The goal was farcical: three clearances in the six-yard box straight to the opposition, the last of which even they couldn't miss from. There was more movement from the scavenging pigeons than our lot... I had to remind both myself and the lad that this is third division football with third division players. I hope we get dragged into a relegation dogfight. At least there will be a scintilla of excitement as we finally avoid relegation. Oh well, more booze to round up a wretched week.
That goal is literally, hand on heart, the worst goal I've ever seen us concede.
Has anyone else honestly seen us concede a worse one ?

Bobby Zamora for West Ham, opening day of our Prem relegation season. Featuring the greatest air-kick of all time from The Elk
What a poor excuse for a performance that was. How Robinson can say we definitely created enough to win I have no idea, but then again he does seem to talk a lot of guff.
To start with Bury's goal was a comedy of errors, how many chances did we need to clear it, each time passing it into or to one of their players.
We had nothing in Midfield, looked shaky at the back and although Novak tried hard and missed a sitter, we didn't create any clear cut chances. Bury had numerous good chances to extend their lead and only some very poor decision making by their forwards kept this at 1-0. Granted we drew a few good saves from their keeper but they were very difficult to score from unlike many of Bury's chances.
We lacked energy, no one seemed to know where their teammates were and we didn't really seem that bothered. Every time we looked like we could break we slammed the breaks on, delaying the pass, and when the pass did eventually come their players were back and we chose the wrong pass or played it to a Bury player. There was no connection between midfield and the front 1/2/3 - something we have been saying for a long time and something that has not been rectified.
KR came in and said it was all about scoring more goals than the other team. IIRC had said he didn't mind if his teams conceded as long as they scored more - well he has certainly ticked one of those boxes.
Mavididi looked very good at times and if he had scored after waltzing past a few of their players it would have been a blinding and well deserved goal. He tried to do too much at times, much like Lookman, probably because he thought his teammates couldn't provide adequate assistance to his sharp attacking play.
I thought page looked good in his first game (all 20 odd minutes of it) but today he looked pony.
Where was Holmes playing today? Seemed an odd selection for captain to me.
The atmosphere was dire, heard a lot of people around me saying they had come for the football for a fiver and they could see good reason for continuing not to come. The attendance was shocking, was the ground half full? Really?
Bury deserved the win and definitely had enough chances to win by a bigger margin.
Went shopping with family in Sheffield town centre today. Heard the healthy United crowd roar all the way in the town centre a few times with big cheers. Have to say i'm a bit jealous. I'd love our stadium to be packed with fans roaring on the team to victory again and again. United aren't really a bigger club (lately) and can probably only attract similar quality of players and manager. The difference is that they seem to be well run and are littered with people that are Red and White to their core. Even when they were waiting to come good, their fans knew that their backers and board are all behind the club and more importantly hurting when it doesn't go well. If RD was on here telling us how much it upsets him to see us lose i'd have some belief but he doesn't give a fuck about the club, only the bottom line. Win, lose, or draw, if the club turns a profit, then that is all that matters at any cost. I feel sad that I am losing 'my only desire' and all because the one person that is responsible won't do the respectful thing and let the club be run by someone who will cherish it and nurture it back to health.
I didn't check our score until after full-time. This is not me. After nearly 40 years of following Charlton my heart is going cold. I've seen it all over this time as we all have, but i've never once felt this disconnect.
Oh do stop moaning. At the Valley there's a unique fan experience waiting just for you. You could mingle with the opposition fans (if you can overcome your entrenched working class 'it's the football that matters' mindset), and then have a nice jitterbug with fragrant Katrien after the match in the Vol Au Vent Bar. Do the results really matter? Do you really care what league we're in? Rise about those minor matters, because with Roland there's a much better way.
Play the kids. They can't do any worse than the current crock of shite. Recall Kennedy/Hanlan/Terrell Thomas/RCC and just play them. We can support them. They'll give 100% every game.
All I ask for from the players of Charlton Athletic is maximum effort. If we lose giving maximum effort or if we lose due to lack of quality then so be it. When we lose due to lack of effort and laziness - that's inexcusable.
Where to start. Well for the second game in a row I missed the only goal - won't bore you with why.
There were some individual skillful performances but as usual the final balls into the box were wasted, or the ball was given away too cheaply.
We did create a few chances but not enough.
The atmosphere was flatter than a two day opened can of Fosters.
I think this on a par with or maybe is the worst Charlton team I have ever seen in my over 50 years of watching us. Not so much the individual skills but playing as a team - bearing in mind we are slipping in towards the relegation zone of the third tier. It reminds me of the last season under Theo Foley where were looked as if we might be sucked in to a relegation scrap. The good news on that score is that we were promoted the following season with largely the same squad.
They could play my son who is in the B team at welling under 7s and get a better performance out of him judging by what has been said on here. At least he would be playing for the team.

