Can't all be down to the Daily Mail and dementia surely?

    ;0)

On a slightly serious note, I didn't bother looking, but my dads in a care home with late stage dementia, could he in theory have voted? Not that he could write an X on a piece of paper but I guess there is no law stopping his vote?
If he's registered and can get himself to the polling station, yes. No bars on health grounds.
My dad will take my nan to the polls. She's at mid-stage dementia. She was very insistent that in the EU Referendum she voted the same way she did in 1975 (she voted to join the EEC) but at the same time was very insistent she voted for Boris.

She was a Tory all her life up until they sent her a letter 5 years ago asking her to leave some money to the party when she passes on. I doubt she'll remember that when she gets to the polls.
  • First one to do a "which one for Roland out" tweet wins #cafc twitter for the day.
  • From a personal view I'm dreading another five years of Tory assaults on the public sector....ooops, I mean much needed austerity. HMPS is on its knees and really can't cope with any more cuts. I make this prediction now - if the Tories get in with a landslide and take that as a green light to keep decimating the prison service an officer will die on duty as prisons are just so unsafe at the moment and will be until someone comes along who respects the pressures we face.

They will tell you it's all about tough choices, I will tell you and your colleagues to all phone in sick on the same day.

Any voting in Bermondsey and old Southwark? Got a couple of tories at the office voting Lib dem tactically as they might beat Labour as the tory's have no chance, anyone else tactically voting?!

Not specifically there but a few in the office similar in voting tactically to try & keep a party out. Let's hope it doesn't go viral or the lib dems will get in!!
Long as you pass the dutchie I don't mind.

  • It's the remainers who lost so badly and let everyone know it that might wake up to a decimated Corbyn Labour party I really worry for.

    Please.Keep an eye on them.

My mum's just informed me her and my dad have just got back from voting for the Tories as usual. They're both too far gone to have a reasonable discussion about politics with tbh but when I asked them for one example of something positive their party of choice has achieved in the last 7 years my old dear replied, "well they let us buy our council house."

    That was in 1983 ffs!

To rub it in my dad comes on the phone and starts complaining about the length of time he's having to wait until his next Parkinsons check up and, "it never used to be like that..."

Very similar to my old mum, bless her. I spoke to her on the phone yesterday and asked if she is Ok getting to her local Polling Station. She told me already she sent in a postal vote for Mays Tories, because 'Corbyn cant be trusted on immigration, national security or the NHS?? And dont even mention the IRA', btw my mum reads the Daily Mail and watches Sky News, she also lives close to my middle brother who's politics are to the right of Ghengis Kahn, so I am sure he has had his say, that said she is very strong willed.
I pointed out the Tory press untruths, Corbyn's vision and the LibDems ideas, and that Social Care (something that she relies on) is and will be more of a disaster under the Tories, we spoke about a couple of other election issues, and has she read Labours and the Tories manifesto's, no she hadn't, BUT said even if she had, she just doesn't like Corbyn. Theres no comeback to that.
Obviously I told her I respect her opinion and her right to vote for whoever she wants to, because I do.
I just wish that people were more informed, and I suspect that the above is a microcosm for a lot of over 75 year olds.
And as above, next week she will be moaning about how long she will have to wait at the hospital, and the excessive Car Park charges....!
And that's part of the problem with this country. Tbh all the talk bemoaning low turnouts, I'd actually rather turnouts that were lower but the people voting had actually bothered to read a manifesto, read different newspapers, websites or blogs and had weighed up arguments from all parties.

Everyone has an opinion on politics regardless of whether they know anything. Look at the news over the past couple of days, reporters interview the public asking who they're voting for and why? "Well I think May is a strong woman who can get us a good deal", "I don't trust Corbyn". Presumably these people know them personally? It's completely baffling, imagine a reporter came up to you and said "What are your thoughts string theory?" Most people would just say "I have no idea".

I'm all for people using their vote but FFS do some research and don't just vote for whatever you think about a certain person. That's far more dangerous than not bothering at all.
That's the joy of democracy! Your vote is worth exactly the same as a stupid person's!

Exit polls won't be 100% accurate. I spoke to a friend of my mum's who was wearing a Tory rosette and was surprised that he was there. He asked to see my number and I just chatted to him. Afterwards, I went in and voted Labour then came out and chatted to him again. It wasn't until I came home that I realised he put my name down on the Tory side of the exit poll. Never asked me how I will vote but just took it for granted.

Therefore landslide Labour win 489 seats

That probably wasn't an exit poll, more them keeping a tally of who has actually voted. That way they can focus their "getting the vote out" efforts this evening on people who haven't yet voted, rather than annoying people who already have.

Oh come on @cabbles stop being so negative will you. A couple of years of packed lunches and driving a banger instead of one of Golfies Jags instead, and you'll soon have that £120k deposit. It's easy innit and you'll only have a £500k mortgage to support after that.

In Strood my house is £206k and thats up £68k in five years

I brought my house for £165k in April 2015 (Tory Government) - The last sale was for £164k in Dec 2007 (Labour), the oldest sale on record for Zoopla goes back to 1998 (also under Labour) was for £56k
