In the past I think it was allowed if you were 21 or under when the qualification for a tournament started, you could continue to play in that age group for the rest of the qualification process.1

Good to see the better thread being used0

Players born on or after 1 January 1996 are eligible for the next UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship.
Cullen Born 7/4/19962 -
Really, how is this even a topic. For years 23/22 year olds have been playing u21, its not like its a new thing. He is eligible so we lose him to international, sods law end off1

"This team is for players aged under 21 at the start of the calendar year in which a two-year European Under-21 Football Championship campaign begins, so some players can remain with the squad until the age of 23."0

That’s nothing...... Johnny Robinson used to lose his head regularly but would always carry on regardless.paulie8290 said:Remember that game against Shresbury in The FA Cup when he lost a tooth and carried on playing

If it's under-21, you shouldn't be eligible when you turn 21.paulie8290 said:
Exactly 22 in April 4 months ago, under 21 should be for under 21 only, when you turn 22 you shouldnt be eligible, if he plays for them for there next international break he will be closer to 23, even now he is closer to his 23rd birthday than his 21stSage said:
He is Ireland’s U21 captain, he was always going to be called up. Players over the age of 21 play for their countries all the time. He was only 22 in April.paulie8290 said:So we have lost him for the next 2 games because a 22 year old has been called up to the under 21 team, that makes sense
It is frustrating to lose him to international duty but it is something that the club and Bowyer would’ve known about when signing him.1 -
Too late.Weegie Addick said:So we lose him and Jamie Ward - need another to get our matches off, don't we?

Players at 23 are eligible to play for the U21s because they'd have been 21 when Qualification started for the latest Euro U21 Tournament1

I understand that Krystian Bielik and Kyle Taylor turned down friendly invitations from Poland U21 and Montserrat .Weegie Addick said:So we lose him and Jamie Ward - need another to get our matches off, don't we?
For formal games they will need to be released for them . Both Cullen and Ward had accepted their call ups before we signed them .2 -

Glad the other 2 rejected their chances.0 -
Bielik and Poland would be fair enough but would be ideal for Taylor to continue turning down Monster Rat
Dont really want to lose him not just for the International Break yet also the following game as he returns from America and deals with jet lag like Marshall did last season when he had to return to Jamaica for family reasons0 -
Another great 3 points for us today which keeps the momentum going! Thanks to our travelling fans for the support again, enjoy your weekend 👍🏻⚽️ #CAFC Also thanks to the @officialbantams fans for the warm reception and I wish you the best going forward!0 -
His pass for the first goal is exactly what we've been missing since Clarke went out injured
Cant wait to see him at the Valley next week as has been frustrating that he's only played in two away games so far9 -

To me he slightly reminds me of the likes of Dale Stevens and Diego Poyet (or a Michael Carrick) as he's not box to box, but is far too good technically to just be a defensive shield type of midfielder0
-
I would have said he's more of a cross between :Parker and Kinsella in terms of stature, tenacity and range of passing. He is a Manager's dream with the versatility and ability to play in the centre of a midfield two or at the base or tip of a diamond.killerandflash said:To me he slightly reminds me of the likes of Dale Stevens and Diego Poyet (or a Michael Carrick) as he's not box to box, but is far too good technically to just be a defensive shield type of midfielder

Parker and Kinsella were both pretty athletic, Parker used to make some great attacking runs with the ball when with us, it's only later in his career when he seemed to get "stuck" with more of a defensive roleRedChaser said:

Really like the way Cullen plays. Brings a calmness to the midfield which we have been lacking in the past.

New owners if you exist: signing this boy is a priority.5
-
Problem now is that Premier clubs seem to want £5m plus for their reserves.0
-
Hopefully promotion to the Championship would see us signing Cullen and Bielik on loan again at the very least
Neither should be playing League One football next season as part of their development, if their parent clubs dont think they're ready for Premier League football then they should be loaned to a Championship side; where better than to a team that'll guarantee them game time and has already helped them progress this season15 -
Wise not to build up our hopes.
Word is that Pellegrini wants Josh back next season1
