As we all now on here by now it is the hope that kills you. If Root and Malan can stay in for the last few overs of this day we have a whole new day tomorrow with a deteriorated wicket and Lyon in good form. We made a rod for our back in the first innings and still can't see us taking this Test. If we do I'll eat Boycott's hat.
Saying all that though, this is decent cricket and Test drama at it's finest.
If we lose, it won't be because Vince played at a fast outswinger that exploded off the pitch under the lights on day four.
No it won't but you simply can't just throw your wicket away at test level which is exactly what he did. It may have exploded off the pitch, but at yorker length and a whole set of stumps wide - you simply do not throw your hands at those.
Is Woakes a nightwatchman, after looking so good in the first innings?
I think we've done the right thing. He's not a front line batsman but not a bunny who is just going to give his wicket up so we are five down. Woakes might, of course, get out but one could also see him putting on 50 with Root.

He also has a first class average of 35 and Test average of 30.

70/30 Australia?
Work has been parked, come on England big stuff from the skipper
190 to win and 7 wickets in hand. You'd like to think that's possible.
The absolute worst thing now would be a run-out
