Solly will get and deserves to get dogs abuse when we play Gillingham if that is where he ends up.

I loved the guy so much but have nothing but hatred for him now.

He walked out on us plan and simple
    Hatred? Really?
    Yes

I dont get anyone who says Solly is not the same as Taylor because he may not have played.

    He may not have done
But with 2 games a week he may have been a useful player to use to give Matthews a rest or even as Left back cover when we needed it.

I also paid for Sollys testimonial and his Q&A and feel like by not honoring his contract he has betrayed us all.

We have ben relegated and as much as I doubt it will I hope it plays on both Solly and Taylors minds.

They’re both as bad as each other, but for slightly different reasons. Hatred is a strong word though, not sure it’s quite how I feel, but I get where you’re coming from.
  • Taylor was the bigger loss on the pitch, but I feel more let down by Solly. Club captain, senior pro and surely someone who should have some feelings towards the club.

Not playing 9 games because you're worried about injury concerns is hardly a great calling card for your next club either.

Your right but they could even said he was injured so couldn't return to training so would have not been available, then to far behind etc.

He could still have supported his teammates at games, given advice to the younger players etc

Imagine the positive response he would have got from the fans and wider football world - "He's likely to be released in the summer, but Charlton legend Chris Solly will be 100% behind his teammates as they fight for survival, on and off the pitch"

All the old ex-players appear to like going back to The Valley to see games, attend supporters and other functions etc. I just don’t see how Solly could ever have the nerve to do any of that. I think it unlikely he would have started many of the last 9 games, but he should have made himself available and if not until the end of the season then at least through to end June. I suspect he will live to regret his decision.

Let’s not forget he was club captain as well - nice of him to turn his back on his team mates when they could have done with a captains lead (although why he was Club captain I’ll never know) . Instead he threw his toys out of his pram. If it’s down to not getting picked then he should have livened himself up and tried to get his place back. Wonder if he will have a hissy fit at his next club when he gets dropped?

  • No explanation from him so fans are fully entitled to give him abuse if we ever play against him. My personal view, fuck him!
  •  I tried to to speak to him when we met him at the hotel with my 5 and 3  year old...at Boro away game....ignorant...or just thick....either way should have had more respect for Charlton fans who made a long journey.  Darren Pratley was an absolute gentleman and happy to chat with my lads.
  • No comparison. Solly was supposedly Charlton through-and-through and came through the youth ranks to be a very respected club captain with a few injury issues. Owed some sort of explanation to us supporters and we'd have respected him. Very disappointing.

Lyle came here as a step up and dropped us once a bigger payday might have been in jeapordy. Helped us gain promotion in 1 season. Didn't need us anymore. No explanation. No respect. No care.
  • Baggy.
  • In terms of ethics, he really is no better than John Terry.
  • Solly still hasn't broken his vow of silence, perhaps he's gone to live in a monastery

He’s neither ignorant or thick...........just very very reserved, introverted and rather shy.
    the ideal captain, in fact
Richard Rufus has to be the strangest choice of captain Curbs made, someone else with no obvious leadership qualities (at the time)

I remember Olly saying that Chris will leave out the front door and will get a proper send off once the anger dies down

Unfortunately with this result today I think it'll be a while before than happens now
It should not happen, the bloke did the same as Taylor and therefore should be treated the same. He has gone, end of story no tributes
Agreed. I wonder if he would have hung about if his testimonial was this year? Not particularly bothered about him to be honest, but he should have honoured his contract, particularly as the club have looked after him for over 10 years....actually it’s a contract so he should be seeing it out regardless of how long he has been at the club.  Hope he gets dogs abuse if he plays against us next season.
    He'll be injured.

It's a job, footballers do not care about the supporters when it comes to their livelihood.

Remember when he turned up at a press conference during the Robinson era? He was quite confident and chatty on that occasion. Is someone who is ‘ reserved, introverted and rather shy‘ an ideal choice as club captain?
One old Charlton manager made Benny Fenton captain, despite him making his life difficult by being cheeky, outspoken and a ‘comedian’.

In real life I'm someone who is very reserved, introverted and can be a bit shy, certainly when I'm taken out of my comfort zone... When Im in that zone though I have confidence and even a little bit of arrogance

Since he broke into the First Team I've often found Solly to a similar character, never really done any interviews as its not where he's comfortable - On the pitch, whether its at the Valley or Sparrows Lane and I bet he's a completely different person

I seem to remember Louis Mendez saying that Solly was never really that comfortable doing interviews etc.

He never seemed very vocal on the pitch either, when you compare him to the likes of Dillon, Pratley, Pearce and Lockyer
  • never welcome back. Didn’t that Olly groome fella send some defensive post about Chris’ side of the story. Well where is it then!
  • Some proper joke comments here, literally some of our fans are so damn fickle, we know nothing and less so than Taylor which has been more publicly. Solly has been a great servant to the club if i was to guess it was our choice or we couldn't pay his wages when he wasnt in Bowyers plans. Talk about shit on all your best players, Parker it happened (Scotty) for getting his dream move, although it did mess us up, Taylor has decided not to risk his big chance (wherever that will be) and Solly noone really knows until he turns up somewhere or there is an official statement.

Until we know the facts how can you all crucify someone so quickly, yes we got relegated probably more significant down to LT not playing but still who knows its done now, at the time it royally pissed me off but sometimes look at the bigger picture. I wont boo either player if they ever return  (at least for now lol)
Might help if Solly explained his reasoning then? Nothing is stopping him.
