Some proper joke comments here, literally some of our fans are so damn fickle, we know nothing and less so than Taylor which has been more publicly. Solly has been a great servant to the club if i was to guess it was our choice or we couldn't pay his wages when he wasnt in Bowyers plans. Talk about shit on all your best players, Parker it happened (Scotty) for getting his dream move, although it did mess us up, Taylor has decided not to risk his big chance (wherever that will be) and Solly noone really knows until he turns up somewhere or there is an official statement.

Until we know the facts how can you all crucify someone so quickly, yes we got relegated probably more significant down to LT not playing but still who knows its done now, at the time it royally pissed me off but sometimes look at the bigger picture. I wont boo either player if they ever return  (at least for now lol)
Yeah, club to Chris Solly 'look, we know you are under contract but you are not in Lee's plans anymore and we can't afford to pay you anymore, that ok?'

It would be a weird way of doing it (as why keep quiet) but there was an article with Solly wanting to be one of a few players to defer his wages during the pandemic so that other workers at the club wouldnt get put on furlough or laid off - If Solly did do that then surely he'd have effectively gone on furlough himself so wouldnt have been allowed to work.

If thats the case though why wouldnt the club make a big song and dance about it as it would be a decent gesture from Solly

Not to mention why would Bowyer mention him as not wanting to play, unless it was a gesture that Lee didnt agree with as felt he needed the players more

Unfortunately even if it were true I doubt many would believe it (because of the radio silence) and would see it as an excuse to avoid any abuse

I tried to to speak to him when we met him at the hotel with my 5 and 3  year old...at Boro away game....ignorant...or just thick....either way should have had more respect for Charlton fans who made a long journey.  Darren Pratley was an absolute gentleman and happy to chat with my lads.
He’s neither ignorant or thick...........just very very reserved, introverted and rather shy.
    the ideal captain, in fact
Richard Rufus has to be the strangest choice of captain Curbs made, someone else with no obvious leadership qualities (at the time)
Salmon for a couple of games in the mid 90s was always the choice that baffled me

I thought it was a bit fishy at the time.

Was that the pre match meal until the players complained that they preferred chicken?
  • Solly still hasn't broken his vow of silence, perhaps he's gone to live in a monastery
    Definitely not in monastery.
Was seen boozing with Phillips, JFC, Ricky Holmes and others last Wednesday in London.
They were all pretty hammered apparently.

They might have said he wont remain after his contract like others who got extensions, so it could be why he made the decision to not play a few games he was still under contract and potential risks. I doubt he would have been in the squad other than on the bench at best anyway.

Apart from the Cardiff game when Bowyer eveb said we had to change formation as Matthews wqs unavailable so we had nobody able to play at RB

    Thats when we needed Solly.

I don't get why there is a desperation to defend Solly

Bowyer said himself that 3 players told him they would not be playing(Davies, Taylor and Solly) thats good enough for me to put Solly in with Taylor.

Neither player saw out there contract so both players can go F themselves and will get full Parker treatment on return to The Valley for their next club
You may not understand, or you are just in troll mode... but i have stated a few times on this thread why i am defending Solly. I have a feeling there is something behind the scenes, unless we are told otherwise i will stick by it.

People always assume the worse (especially Charlton fans these days, understandable) but pre this contract saga he was a club legend and was in the past a great servant even with his dodgy knees. I wont just forget what he has done and he has always given 100%, another reason he was captain for a while.

LT/Solly are slightly different cases, i could probably defend them both but also note LT was more key to us staying up or down, LT was his decision 100% as we offered a contract, Solly it doesn't appear we have, so although technically he could have played the last few games he could have been told prior to that he was surplus to requirements.

Until he signs for another club i will stick with my opinion, he deserves that at least.
Surely it is entirely logical to assume the worst in a case like this though, especially as he's said NOTHING for nearly 2 months now? Look at our management, can you really see Johnnie Jackson screwing Solly over?

Solly is no different to Lyle Taylor, indeed as club captain and someone who had just had a testimonial year if anything I'd expect MORE from him.

Solly was out of contract by the Cardiff game, if I'm not mistaken.

Cardiff game was 30th June so would have been the last day of his Contract

I stand corrected, can understand Taylor's refusal but not Solly's.

Although hopefully all will be revealed.
  • Regardless of whatever his reason was for not playing on, his contract has ended, he's left the club and the season is long finished so it's very surprising that he still hasn't told us why.

We've even had messages on their social media from players like Cullen and Hemed, yet still nothing from the club captain who was with us for over a decade.
His silence is annoying me more than his refusal to play

Probably written in his contract mate.

  • He's just a wanker. End of. Even with all this guff about him being "shy' and 'quiet', the guy should have some sort of compulsion to want to explain to the fans......or, he plainly doesn't give two fucks on how we felt. He simply doesn't give a shit. Worse than  Lyle as far as I'm concerned.
Language, Timothy!  That aside - I agree with you.
  • worth checking out the worth checking out the stat bank thread to see how good Solly has been for us.

No real idea what’s going on with him refusing to play as it still seems very out of character for him.

    Wish him all the best.

How can anyone understand either players refusal to play at least the three games they were contracted to?

Even if sh*t was going on behind closed doors, such as a falling out etc they refused to do their jobs and should have been immediately fired without any compensation.

Taylor was wrong to do what he did.
In his eyes his attitude was probably to not want to jeopardise a life changing move for 3 games.
I stand by what I say on understanding why he did it.
We're only getting p***** off because he done it to us.

Not really, depends who you are i guess... no need to shout to make your point. I do understand both sides here, just i prefer to believe he has some honour/integrity or there is something behind the scenes. I am not going to say i told you so, but well just wait and see. If it comes out he was being a prick (Solly not LT) then i can change the opinion.

I enjoy a debate and am open to peoples arguments, although for now ill stick with.
