I must be missing something. He wouldn't be playing for his new club before the next season, so how does this make any difference?
I think some people (very wrongly presumed) that he could sign for a club on July 1st & then play for them for the rest of this season.......so somebody put a link to the EFL regs.
Bloody obvious I would have thought. And when is next season anyway....? We haven't even re-started this one yet.
Lyle old son, you might be sitting on your arse for a few more months. Not as if you can go out shopping or for meals out. Oh, I forgot.......car showrooms opened up on Monday.
He's refusing to play in 9 games to help keep us up and potentially help the club survive in the process, he can do one
Sadly, our survival (or not) will have more to do with shady meetings played out on Zoom and Skype than football matches played on the pitch. It's quite likely that what happens in front of the judge's bench with be more important than anything happening in front of the subs bench.
If we end up going down it will be remembered rightly or wrongly as ' we went down because Lyle Taylor refused to play '. He has let us and his team mates down. His name will be mud but I'm sure he won't care too much

Hate & Lyle .... Across the river but barely more than a stone's throw from The Valley, for over 130 years Abram Lyle's estimable company has continued to produce its world-famous syrup. "Out of the strong came forth sweetness."
Well, Addick Lyle has barely managed two years before hastening to clear his peg, out of nowhere this tough-guy's strength and physical well-being seem to be an issue and an undue risk for him to contemplate a maximum of nine games in the shirt of shirts - after over three months off - and his devoted fans are left to choke as the sweetest of names has become for evermore tainted and sour. On top of everything else just now, why the devil this as well? Really, Lyle?
When parting did not go well .... Pitcher, Mills, Parker, Murphy and who'd a thunk it LT9.
No way would say Brentford have told him not to play for the rest of the season, especially as we are due to play them. That would be considered a massive breach of the rules.
Football operates separately from normal life, it's not like a normal job where in your last few weeks you hand over your responsibilities, tidy your desk and go for long lunch breaks, as the last game in your contract is potentially just as important as your 1st or 34th. Clubs aren't stupid, if we were relegated with 2 games to go, I'm sure Bowyer would be happy to leave Taylor out.
The integrity of the league season relies on it, and it's this structure which generates massive public interest and makes lots of players very rich. If the FA AND PFA had any sense of morals, they would instruct its members to play the full season, and for clubs to extend all contracts until the season is ended. These are extraordinary times, and everyone has to show solidarity to the wider game.
They would have indicated a preference for him not getting injured with a clear implication that he shouldn't play for us. Informal and off the record. Taylor will know where he is going and how much he is going to be getting. He is not going to say anything that will undermine his new club.
But this goes on in football all the time. Clubs are always telling young players they can't play for their schools or clubs anymore. It is the culture of clubs and ridiculous to think is these strange times with the season extended into the summer that this isn't what is happening here.
Players are free to negotiate a move 6 months before their contract is up so, if what you're saying is correct, why ain't there more cases like this of players refusing to play the last few games for their "old" Club? I don't think this is the case at all, and even if it is, it still don't change the fact that Taylor is a w****r for doing it imo
The reason is that it would be obvious in normal circumstances what is going on. Also, should the player get an injury, there is a significant period before the new season commences. There are unknowns here and excuses that can be applied because of the virus and clubs are happy to stitch each other up. There is no honour in football, it is a dog eat dog business sadly.
I understand a few things in relation to Taylor.
a) He was great for us whilst he was with us and gave everything b) He is not loyal to us or anybody else and we are not his club. That suits us when he is leaving Wimbledon on a free and not when he leaves us. c) He does have mitigation that he has been messed about and used a bit as a pawn in our ongoing saga. d) He does have mitigation that it is normal for players to put themselves first and at the stage of his career he has at, maybe an even bigger factor. e) Is he being disloyal. Yes, I think he is, but I suspect he thinks he has given us more than most and may disagree. He is a player, there are very few of them that really put the club high on their list of priorities. It is one of the reasons I dislike players kissing the badge. Mind you, I have never seen Taylor do that.
Ultimately, we are in credit with him and his legacy will be a decent player for us rather than a legend. I'll clap him if and when he returns but I do think he is disloyal. It is just he can join a club with a massive membership in that regards. It stains football as we have passion and loyalty for our club and hardly anybody else in the game does. But I won't single out Taylor in relation to that.
Lyle Taylor was happy to still pick up his wages while this pandemic has been going on.He didn't say anything then. Fans detest players like this taking their club for a easy living and giving nothing back.
And for the months he was injured as a result of playing for another team. Paid and looked after.
Doesn’t the international team pick up the tab for wages if a player is injured whilst on international duty?
No. If a national team is in the final stages of an international tournament they have an obligation to compensate the club. Otherwise the doctors attached to the national team have an obligation to submit the results of their own examinations to assist the club in treating the injury but they don't have to pay any compensation to the club. So if a player decides to play for a minor national side (no disrespect) like Montserrat there is almost no chance they will get past the initial stages of any tournament they are in, so no risk of having to pay compensation.
I also think we need to put "International Team" into perspective
"On June 30, 2002, the day of the 2002 World Cup Final, Montserrat, then the lowest ranked team in the world, played against the second lowest team, Bhutan, in a friendly match known jokingly as "The Other Final", but lost 4–0.
I agree with Ally Mc Coist if a player agrees and signs a contract he should see out that contract. It is as simple as that. I can't believe some of the posters who are sticking up for Taylor.
I totally agree Dick. only someone who is thick or lacking in integrity would think Taylor’s actions were fair and decent. but Taylor despite some of his amusing remarks over the time he has been at Charlton is not that street wise or smart 😂
its not necessarily the salary, he will get a 500/750k signing on fee - i get why he is doing it, its completely wrong but it makes sense but its a risk for him efl ruling states he cannot play for the new club until the new season starts - worst case 3 weeks from now we get a huge surge in cases and lockdown starts again - he is looking at a few months without wages, plus no dates even set for the new season.
apologies to digress but i cant keep up what players are out of contract come end of june, will we offer them all extensions until end of season ( end of July ) and hope they sign, i suppose if they don't they will have no wages for the foreseeable.

He done one season in a poor league one and bang in many. Play off games he was ok, scored one and set up one but not super Clive.
This season got a few early doors then been injured and COVID and then fucked off. Once the dust has settled he will be forgotten and certainly won’t be on the list of Addicks legends wheeled out onto the pitch in years to come.
So so many players in the last 20 years let’s say will be held in higher esteem.
He even ruined my sons all key players (except Bauer, need to get to Preston) signed shirt by signing it upside down. Proper arrogant doing that!

£500/ £750 k signing on fee ?? Not from a possible free transfer ?
