    Good game management by France.
Why wouldn't you start Aguero ?

    I had a dream

Just spent the last half hour thinking Mbappe has to surely get more game time with Man U next season!

What a game with the right result. Seeing the Aguero goal at the end makes you wonder why he's spent much of the tournament on the bench.

Doesn't get on with the manager.

Mbappe is incredible. Once Messi hangs up his boots I firmly expect him to win multiple ballon d'ors

Messi has been in 4 World Cups and has never scored a goal in the knockout stage.

Dybala I don't think even had a touch in this world cup did he? And Icardi sitting on his arse at home. If I was Argentinan i'd be bloody furious at the management.

But I'm not so fuck em!

I was surprised the scoreline was so close. Argentina are not dynamic enough in the midfield and are too slow as a team. They certainly didn't want to play an athletic team like France. I think Colombia have a similar dynamic. Dangerous players yes, but not so great against strength and pace when there is some ability behind it!

I reckon Messi and Ronaldo will be out on the same day.

Same can be said for Ronaldo in 4 hours

Nobody's going to want to face France after that display. The confidence of the team after they went a goal down was impressive.

I'm pretty sure Argentina don't have a striker outside of Messi to match Aguerro! Madness not to start him! If I was going to face France I would look at how a poor team like Argentina managed to put three past them and nearly got an equaliser at the death!

Icardi joint top scorer in serie A this season. would put him on a similar level.. but since he weren't even picked I take your point!

And aren't they the youngest team in the entire knockout stage? Just imagine what that group will be like in 4 years.

A bit like ours I hope if Southgate keeps the job.

    Indeed.

I am looking at the brackets. My honest feeling is if England can win the first match, they go all the way to the finals.

Lesson one for all coaches at this world cup.
Don't take your star young players off even if there's only minutes to go. That could have been embarrassing for Deschamps if that had gone 4+4 after that last attack from Argentina.

Ramsey made that mistake in 70 with Bobby Charlton when England were 2 nil up.
With Messi and Aquero in the side, that wasn't a great surprise they got 1 and nearly 2 goals in added time.

Likely to be a very different game tonight. You can never dismiss any team with Ronaldo in it but I fancy the stingy Uruguayan defence can keep him relatively quiet and secure a narrow win. 1-0 Uruguay

    Good start

Lovely passage of play between Cavani and Suarez
