  • When you've all finished talking utter bollocks, the Boss needs some advice on resin bonded driveways!

    http://forum.charltonlife.com/discussion/51731/resin-bonded-driveways#latest

Point being, the majority of you don't know your arses from you elbows when it comes to politics, so you may as well go as talk about resin bonded driveways...eh

Voting to keep the Tories out, wherever you live, is the only sane thing to do. Unless you own a newspaper, they do not represent you.

Good god. I don't think it's as cut and dry as that.

Your definition of right wing probably encompasses quite a wide spectrum. I'd also like to add thin skinned to my insults/insight.

I usually watch elections avidly but not this time.

Think I may stay up just to check in on here and watch the place go in to meltdown IF a Tory win is looking likely. Won't need booze to keep me up, the comments should keep me chuckling throughout.
  • Just voted, polling booths a lot busier than usual.

People actually stay up to watch the results?!?

I get that people are interested in the full time score.....but the 90 mins is hardly spectator worthy surely.

I reckon I'll be able to hold out until the morning.

Nonsense - of course it's spectator worthy. This is amongst my favourite television moments in my lifetime.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-29934256/bbc-rewind-michael-portillo-loses-enfield-southgate
Out of all the big names who lost that night, he was the only one to show any grace, even though he was the epitome of 90's Tory boy. Someone who I can respect from across the isle and has gone up massively in my estimation since he has moved out of the limelight. Not saying I didn't enjoy it at the time....
I like him now - but not back then!

  • From a personal view I'm dreading another five years of Tory assaults on the public sector....ooops, I mean much needed austerity. HMPS is on its knees and really can't cope with any more cuts. I make this prediction now - if the Tories get in with a landslide and take that as a green light to keep decimating the prison service an officer will die on duty as prisons are just so unsafe at the moment and will be until someone comes along who respects the pressures we face.

That's a great point. Tories saying they'll lock up more criminals and imminent threats, but won't pay for more prisons or guards.

You might remember I voted Tory last election.

You only seem to come into this thread to post personal insults in my direction and not contribute at all. It's very sad, then you throw hissyfits like your above post when called out on it. Certainly not a jolly man in a red shirt, just bitter and obnoxious.
No pressies for you this year.

Not cos you insulted Santa, just less disposable income...

Who do you think gave Rudolph his red nose?
  • I think an interesting poll on here would be who's voting different to last time, a number have jumped ship from blue to red or in my case red to blue.

I voted exit last time, but couldn't see the option on this occasion.

That will be a key indicator for me (though saying that, based on our likely geographical spread, probably unlikely to affect seat swings - if it were replicated nationwide that would be interesting).

May hasn't worn blue much if at all in 2017... instead adopting Red is she secretly Charlton?

Corbyn only wears blue in mourning.

If you want to go down that path I'd say you were self righteous and judgemental with a narcissistic need to cut down anyone who disagrees with you. Your sweeping statements about people who vote Tory are pathetic and encapsulate the Corbynista cult perfectly.
Glad you got that off your chest.

    Friends?

UKIP to Green is an interesting one.

    Indeed

My mum's just informed me her and my dad have just got back from voting for the Tories as usual. They're both too far gone to have a reasonable discussion about politics with tbh but when I asked them for one example of something positive their party of choice has achieved in the last 7 years my old dear replied, "well they let us buy our council house."

    That was in 1983 ffs!

To rub it in my dad comes on the phone and starts complaining about the length of time he's having to wait until his next Parkinsons check up and, "it never used to be like that..."

    image

Very similar to my old mum, bless her. I spoke to her on the phone yesterday and asked if she is Ok getting to her local Polling Station. She told me already she sent in a postal vote for Mays Tories, because 'Corbyn cant be trusted on immigration, national security or the NHS?? And dont even mention the IRA', btw my mum reads the Daily Mail and watches Sky News, she also lives close to my middle brother who's politics are to the right of Ghengis Kahn, so I am sure he has had his say, that said she is very strong willed.
I pointed out the Tory press untruths, Corbyn's vision and the LibDems ideas, and that Social Care (something that she relies on) is and will be more of a disaster under the Tories, we spoke about a couple of other election issues, and has she read Labours and the Tories manifesto's, no she hadn't, BUT said even if she had, she just doesn't like Corbyn. Theres no comeback to that.
Obviously I told her I respect her opinion and her right to vote for whoever she wants to, because I do.
I just wish that people were more informed, and I suspect that the above is a microcosm for a lot of over 75 year olds.
And as above, next week she will be moaning about how long she will have to wait at the hospital, and the excessive Car Park charges....!
    Ha, ha.

    Daily Mail readers - check
    Sky News watchers - check
    Tory voting siblings- check

And I'm sure their bowls club was a hotbed of political discussion with proper consideration given to all the parties manifestos and records too.

    Whaddaya gonna do..!
