and we were on our way to the station.

Of course the manager wanted the game called off but it should be on regardless. Undersoil heating not being plumbed in doesn't help but it's entirely possible to have protected the pitch and got the game on in my view, this is not Turf Moor, this the Valley right next to the River Thames in the middle of London ffs.

Flew past the den on the train last night, clearly had thier pitch lamps on full blast(despite playing away)
Same couldn't be said for when I went past the valley. Didn't look as if they were on. Can usually see the orange tinge through the NWQ, but nout last night.

    This.

Shame that scunny fans will lose a few quid but I didn't get any money back when I was half way up to Chesterfield a few years ago. Bollocks to it.

I feel a bit sorry for Scuntthorpe - they probably had three pointsin the bag had the game been played today LOL. With a strong team for the re-scheduled game, I expect to beat them. I was about to leave for this so grateful for the early news.

My gut feeling is this was a game we could have played if we put the effort into getting the pitch playable, but under the circumstances, why do that? I don't think the club can be punished for not renting a boiler!

Hopefully no Scunthorpe fans worried about the prospect of a postponement read the Football Ground Guide before they started their journey. It describes us as having undersoil heating! Mmmmmmm, well yes and no.

If this is the case the club should reimburse the travelling Scunny fans.
