Lesson one for all coaches at this world cup. Don't take your star young players off even if there's only minutes to go. That could have been embarrassing for Deschamps if that had gone 4+4 after that last attack from Argentina.
Ramsey made that mistake in 70 with Bobby Charlton when England were 2 nil up. With Messi and Aquero in the side, that wasn't a great surprise they got 1 and nearly 2 goals in added time.
Likely to be a very different game tonight. You can never dismiss any team with Ronaldo in it but I fancy the stingy Uruguayan defence can keep him relatively quiet and secure a narrow win. 1-0 Uruguay
It was kind of sad to watch that Argentine golden generation go out in such a limp, disorganized display at this World Cup. Today they were just outdone by youth, pace, and a team with a halfway decent gameplay. There were little glimpses, including in those last five minutes, of just how good they could have been. But it papered over the cracks.
The team that won the 2007 U20 World Cup and then the 2008 Gold Medal at the Olympics had Messi, Mascherano, Banega, Aguero, Levezzi, Zabaleta, Gago, Biglia, Garay, Romero, Mercado and probably some others that I'm forgetting. Add to that the likes of Tevez, Higuain, now Dybala, etc. They've been to a World Cup final, I think two Copa America finals, and won nothing.
Some of them didn't progress into the players they promised to be (Gago, Banega, Garay), but there was a tremendous amount of talent in that group and they never seemed to figure out how to play cohesive, coherent football at senior level together, despite doing it for a decade.

I said the same before the game - be interesting to see if Uruguay shut up shop a bit now.

You have to wonder if they'd have had a better Tournament had Romero been fit, we certainly wouldnt have seen the error that Caballero made against Croatia
Commentators always seem to wet themselves when Portgual get a free kick, seemingly forgetting that Ronaldo's late goal against Spain was the first free kick he'd scored in about 50 attempts.

Just like to echo what others have been saying about how great this world cup has been. Had gotten bored of football somewhat and struggled to care about the first few games of the tournament but I'm hooked now. Definitely one to remember.
Govin is giving a masterclass in organising a defence here. Constantly looking along the line, moving teammates around and reads the game so well. Quality player...

I am looking at the brackets. My honest feeling is if England can win the first match, they go all the way to the finals.

Lovely passage of play between Cavani and Suarez

...he'll mess up big time now of course.
