  • Morgan did enough last night last night in the 20 minutes he had. Needs to start.
    🤦‍♂️
  • No point bringing in players who are not good enough.

We need to sign Kyle Dempsey or Tom Lowery who can improve our midfield & out the ones who aren’t up to it.

Two very realistic options that would allow us start building a team good enough for promotion next season.

completely of the subject but from your user name you must (if you saw) been pleased with Eddie Youds contribution to Charlton Live. Thought he was excellent personally.
  • Albie Morgan day comes earlier and earlier every year.  Far too commercialised now, but the kids still enjoy it.

I suppose if enough people throw enough hail Mary's one will stick one day.

  • He will come good...
  • ...probably not for us though...

No he didn't. No he does not.

I agree with this, but until then it's pointless using shattered players for 20-30mins every game until we can get in suitable replacements
  • I think Albie's best position is actually as a right or left midfielder in a flat, narrow 4-4-2 like Curbs used to play. We sometimes even stuck Claus out on the right of midfield in the Premier League days when we wanted to be compact but make sure we still had some passing quality in there. Albie is a great passer at times and can get around the pitch but too often his positioning and reading of the game is too erratic to actually play in central midfield. He gets lost in the middle. He'd fit nicely in a midfield that had two industrious centre mids  and a proper winger on the left, with him providing a bit of width to the midfield two and tucking in when the team needs to defend. The added bonus there is while he'd offer extra protection defensively, he wouldn't be quite as essential to the defensive effort. Claus only won one tackle in his life and he scored from it, but he still helped our shape. Bowyer realised this about Albie after lockdown and played him on the left with McGeady right in a flatter 4, but it dipped a bit because McGeady was rubbish and we were lacking up front. Then we returned to the diamond where Albie got lost again. The problem Albie has is that no-one plays that way anymore so I don't see him having a place with us unfortunately
You can't change your formation to a clearly outdated and limited model in order to accommodate a player who manifestly isn't good enough, unfortunately
  • Something needs a tweak though, doesn't it? Lee looks like he needs a rest, I'd be tempted to try Morgan next to Dobson, push Gilbey a bit further up.

Bring Lee on for Morgan around 60/70 mins and swap with Gibley.

Would prefer to get Ablie a move and have someone else in though,

Think this is part of the problem. A player is questionable game after game, gets dropped and brought back, has a decent 20 minutes and all of a sudden the team should be restructured to accommodate them again.

Can understand promoting some competition for places, but keep bringing back the same players who don't deliver is surely part of the problem, isn't it
But retaining players in the team who aren't delivering either is ok also?

Yes Morgan should be playing more, if nothing else to keep Lee and Gilbey fresh and on their toes. We've lost 4 out of our last 6 league matches, which hardly suggests that the regular players and system are untouchable.

  • I've always preferred vennings over Morgan. Shame that neither look like being long term first team players
  • Aaron Henry was very good in the Papa Johns tie. I think he has overtaken Albie.

I thought Henry was very poor and didn't want the ball.
He kept telling the man in possession to pass to someone else.

Agree on Vennings and it will be interesting to see how he has developed out on loan. I also think that physically he needs to time to fill out a bit to enhance his strength. I think he is a very good player.

No chance. It’s not that difficult to have a one off good performance in the Papa John’s games. Let’s not forget he was very poor against Leyton Orient.

I like Aaron but he’s still way too raw, which is why he hasn’t got anywhere near the league squad.

Morgan played well today in a poor team.
    🥱🥱🥱🙄
  • If that is a 'good performance' I would love to see what a bad one is.

Showed some effort but is a League Two footballer.

Is he good enough to be in our squad? No. Ship him off on loan this month and get in a midfielder that can actually create.

One of our stronger performers today but we need better if we're serious about progressing.
  • I thought he was alright today to be honest. Problem is our midfield is probably our weakest area on the pitch, and due to the way we are set up, coached, or the players inability to move, there’s never much they can do when the get the ball.

So we end up playing the old, pass it out wide, get caught on the byline, pass it back and across the line, rinse and repeat on the other side of the pitch, then either lose the ball or kick it long.

    It’s awful football.

Says a lot about the team doesn't it
  • Did well today

Showed Gilbey and Lee up today based on their recent performance - Albie still needs to show a lot of consistency. But still feel that both Alex and Elliot get away with murder compared with Albie, simply because the latter cant be given any special treatment because he came through the Academy.

Dont get me wrong, there were moments from Morgan which werent good enough (that moment at CDM where he almost let them through on half way, was horrendous) - But still feel his display today was better than anything we've seen from half our midfield (this calendar year).

We can talk about finding a Midfielder that'll create chances, but to do that, we also need other players to actually try and move, and pull the opposition around - Too often our forward players give us a decent rendition of musical statutes.

Ball gets brought forward, we look for an option - Everyone hides so ball goes backwards
    Praising mediocrity.

'Moments from Morgan which weren't good enough' - I.e. The first 3 months of the season and several moments during this game.

That is not exclusive to Morgan. It applies to nearly every player at some stage but Albie is scapegoat for the season.
I have literally said bin them all and start again.

Morgan seems to get certain people backing him no matter what because he's an academy player.

Lee, Dobson, Gilbey and others at least you can point to games where they were match winners and showed ability. Morgan doesn't.

Perhaps focus on the players who couldnt be bothered today?

As I've said, once again, the focus turns to Albie Morgan rather than anyone else in the team who wasnt good enough today - Its almost as though he's an Academy player, he cant receive ANY positive comments after a performance.
Have a look at the post-match comments, how many posts are exclusively about Morgan?

Yet again claiming an agenda when there is none. He's a bad player in a sea of bad players.
