Can't believe how tight it is for the play-off places this season. We've got basically 6 teams (mathematically, Bradford can still do it) still playing for the final 2 play-off spots. Very exciting but I'd rather be in Wigan or Blackburn's shoes right now!

Perhaps you haven't been paying attention. Wigan are already up & Blackburn are almost there too. This is the play-off thread btw. Shrews & Rotherham hcve got 3rd & 4th respectively and so there are just 3 teams vying for 2 places. Pompey & Peterborough can't get enough points & Bradford were out of it weeks ago.

Rizzo did say "mathematically" Bradford can still do it. They have four games left and can get to 70 points.

well a look at the league table says Bradford and Pompey and Peterborough can get enough points although it's unlikely for any of them BUT it's definitely possible.

Maths not a strong suit for you golfie? Or English for that matter? I didn't say that Wigan or Blackburn were involved in the play-offs, I said that I'd rather be in their shoes. I also implicitly stated that Shrewsbury and Rotherham are home and dry as I referred to the final 2 play-off spots. The next 6 teams in the league (excluding Blackpool) can all mathematically make it to the play-offs. Clear?

Blackburn can be promoted Tuesday if games go there way.

We don't know how many points we will need. It could be as low as 0. If Rochdale beat Plymouth tomorrow and Scunthorpe beat them at home they have to get 5 points (possibly with gd) from two games to overtake where we are now.

Obviously other teams would come into play - Pompey could overtake us if they win their last two and Posh could if they win 2 and draw 1 of their last three I think. They do of course have to play each other!

I wouldn't want to rely on zero points but the fact that it probably has a 40% chance of being enough shows we are in a decent position. Pretty sure one more win will do it!

4 points from next 2 will see us get them i think, that was a massive loss for plymouth on the weekend and now there under pressure.

I think I'm right in saying its in our hands now? Win both games and we make the playoffs. They both have a game in hand but its against each other so they can't both pass us.

Blackburn promoted tonight but can still win the league so that game is massive.
  • Scunthorpe's final game makes me feel better

Scunthorpe v Plymouth will decide it

We play better against teams who have to attack us so feel confident about beating Blackburn - We deserved something from Ewood, and we've ended similar runs when Plymouth and Rotherham came to the Valley

All true, I just mentioned the Plymouth v Rotherham scenario on the other thread.

Rotherham do have something to play for though. It’s all about the Playoffs for them now and they will want to maintain form and impetus. Plymouth could easily be a playoff team. Rotherham won’t want to give any rival a psychological advantage. Plymouth at home is a hard place to go but they will be edgy and not in the best of form plus they have players out.

I’d say we have about a 40% chance of making it.

We are still in the box seat and points in the bag so we need a good performance which I’m sure we will get on Saturday. Fortress valley

We kick started their season again.

It's interesting that Bradford have also regained some form again after a shocking run

Saturday yet another massive game. Such a tough game with so much riding on it. I’m hoping that Bowyer’s experience of playing in big games in the Prem will rub off on the players

I’m massively up for it, would be great to get as many people down at the Valley as possible, although I won’t hold it against anyone who is still boycotting, entirely their choice and you have to respect that

Also Jacko’s send off as a player. I look forward to thanking him for his time

We can try and play it down all we like on here, but it’s in our own hands now effectively.

No way are we less that 50% likely to get playoffs

Still feeling fairly confident. Plymouth have hit a mini slump & their next 2 games are against 2 of the top 6. I still maintain that its just 3 of us playing for the last 2 places - yes, Bradford & Pompey can still mathematically make the play-offs, but footballers aren't mathematicians & as Peterborough showed tonight, its better to have the points already on the board like we have.

Also glad Blackburn won - didn't want them running on the pitch like they have just done as Donny tonight. No point over thinking things - it could work our way (their players a bit jaded now that the main job is done) or they may be well up for winning the title - who knows ?

What I do know is that I much rather this end to the season than the last 3 or 4 we've experienced. I rate our chances better than evens - mathematically (as some of you seem to like) is more like 66.6%

Now if he somehow came on in the play off final and got the winner that would be a fairytale

Something else that I’d completely overlooked given that i never thought we would go up under RD, is that of course, it’s 20 years since that game.....
