  • Mm, the time for that tweet would have been at the moment of victory - and not before.
  • Its such a shame that Vince always looks so good.

Yes but it could be worse - you could look rubbish and not get runs too. No names because that wouldn't be fair but the current drinks carrier fits the bill.
  • Last over before dinner. Then the lights - when survival will be the key.
  • it was all going so well when I was asleep. I get up and the wickets start to fall

Do us a favour - go back to bed!
  • 68-2 at dinner

    286 to win
  • End of session. 68-2.
  • Lyons's figures:

    8-4-6-1

Combination of great bowling and an inability from us to rotate
  • Few risky shots from Root. A decent partnership through to close and it will get very interesting

You've got to think that one of these two has to make a really good score. The left handers don't fancy Lyon.

Englands first target should be 139 ie beat Australia's 3rd innings score.

Then 215 the next target, the deficit after the first innings concluded.

If we can get there and then within one hundred of the 354 required with wickets in hand, we can put some pressure on.

  • Need a big captain’s innings from root. The kind of situation where you need your senior players to stand up.

This. Needs an innings of 150 from him if we are going to stand any chance of winning, However, as Vaughny said, if we just let Lyon bowl without trying to knock him out of his rhythm then we will lose heavily. Cant let him keep bowling like he is - Root has got to take some responsibility there.
  • Vince and malan need to show some bollocks.
  • That's a surprising stat - neither Courtney Walsh nor Jimmy Anderson, despite being the 5th and 6th top wicket takers of all time and having 1033 Test victims between them, have ever got more than 7 wickets in an innings.

At least Walsh had the excuse of bowling alongside Curtly Ambrose
  • Eleven off Starc's first over after tea. This session will be huge
  • A shame it took a game and a half for England to bowl well and put the Aussie batsmen under pressure, if they had scored 100 fewer in the first innings I’d fancy England to get this total
  • Why Vince? Simply why?
  • WHY did Vince play at one that wide?

    Great minds and all that.

  • That is an absolutely terrible shot in any circumstances, let alone these ones.
  • it was all going so well when I was asleep. I get up and the wickets start to fall

Same here. Just got up & been watching the final session - 10 mins in & we've lost Vince. I predict 6 down at stumps.
  • That's why we dropped him.
  • We have a quite incredible knack of playing stupid shots at key times and getting out. Just fucking leave it, you've got over a day to bat for
  • Vince has the class, which is clearly what the selectors saw to bring him back, but not the temperament. I have been extremely critical of Ballance for not changing his technique once dropped but unless Vince learns that the most important shot in Test cricket is the "leave" he is destined to go the same way.

In fact, if you could have Vince's class and Ballance's stubborness you would have one hell of a batsman.
  • The story of Vince’s career in one shot
  • Lucky Root lucky.
  • Ohhhh Joe
  • Thank god for that!
