Our Amy did a better job than the Beeb fella. If you watched his report you'd be none the wiser as to why Charlton fans are protesting.
True. I think that has something to do with the lost tapes... from when I was chatting to them it was certainly shaping up to be a well explained piece.
A little late to the party here, but as someone who wasn’t able to travel, I just want to say a massive thank you to every one of you that did.
Will unsticky these unity threads later today, but I have nothing but admiration and respect to those that got up at the crack of dawn and gave up the weekend because they believed what they were doing was right, helping to publicise the discontent against Duchatelet’s ownership of Charlton in yet another unique way.
I think it’s obvious to people that ‘a bit of work’ went into the organisation of this event, but I really don’t think many people have much of an idea just how much work it involved. Purely from being on the periphery of all this, I can list out the following things that I know / suspect must have happened to make this a success:
-Negotiation with coach companies -Detailed Liaison with Belgium police / Sint Truidan authorities -Liaison with UK police -Liaison with St Truidan protest group -Planning of day / identification of route -Maintenance of official / independent traveller database, dealing with hundreds of enquiries of interest and provision of comms -Booking of coach travellers, takings of bookings -Stewarding of coaches -Stewarding of march -Arrangement of pre-meet venue, bookings for buffet -Arrangement of band details for protest gig, transport of gear -Identification of hotels, travel within area, train connections etc -Design, ordering, delivery of banners -Design, ordering, delivery of placards -Design, printing of protest leaflets, -Production of travel itinerary / information for passengers etc -Making of effigy -making 110 sausage breakfasts for coach travellers -Creation of press releases / advance statements -Liaison with press / television crews -Arrangement of interviews -Acquiring of match tickets for those staying overnight
That’s just off the top of my head and I’m sure I’ve missed loads of others. Some individuals from CARD, B20 and WAR devoted an extraordinary amount of time to this around their work and families, and with what seems to be the minimum of fuss.
The result of their efforts was once again an event that was superbly co-ordinated and managed, which the local authorities clearly must have had trepidation about but embraced due to the responsible and appropriate way it was organised. Charlton support is blessed to have so many fantastic “do’ers” and I for one am grateful to them.
What impact it had, no one knows. But I think it’s pretty clear that were this particular protest to be repeated again, there is confidence it will be done successfully with even greater numbers.
Lets all hope that there won't be a need for that to happen.
Ps. If you've not yet got round to reading the accounts thread, I strongly recommend for a bit of bedtime / commuting reading. Some great accounts there
At the risk of being a sycophant to authority, it's also worth mentioning that if it wasn't for this forum there is absolutely no way I would have been on the protest.
vinegar pissers , i thought that comment might come from a millwall or palace fan not a 70yr old grandad who is a businessman and the owner of our family club and was said about his customers , this is the mentality of the man , dont let him drag us down to his level . we took the protest to him fantastic atmosphere we gained a lot of respect from the locals and the police A very big thank you to all who organised the trip , great atmosphere great entertainment and the best supporters protest group in the country
@AFKABartram well said. I speak as a footsoldier who got lucky that they chose a weekend where I had already booked to come back to the UK. Thanks again to all those who organised it.
zeppelin would like to say hi to the few who sat up in the hotel bar of the holiday inn express till the early hours planning the next protest , i still think the Zeppelin had a lot going for it , paint it red and white , i think i might know where i can lay my hands on one lol was great to meet you all , wish it was for a European game instead of a protest cant let him grind us down
I don't think we should take the vinegar pissers comment too seriously after all we did have a banner saying RD **CK *FF , which i thought was great. We should try and incorporate it into a Charlton song.

I'm still trying to remember how we got from the idea of a boat from Hasselt to St Truiden to a Zeppelin. I think it was when we discovered the river in Hasselt didn't go in the right direction but when will the minutes be available?

It's that bloody Rupert Bear Coat that attracts them.
That last video he's named as Duncan, despite his name being written in large letters on his cap.
For those that doubt the protests remember the quote,"for evil to triumph it only takes good men to do nothing".
Don't let this evil regime win. Thank you card etc for keeping up the pressure.
