  • Twice Suarez have held his head when there was contact with his back.
  • Absolute defensive masterclass there. Portugal aren't helping themselves and are very poor going forward but have to credit the Uruguayan game plan, get an early goal and then sit back and let Portugal piss about with it around the box for 40 minutes.
  • Uruguay are going to be a very tough side to beat. Defence is rock solid, entire team works hard and Suarez and Cavani are a nightmare for opposition defences.
  • 588 minutes in international play without allowing a goal.
  • Cavani is like Teddy Sheringham on steroids!
  • Pepe's a prick but glad they're back in it.
  • Laxalt and them cornrows tho...

Looks like a fat northern bird after she comes back from Mykonos...

It was kind of sad to watch that Argentine golden generation go out in such a limp, disorganized display at this World Cup. Today they were just outdone by youth, pace, and a team with a halfway decent gameplay. There were little glimpses, including in those last five minutes, of just how good they could have been. But it papered over the cracks.

The team that won the 2007 U20 World Cup and then the 2008 Gold Medal at the Olympics had Messi, Mascherano, Banega, Aguero, Levezzi, Zabaleta, Gago, Biglia, Garay, Romero, Mercado and probably some others that I'm forgetting. Add to that the likes of Tevez, Higuain, now Dybala, etc. They've been to a World Cup final, I think two Copa America finals, and won nothing.

Some of them didn't progress into the players they promised to be (Gago, Banega, Garay), but there was a tremendous amount of talent in that group and they never seemed to figure out how to play cohesive, coherent football at senior level together, despite doing it for a decade.

The Argentine FA is incredibly corrupt and make our FA look brilliant.

Their when set up is poor. Messi walked away once because of it.
  • Good strike by Cavani

  • That's a mint goal
  • Some superb goals today
  • Well we had a game on for ten minutes... back to the same as before now can't see Uruguay conceding again unless it's a Ronaldo screamer out of nowhere
  • Still not sure who I want to win this.
  • Great finish but goalie surely gotta be disappointed with that

Uruguay are playing a real team game with their two world class forwards defending for dear life and throwing their bodies in the way
  • Not after the Lord mayor's show at all. Good game between top teams.
  • I have no idea how nobody has been booked yet in this game I've seen at least 3 yellow card challenges.

    Godin alone has made two
  • Its a great day for women in Football

First Katrien scores for Argentina then Amelie Mauresmo gets two tonight

Quite refreshing as it's not a dirty game. Cavani's tackle was a mistimed striker's tackle rather than malicious albeit a booking by today's standards so pleasing to see the ref let the game flow.

Hopefully ref won't be penalised for it.

Collina is the chief Ref so be surprised if he is penalised
  • Ref is losing control of this match.

Its hard to tell with the histrionics sometimes but i'm pretty sure at least 2 players have been absolutely poleaxed. Not sure I agree that's a good thing but maybe the players are just fooling me and not the ref! (they haven't really shown any replays so i'm judging on real time what I've seen - did anyone see the challenge by the Uruguayan that led up to the goalkeeper error chance? Looked incredibly nasty to me)
  • William Carvalho amazing how he always seems to have plenty of time. Saw him play for Sporting this season and he was the same. Can only think it is his sheer size.

I missed the first 2 to be fair
  • Absolutely embarrasing refereeing
  • Poor ref for me - but I don't think it's his fault - think he's been briefed about the over-dramatics from both sides pregame and isn't prepared to give anything.
