Flying out from Lux tonight to get to Edgbaston for tomorrow-hoping for first wicket to be Smith. Maybe another option is to try to starve him on leg side and just pack the off side.?

Thanks Lincs, then after game, straight back to Lux to be at my desk by 9am Monday - has to be done when Ashes cricket is involved.
Bairstow is the one who is (should be) most at risk.
He insists on batting 7 and keeping. Frankly his record is nowhere near good enough to be demanding a specific role. Particularly in the last 2 years. If he is not willing to play as a specialist batsman or move up the order if its for the good of the team then he should in no way be guaranteed his spot. If he insists on that role then we have to really consider whether he is the best man for it. I genuinely think he isn't, Foakes as a specialist no 7 and keeper is in my view a better option. In current form even more so.
I say should be most at risk because he is part of the in crowd and best mates with the captain so no chance of getting dropped. Being Yorkshire helps with that too.
@cantersaddick Should Bairstow stay in the team if the captain wants him?
he's Root's personal mate and a fellow Yorkie .. so long as Bairstow can stagger and fumble about, he'll be in the team, so long of course, as Root is skipper

The question I am really posing is, shouldn't the captain get to choose his own preference as wicket keeper?

Now keep chipping away at the rest of em
In next Test, of course, before some tw+t comes on and points it out.
Oz can bowl 6 bouncers an over to Broad, so why not Archer...in the next Test.
Seriously, we need to work him out. Joffra might bounce him about a bit.
I'm just hoping that it has the right ending.

Don't wanna back leuth up too much but.
