Between Innings - Kent lead Somerset by 29 runs

  • that is absolutely appalling. where do kent go from here? rather we went down to division 2, half of these players are nowhere near good enough for this division
  • Tough conditions certainly, and Somerset have a quality seam attack but unless the pitch is a complete minefield (which might lead to pitch fines) a pathetic batting effort
  • Only 3 of the Somerset batsmen in their innings managed to reach double figures. These are not easy conditions and both sides have the bowlers to exploit that. But no match should have 30 wickets falling for 367 runs.

Perhaps this is another example of why we struggle to produce Test batsmen. The ball has an unfair advantage.
  • Podmore goes for 13 in Somerset's first over
  • Absolutely criminal ...

All over, lost by 10 wickets.

It's worth reminding ourselves that two full days were lost to the rain so we've managed to lose this inside a day and a half's actual play.
  • It's all over now baby blue.

    Pathetic effort.

  • 67.1 overs for two completed innings.
  • Carnage!!!!!
  • What does, hopefully, bode well for the future is that, of our batting line up in the CC this season, the two best batsmen have been our youngest players - Robinson (36.91) and Crawley (34.92). Hopefully Robinson will sign a new contract.

Dickson's average this season (28.75) isn't great and is skewed by that one game at Beckenham in which he got 219 runs - his average for the other matches is just 12.60

The rest - Kuhn (24.09), DBD (25.82), Denly (9.00) and Blake (15.12) - just haven't performed. Denly is having to find form for us having been at the IPL (batted once and that a duck) and with England carrying the drinks and Blake (lifetime average of 23.28) has never been a 4 day batsman.
  • Never mind being a 4-day batsman, better than 6 minutes was needed today.
  • wow Dickson's average is 12.60 without the beckenham scores!??!!! Absolutely pathetic, just goes to show how good a pitch that is !

anyone know if we are hopeful of Robinson signing a contract?

there really isn't any batters we can bring in to shake it up, the lack of options is horrifying
  • Surely any number of the run-plunderers we gawp at on the club cricket thread could have a go? ;)

Canterbury doesn't seem to be a nice place to bat, it would be interesting to see the batting stats there (in all forms) and at our other grounds. Beckenham seems a flatter pitch, while Tunbridge Wells normally plays ok.

Strange one with regards to Robinson - he was given a 12 month contract whereas Jordan Cox was handed a 3 year deal. With Billings coming back next season (and unlikely to be involved so much with England) it is difficult to see us having the 4 keepers including Rouse. Although Robinson holds down a batting spot even when Billings returns on current form.

Other counties will be interested in Robinson and it would be a real shame if we lose him in the same way  we did Ryan Davies. Although the latter's career has been unfortunately subsequently derailed by personal issues.

These days it seems that an awful lot of players are able to keep wicket, England and Surrey have regular fielded sides full of keepers! It wouldn't be a problem if either Sam or Ollie play as a specialist batsman next season, after all Sam has never (or hardly ever) kept wicket when playing for England.
  • Bell- Drummond and Kuhn both need to take a look at themselves although D B-D did try to bat it out last time in fairness.

That said neither are producing or have produced enough for so called front line batsmen.

It pains me to say it but so far it looks a season too far for Stevo.

Agreed, it's the win over fellow strugglers Warks at the beginning of the season which has given us a little bit of breathing space. This is a must win game for both sides really
  • here we go then, Dickson out for 4 and  now Denly out for 8.

    31- 2

  • The wheels on the bus keep falling off, falling off, falling off
The wheels on the bus keep falling off, all innings long.

    74-3, DBD out for 9
