The Leeds goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, has let all of the last 11 shots he has faced on target in. This was also the first time in Leeds' history that they have conceded at least 5 goals in successive home games.
On Saturday January 2nd 1932 a new record was set for the most goals scored in the Football League on a single day. In all 209 goals were scored in 43 matches - 56 in the First Division (11 matches), 53 in Division 2 (11 matches), 43 in Division 3 North (10 matches) and 57 in Division 3 North (11 matches).
Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of a 5 goal thriller at Forest.
The Boxing Day one you'd have to suspect half of them were still full of beer, turkey and roast potatoes etc.
Unfortunately, the game has "evolved" over the years to one which was all about finding ways to score to one that is all about preventing the opposition from scoring. Defend from the front, eleven behind the ball, track your man, use the "professional" foul where necessary, feign injury, time waste etc etc. That is why dead ball opportunities are far more important nowadays and why the average number of total goals per game is about 2.7 and why so few games feature teams scoring three goals. In fact, the PL weekend of the 21st January featured just 18 goals in total from the 10 matches.

Amazing how many of these clubs are no longer in the top four divisions 😔
One I've just read, which sounds impossible to be true
Southampton are the first team to be bottom of the Premier League table, and score three goals in a game against the League Leaders
At face value it doesn't seem feasible but I suppose if one considers how good the defences of those Arsenal, Man United, Man City and Liverpool sides were then it wasn't very often that they actually conceded three goals in a game let alone to a side that probably didn't score three times in a game more than on the odd occasion. Appreciate that early season you might find a side at the bottom that ultimately ends up there but, in most seasons, that bottom team is woeful and do not get anywhere near averaging a goal a game.

Amazing how many of these clubs are no longer in the top four divisions 😔
Rochdale's relegation makes them the 17th of the 20 clubs which joined the Football League in 1921 to leave the league at least once since then, whether by being relegated, voted out or ejected for going bust. The only exceptions are Walsall, Crewe and Charlton.
Ipswich have scored 113 goals from 54 games in all competitions this season. Only Man City have scored more.
Ipswich's goal difference of 60 is exactly double that of Orient, the League 2 Champions. Ipswich may still finish second in League 1 despite, potentially, achieving 100 points.
