its not necessarily the salary, he will get a 500/750k signing on fee - i get why he is doing it, its completely wrong but it makes sense but its a risk for him efl ruling states he cannot play for the new club until the new season starts - worst case 3 weeks from now we get a huge surge in cases and lockdown starts again - he is looking at a few months without wages, plus no dates even set for the new season.

apologies to digress but i cant keep up what players are out of contract come end of june, will we offer them all extensions until end of season ( end of July ) and hope they sign, i suppose if they don't they will have no wages for the foreseeable.

     £500/ £750 k signing on fee ??
Not from a possible free transfer  ?
Yes it's fairly common that free transfer signings who are wanted by a few clubs are given an extra signing on fee to entice them to join.

If Taylor still had 2 years left on his contract he'd probably cost 4-5m, so a club paying him 750k instead of a 4m transfer fee is nothing.

Out of interest all you proper Charlton Fans with integrity, what do you think the hard done by Lyle Taylor gets paid every week at the Valley ??

I would say in the region of 7K.
    Yes I would agree £6000 to £7000 👍👍👍
and he going to get £25K really?
Yet still people do not accept why Taylor has taken the stance he has.

I think everyone accepts what he’s doing is completely wrong (of course if he just didn’t say a word and played the 2-3 games till the end of June and then downed tools everyone would be fuming just as much no doubt )
not everyone accepts why he’s doing it in these unprecedented times
did he down tools at Wimbledon with the big move to Charlton ?
The lack of respect from Taylor to the fans as well as colleagues is a disgrace  but him looking after number one doesn’t surprise me but let’s all turn a blind eye to Solly

    Agreed on the final paragraph.

Solly is a 2/3rd choice player
    Taylor is our best player

very very different in terms of importance to the team however I expected better from Chris he might not of even got a game but to come out and say I’m not playing is a joke.
  • Lyle Taylor interview coming up at 7am on Sky Sports news..

This is going over old ground. We all understand and accept why he is doing what he is doing. But the vast majority vehemently disagree with his action.

All I can do is point out again the two most recent examples at Charlton. Both Bauer and Aribo were letting their contracts run down last season. They were both aiming to move on and get much better contracts elsewhere once their contracts expired. They did not down tools for the last few games of the season and funny enough both were involved in the winner at Wembley.

No one is denying Taylor his big payday. Yes, I guess there is a slim chance he might get a career threatening injury but that risk is always there.

Bauer and Aribo will be respected for the way they handled themselves. Taylor won’t. For me it comes down to integrity and values.
  • Just watched the sky interview with Taylor - pre recorded so no questions could be asked - explained how it’s not been an easy decision to make and “ they make call me whatever, a let down, money grabbing etc but in time I hope they can forgive or maybe that’s too strong, understand why I’ve done this”

he explains how he never thought he would get the opportunity to play at the highest level ( good indicator he’s prem bound ).

i genuinely wish him luck but think it’s a shocking state of affairs, if he had been playing week in week out all season then maybe I could cut him some slack, but he was injured for a long time then covid, the injury took place whilst playing for his country ( which is a choice he is 30 and has 6 caps for them?? ) maybe other clubs he played for wouldn’t of enabled him to afford to play etc.

In his interview he says about being fit in 6-8 weeks, the chances of next season starting before October are slim.

anyway I think he’s made his bed now lie in it, hope it works out but wouldn’t be surprised if you don’t hear much about him again.
  • If he's just saying he's worried about a career threatening injury...then that's bs. No player would ever be on the pitch.

I thought football was about enjoyment. It would also be a good way to warm up and get match fit.

I assumed it's because he might not pass the medical at his new club.

    Contract runs out...then he's f****d.

  • I get where he coming from regarding money, but to be scared of a career threatening injury is BS for not playing, he's let everyone down and I doubt his new teammates will think that highly of him
  • Yes not even Lyle Taylor is buying that.
I get his reasons but it’s shitty. You’re never going to convince anyone otherwise.

  • It’s all about money. He refused to extend his contract with us and previously with Wimbledon so he can negotiate the best deal for him elsewhere. That tactic carries the risk of getting injured and being between contracts.

    His choice.

He is not a fan and will be consigned to history as someone who once played for us.
  • Felt sad reading and seeing it. Half of me respects the honesty and the other half has to think selfishly from our potential relegation without 'main man.' It will be hard to follow his career with much pleasure from here.
  • The thing is you could get injured at any point in the season. If coronavirus hadn’t have happened he could have got injured in our last game with an anterior cruciate ligament injury and be out for a year!

Plus will any perspective new employers be looking at him and think “his attitude stinks, what if he does the same to us?”.

I feel let down by him, I know Bowyer does from his interview yesterday, and I bet most of his teammates do too.

  • All the smiling before games, holding kids and clapping each and every fan just feels like something.......Matt Southall would do!
  • I really think that i f we go down, this decision will haunt him for the rest of his  career.
  • He doesn’t get it does he? It’s not about not extending his contract by a month to see out the season, it’s about honouring the contract you have already signed until 30th June.
This. The media seemed to have neglected that aspect as well when reporting it, frustratingly
  • Pointless interview - just PR spin. Says a lot of empty words.

I hope he enjoys the money.

As if he wouldn’t get shit for stopping on the 30th June if he did , there wouldn’t be any of this oh he’s seen out his contract bollox FairPlay he goes with our blessing , it’d rightfully be you fucker you’ve left us in the lurch with 6 games left