Even the Mighty Elk didn't screw up three times in a row.
Have we had the ubiquitous "I feel nothing/didn't even realise we were playing" post yet ?
About twenty-five of them
Gotta say, even I'm feeling a bit flattened. A shroud of doom is about us. It'll take something to get it off. Mavididi finally scoring his goal of the season might have been that thing, but he's probably gone forever now. Maybe Lewis Page will accidentally stick a crossfield pass in the top corner from 50 yards

If Charlton have the power to knock the wind out of your sails then there must still be some emotion there, which I guess is a good thing ?
I am also ill with a cold. I'd probably be more bullish otherwise. "Let's give Jay DaSilva another go! He's nippy!" Maybe illness is the only way I'll learn

As long as he is as big as Jay Desilva he could always warm the bench.
Baeur and Tex are shadows their former selves. The defending for their goal sums up our performance for the past 2 games. And Novaks missed header was awful. Thanks Roland for making the Valley a joy to visit. Now f*** off.
Not sure what the highlight today was , split between the synchronised actions of the pigeons , the first ever decent crossbar challenge that just missed and the quick fire one twos between Charlton and Bury players that led to their goal
Fairly certain the players are better than this shower. Fingers crossed Karl hasn't lost them.
Maybe we should start calling KR " Bo Peep" ?
But "Dead Man Walking" would be more apt....
Honestly have nothing to add to the adjectives already used describing today's performance.
2 home games in 4 days - nil points. Says it all really.
Fortunately, I have a decent supply of Happy Pills to see me through the remainder of this season but I feel for those that don't have that luxury.
REALLY looking forward to a weekend off in 7 days time and the opportunity to vent some of today's pent up anger & frustration at the home of our nemesis. Not that I'm expecting to catch even a glimpse of the "no balls" Rat but then that's never been the reason for the protest.
It will suffice to play a small part in what will be a pretty impressive number of Addicks, shoulder to shoulder, with a common goal and united in our hatred of this despicable man.
If, after today's capitulation on the pitch , you have decided that enough's enough, PLEASE make the decision to put those pounds you'll be saving towards THE cause by contacting CARD & joining us in St Truiden. Remind yourself how good it feels to part of a like minded group of fans and to be doing something positive towards regaining our club.

The defending for their goal was comical - great teamwork!
I have read 7 pages of comments on this thread, a high number of which are from supporterss attending the game and moaning like hell about the "experience".
I don't get, why go? A genuine question from somebody who did not renew his season ticket this season and has seen just two (protest) games at home and one away game (Oxford). So I ask again, why go, I don't get it? Thanks

I suppose once you stop going you're unlikely to return. If we all stop going that's it - RD doesn't care if there are fans there or not.

As I said on another thread recently, when a woman took the Crossbar Challenge early in the season it went under the bar by about the same distance. And as a bonus, that was a goal at The Valley!
Oddly perhaps, my Arsenal friend who came to the game today really enjoyed it. He thought Stephy, Holmes, Konsa and Aribo looked good. The only player he thought looked terrible was Magennis, because he seemed disinterested. (He must still be not right after his injury, or have fallen out with someone?) His verdict was the we were the better team, but crossed the ball too early, or played a poor final pass. He actually thought they tried their best (patronising bastard).
I reminded him (in great detail) about the 1-1 where diCanio scored the chip penalty, and Henry equalised after we'd been totally dominant.
Seems such a long time ago.
I've been to about four matches at the Emirates with him over the last five years, and found them all pretty boring if I'm honest.

@oohaahmortimer has been adamant all season that this league was so pony we could not go down.
I think we should still have enough to survive in league 1 this season but we need some points now.
Yes Katrien every managerial change has improved us if the end goal is non-league oblivion!
I miss Morgan Fox.

With wife all day at Bicester outlet, spent way more than a fiver....grrrrr
After analysing all posts....
We were utter, utter toilet, Sooo very similar to when I was there Tuesday.
How can a day at an outlet seem a relief???
Sad times....
But "Dead Man Walking" would be more apt....
