That graph gives me hope that maybe ordinary people aren't so selfish after all.
  • Bleeding-heart liberals, eh?
  • Latest Beeb forecast has Labour down to 262.

Tories up to 318 (they must have had Rudds seat as a Labour gain).

Effective majority is 323 once speaker and Sinn Fein are out.

They will be 5 over that with the DUP members.

Spin it how you like, having to go into coalition after an election that was only called because they saw an easy chance to extend their majority is a piss poor result for the Tories.
I'm not spinning it. It is piss poor and that solution won't last.

The best thing for the Tories would be for Corbyn to try wobbling is way into number 10 with 260 odd seats - but Jezza ain't gonna buy that if he has any common sense

    Vote split. Again.
Much of it sought by the 'Lib' Dems. Again.
    Tory bed-fellows, 2010.
    Tory assisters, 2015.
    Tory assisters, 2017.

    Amber Rudd (CON): 25,666
    Peter Chwoeney (LAB): 25,322
    LD: 1,885
    UKIP: 1479

    666. Appropriate.
    Lib Dems the villains.
    Tory bed-fellows...again.
    Despicable.
Eh? Lib Dems have repeatedly stated they aren't willing to enter a coalition, they've done so multiple times throughout the night.

Think Anna is suggesting that if Lib Dems had stood aside, it might've tipped the balance in Labour's favour.

An interesting take on politics; "why don't the other parties just stand aside, this competition bollocks isn't fair".

Regardless of personal views, the Lib Dems were quite valuable this year in providing an outlet for those opposed to Brexit IMO. Considering the current state of things, a centre party is also very much needed in our political landscape.

If anything, the UK could do with more parties of various persuasions and a different electoral system. Much of todays societal divisions come from under-representation of various demographics.

  • lib dems have had a good election i'd say, clegg was a righteous sacrifice but oh my god the sun is up
  • Tory and DUP coalition on the cards? May has surely got to go. These results aren't labour being good it's more Tory running an awful campaign.

Whatever happens, pray that no Education portfolio goes to DUP, they are a bit godly, for a very specific interpretation of God (and that Sammy Wilson, in general, is kept hidden) - intelligent design in the A Levels anyone?
  • Surely there's an impending by-election in her constituency; given that she's no longer well enough for her shadow cabinet position - surely the same goes for her duties as a constituency MP?
  • Turnout is at about 68.5%.

    The highest level since 1997.

Forecast amended from 318 to 316 Tories.

316 Tories and 10 DUP only just makes the 326.

The effective majority required is actually 322, as you need to remove the Sinn Fein empty seats (currently 7) from the total number of seats (650).

Either way, a failure for May and ridiculously tight considering she was sitting in charge of a majority government 36 hours ago.
I heard Corbyn's on the phone to his old mate Gerry Adams trying to make a deal............
  • Twenty two seats short of a majority, and there are twenty two seats left to declare.

The next non-conservative announcement will confirm a hung parliament.
  • I don't understand why the speaker always counts, and then gets taken off.

What's the point - just don't include them in the first place!

Even with the DUP and even if you exclude Sinn Feinn the Tories are in a weaker place than they were yesterday. All it takes is a couple of MPs not towing the party line, which on any given issue - especially Brexit - is entirely probable, and the Conservatives won't be able to govern.

As a Labour voter I'm happy with the results but if we thought our country was in a mess polically yesterday the God knows where we are now.
Agree, as someone who reluctantly voted Tory, if they can make the coalition, then it's not the worst thing in the world. I'm not happy with the NHS side of things so with a smaller amount of seats and having to be in a coalition then hopefully things might improve on that side.

Best result of the night is the fact that the SNP have lost seats. Have that Sturgeon, ya melted welly face

Wouldn't it depend on which side of the house the speaker comes from?
