    Anderson has scored lots goals for the U23s but this reads like "we haven't been given the green light to sign Best by the board yet"

    Heard last night that a fellow Charlton fan had a brief chat with Ajose this month. When asked if he would be coming back to Charlton, the answer was

    I imagine that's more because Bury are totally underwhelmed by him, than us wanting him back. Not really equipped or motivated to play the lone striker role.

    Ajose might have done a job last night if we went pure 442 at half time (KAG was also running wide) but yes, he doesn't really fit in with KR's way of playing

    I think kr said the contract meant he would only can back if we wanted him rather than bury could send him back.

    I know I’m clutching at straws but KR seemed to suggest he was interested in Best signing.

    Could the delay be because of The Takeover that is/isn’t happening?

    I’m not going back over this thread, so if someone’s already made this potential connection, I’m just reiterating it.

    More likely he wants decent money for a short term contract which we don’t want to cough up because Josh ain’t injured yet. We’ll keep Best hanging around till Jan by dangling a carrot and if Josh gets injured in the meantime we’ll sign him up sharpish. He won’t hang around in Jan because we’ll try and find someone cheaper on a free/loan.

    Under RD we will always go for the cheap option - Academy players are much cheaper than seasoned pros and who gives a toss if they aren't up to it -_-

    Just so stupid not signing Best - even if we let him go in the summer. Who was it that said that " he knows the price of everything but the value of nothing". The cost of signing Best is more than just his salary etc - its what you gain by getting promotion (or not, as the case may be). Anyone who has been at our games this season can see that we are screaming out for something else and/or different from the bench. The fact that A - Dodoo hasn't got on the pitch for weeks, B - KR is now looking at a 18 year old untried & untested youth player shows that we are at the bottom of the barrel.

    This is the best chance we have of getting promotion, If we fail this season I can see if only getting worse........much worse.

    Ben Reeves was out for like two months. He missed preseason but he played at the end of last season. I don't think Best has played in what, a year? The two are not the same.

    Club wanted short term deal to January, Best wanted to summer.

    Both reasonable stances I would say although the delay hasn't helped us.

    Seems defeat yesterday has focused some minds and we should see who got what they wanted in next few days.

    You would think with Best being without a club, that signing until end of Jan, would either give his the chance to earn a longer deal (and pick up some wages) or put himself in the shop window (and pick up some wages).

    Also sounds like Roly said 'i'm not spending any more on wages'.

    Surely Robinson doesn't have to look at the academy to see if there's anyone who could step up. If a name doesn't immediately spring to mind, then it's highly likely no one is ready.

    It is obvious that KR has been told, no more money, so the excuse looking at the academy is a lot of twaddle, he knows already whether he has a suitable player and if that was the case he would already be in the regular 18 man match squad and coming on as a sub instead of KAG and others. He knows as well as us, there is no-one ready, so we have to live with that
